  1. Thanks martin - completely agree. I have the numerous parts for the gear all cleaned up and right now they seem a little flimsy but I'm Martin hoping they will strengthen up when everything is assembled. Just going to be a wait and see.
  2. Thanks Gaz Imagine that, after all these years, I stumbled across using foam blocks for masking and temp gear during painting.
  3. Thanks Kai, doing the last of the minor cleanups and two small seams and tomorrow starts painting time - my favorite part of any build.
  4. Carl Nice looking Jagdpanthers. When I first saw the box art in, I thought it was a 1/48 Hasegawa kit and then after reading Martin's post, I realized it was the Meng kit. Can't see why Meng would want to jump into the 1/48 F4 market as there are already a number of big players and a nice range of kits; Tamiya, ZM, Academy and Hasegawa. At this point, just wondering what Meng's offering would be different then the selection.
  5. Phil Very much appreciated and I'm glad I've finally made it to the paint booth - the Whirlwind has been a struggle at times. My wife and I have been watching and following Queen Elizabeth's Funeral on TV. Her influence on the world has been just remarkable.
  6. Rog I built meng 1/24 GT40 and the detail was very good as well as the fit. Of all the GT40's out there, the meng offering seems to be the class of the field. As far as the F4G's go, need to read some reviews and see what's what.
  7. Gaz The engine barer as well as the entire assembly with the cockpit lots so good and nicely detailed. Glad you are tackling the wings now as I'm always suspect as how well the outer panels will fit - will it be as if the wing skin is a solid piece with perfect panel lines or roadblocks ahead. I'm always suspect of this type of construction and always have had troubles in the past with various kits. Even access/movable panels never seem to fit well (except Tamiya) Looking forward to how your wing assembly goes.
  8. Thanks Gaz for the insight. Just seems ZM should have done a better job on that wiring so that all the parts would be of the same detail
  9. Martin I have no idea how I missed this post - has to be a senior moment. Absolutely topflight work and the weather is brilliantly done.
  10. Martin, nice work for sure and I'm sure your daughter loved it. A wonderful addition to her collection.
  11. Thanks John, getting ready to finish the few small items I found after priming and then it's cammo time.
  12. Gaz Nice work on the cockpit and IP - detail painting and weathering look mighty good. I've made a note to 'clean up' the wiring you pointed out under the red bracket when I get going on my 109 i just doesn't look right the way ZM molded the part (wires).
  13. Thanks Martin as I had no idea meng was introducing the F4-G. I did a quick Google search and couldn't find any reviews.
  14. Thanks Mike, much appreciated. Can't wait to finally reach the paint shop portion of the build.
  15. PRIMING – DONE Priming is complete and went a lot better then I had thought it would. There are just two small seams and two small sanding marks and that’s it – talk about a complete reversal of how the build had been going. Finishing pre-painting touch ups tomorrow and then it’s off to the paint shop. The Whirlwind with her long slender wings, certainly could be a forerunner of things to come: The Lockheed Dragon Lady. With so little actual work done and only needing two photographs, setting up for my usual photo procedure wasn’t in the cards and my iPhone substituted just fine.
  16. Bill Terrific build on Tamiya's Zero. Fit and finish are spot on.
  17. Scott I'm willing to bet when Trumpeter re-issues the kit, Quinta will jump all over it
  18. Kotare Spitfire Check out their website: Kotare Models | High Quality Scale Model Kitsets (kotare-models.com) The instructions are posted, look very similar to ZM's style and the kit details look amazing. MSRP: $109 Can't wait to buy mine and hit the bench running.
