  1. Gus, not good news and hang in there, as covid will pass. For the both of you being front line in our battle against the disease, Thank You. 🏆
  2. Ernie Nice progress but I'm still on the opposite side of the fence about the kit as you. I didn't think part fit was all that great and never needed clamps on any Tamiya kit I've built. Gun fairings were as bad on mine. Nose fit issues were mine alone and needed a lot od work to fix. I know paint and color has always been a hot topic on the AVG's P-40 and isn't as clear cut as it seems. I did a lot of research when I built mine and none of the actual RAF Day Colors were available to Curtiss and they contracted with DuPont for the paint - the colors are different. I'm sure it doesn't make that much of a difference as the paint faded and was worn over time. Maybe my research can help a bit in the actual model paint selection.
  3. So strange that Tamiya isn't planning on any new aircraft releases in 48th scale and of course none in 32nd scale this year. I'm hoping it's one of the years where they are just holding back the actual announcement. 🤞
  4. Bill, Silly Putty - guess it's used for masking cammo.😉
  5. Ernie is so right - what in the world were we waiting for? Someone should have woken up and shot it down the second it crossed into our air space. Gee, Russia and China had no issues on shooting down a U2 and trying to do the same to the SR71. All this shows is how slow we are to react and who knows how much data and information was collected and sent back to China.
  6. Chris Masking looks mighty good and of course a ton of work. Good decision to keep the windows clean as a seaplane, I would think dust wouldn't have much chance to accumulate when the Cat was tied down. Of course, I'm still so envious, as there isn't a set of masks for the Kingfisher and they are lightyears ahead of doing all the glass by hand - especially. shaky old hands.
  7. Chris Has to be stress cracks from how I pushed the two fuselage halves over the wings. I'm trying to figure out a way to eliminate the cause of the stress but it's almost impossible as it has to be inside the fuselage. I'm literally chipping away at it and hopefully with some luck have the stress crack contained. It's been a good twenty hours and the crack hasn't spread any further in either direction. Tomorrow will tell the story.
  8. Thanks John Tomorrow will tell the whole story🤞
  9. Dennis and John There really isn't any gap just a crack that keeps spreading. I've glued the crack thoroughly twice now and after the glue has dried, the crack has continued to spread. I've also drilled stop holes at the beginning and the end of the crack. I'm hoping my last 'fix' works as I've been trying to determine where the actual point of where the stress is. If it's inside the fuselage, I have no way of cutting into it. I'm hoping the area I cut last night works. See how it goes.
  10. Thanks Carl I thought so and for military modelers, that's pretty meek.
  11. Rob Looking fantastic and the PE work is astonishing to say the least. Always seems to be something with complicated builds, but my money is riding on you to come up with a perfect workaround.
  12. John That's my next step. I'm guessing that pushing the wing trough the wing opening in the fuselage, it just didn't fit right and it's what is causing the stress cracks, but I have no way to open up the wing slot more then I did late last night. See how it goes.
  13. Let's shoot the damn thing down and be done with it.🎯
  14. Ernie, my Friend My deepest sympathies on the loss of your best friend, Flash. May he rest in peace as he flies west in blue skies. The memories and good times you shared will always be fresh and always with you.
  15. With the Toy Fair now under way, except for RC cars and trucks and more cars and trucks, I can't find any show reports at all. Has anyone found some accurate news on new releases? 🤞
  16. Dennis Perfect and we should all think about doing the same with other kits and manufactures. While the Kingfisher stress cracks are being repaired and drying, I started doing the prep work on my next build: The Revell Spitfire Mk IIa. I accumulated a good deal of Barracuda resin detail sets, the Quinta cockpit set and Eagle Cal decals. Been cleaning up mold lines and now I'm at the opposite end of the plastic scale: Monogram Kingfisher plastic: brittle and hard as a rock while the Revell's Spit plastic is almost butter soft. 😉
  17. UPDATE: BAD TO WORSE Checked the repair and it didn't go well at all. After four or five hours last night, I checked the Kingfisher and the crack had spread way past the repair (nearly tripled in length) and also started working its way forward, under the trailing edge of the wing 🙁. I had no idea what to do but needed to take drastic steps. 1. I removed all the Tamiya White Putty from the underside of flap to relieve any pressure that I could from the brittle plastic. 2. I drilled a new stop hole at the rear end of the flap in the fuselage and will not fill it, hoping it acts to remove the actual stress I had to created when pushing (forcing) the wings into place - what I should have done, is widen the opening in the fuselage for the wing to pass through; same on me. 3. I drilled a new stop hole at the end of the crack line and am not going to fill it, since filling it with CA, alleviates the purpose of the stop hole - of course, I'm just guessing. 4. I completely sanded off all the paint over and around both cracks, filed the crack lines/areas smooth, using liberal amounts of Extra Thin to melts the plastic together in the cracks and now am letting everything dry for a good 24 - 48 hours (that's where I am now). Fingers crossed and hopefully this will work as I'm running out of ideas and options.
  18. Thanks Martin A must build for me and as with all Revell kits, needs a bit of TLC and lots of AM .
  19. Carl Glad to see you back working on the Vosper. The PE details look fantastic and some mighty fine work on the PE torpedo cradles; you absolutely have the touch.
  20. Dennis Looking mighty good -= just keep going and I'm sure you are planning number five.
  21. Chris I feel your pain with all the masking that the Big Cat needs, as the Kingfisher was the nearly the same but with a five-section greenhouse, tiny panels and nearly no relief on the framing to help ease the struggle. Not sure about the water spray effect the windshield wiper arcs will convey - as I have no idea how to create it. Tail section looks good blended in and thank goodness is 'done and finished.
  22. Chris Looking mighty good up on her Nikes! Just love the "B" version and the decals, look just fine to me. Not following the instruction sequence - par for the course for me.
  23. Gaz Sure looks good to me. And of course; when in a foiling mood - foil🎯
