  1. MIke Brilliant build - the added details and the unusual cammo scheme add to a spectacular build 🏆 Absolutely do a complete build thread for your upcoming 239 Buffalo - will be looking forward to following every step of the way. .
  2. Rob Nothing more persona; and intense then a true passion for a hobby and while I didn't understand most of the technical names and descriptions, comparing them to a Nikon F2 or a Leica, turned on the light bulb for me. I've owned three Nikon F3HP's and finally have a F2 on its way, so I can appreciate your passion for listen to music on such sophisticated stereo (if this is the right word) equipment. At some point the nuts for the base had to go one once you decided against the water base. .
  3. Sasha Some mighty fine and realistic weathering on the radar assembly - looks spot on the money
  4. Thanks Kev, nothing like a beautiful gal😉
  5. Thanks John One pic is worth a thousand words - some mighty fine work
  6. John Nice work adapting Tamiya folding wing mechanism to the Trumpeter Corsair. Any pics how you did it?
  7. Thanks Mike Much appreciated both for the Kingfisher's progress and the upcoming surgery.
  8. Thanks Rob and I was lucky the repairs finally worked. Just love those between the war year paint schemes - they just jump right out of the display case. Getting a be apprehensive about tomorrows surgery and hopefully, the discomfort will ease up in a few days after the procedure. Just a long time coming.
  9. Ernie Sounds good and I knew there were solid reasons behind the methods of your madness 😉Just so different in how we each approached the build and how we like to display our models in the end.
  10. Hope you still have the base, as it can be rescued. Scrape off as much of the ground cover as you can. Then glue on finely sifted sawdust - an old model railroading ground cover technique. Once dry, air brush or paint to what you envisioned and then add the details.
  11. Martin Looking mighty good and a shame, a subject we don't often see builds of.
  12. Just not my kind of subject - everyone has their own like, wants and I'll pass list.
  13. Ernie Been following along - step by step and day by day. I am pretty amazed at how you resolved a lot of the issues I needed to tackle but in quite a different way. GWH did a terrible job on the elongated PE parts by the leading edge - fit is really poor. Can't understand why just not mold them in plastic. I filled mine in with Evergreen strip - not perfect but looked a lot better. Also, nice going on some fancy seam and filling work on the wing fillet - bad choice again by GWH where they chose to make the joint seam - just made for a lot more work. I'm sure it had to do with mold limitations but there surely could have been a better way. Color wise, you made some nice choices based your final mixes being aimed at a weathered, operational look. When I was doing my paint research, I did find the references on Britmodeler, which were thoroughly thought out and look good. Since My P-40 wasn't going to be weathered, I kept going and eventually found the documented research I used. It's all in the look you want to model to convey.
  14. Chris Carl surely has the gift of working with PE as Rob does. Just way too difficult for me at this stage of the game.
  15. Gaz I have a few Airfix kits in the stash I'm waiting to build: 1/48 Sea Fury with all the Barracuda resin sets 1/48 Hurricane - started but now on hold with the Revell 1/32 due here on our side of the pond any year
  16. Thanks Chris very much appreciated your comments on the Kingfisher- just as painting and decaling are my favorites part of any build and good wishes on my oral surgery scheduled for tomorrow. I have to admit I'm a bit nervous as the procedure is scheduled to last for between an hour and an hour and a half plus recovery. I would absolutely prefer to take a short break your way to boost up the juices and mojo. While I have been going extra slow on the Kingfisher, letting each stage thoroughly dry before moving to the next one, I started tinkering with my next build: the Revell 1/32 Spitfire MkIIa. Originally, I was going to use a good number of Barracuda resin to bring the detail level up but only used their joystick, seat armor plate and gun sight so far with the balance being from the Quinta detail set. I'm planning on using the Barracuda resin set for the exterior corrections, using Edgar's correction notes (the link posted in in John's build). Maybe early next week I'll feel up to starting a build thread, as a lot of the work in the front office is now done.
  17. Telpatu My latest research agrees with your explanation. I've since did a bit of research and originally the glossy orange yellow upper wings (started in the biplane era) were to help locate downed and lost aircraft on the ground. The painting of the wings continued on monoplanes as well until the start of WWII.
  18. Thanks Martin Going to the bank or PO for an international money order as they do not accept PP or CC's.
  19. Trumpeters' Devastator is still MIA after another year of being promised she will be coming. Why can't Trumpeter just remove it from their catalog and be done with it? BTW, is it in the 2023 catalog? 💣
  20. Gaz Nice work and some mighty fine detailing on the torpedoes - what a difference!
  21. Ernie The 'mishmash' brown does look good - nice and faded. Lots of work getting the color you're happy with.
  22. Kev Nice progress and the added details brings her up to a whole new level add
  23. Thanks Martin A nice pic for sure of the wheeled version and it was assigned to the Arizona as well. Just wish there was a mask set for the canopy as I have a second kit with enough parts for the wheeled version. Without the mask set, just way too much nerve-wracking work in 48th scale.
  24. Thanks Gaz. Just love that era as it's so colorful. And of course, thank you for a thumbs up for Saturday's oral surgery.
