  1. After hearing of my DH.2 misfortune, a most generous member sent me this! It's previously started, but I am SO thankful.
  2. Step 1 of my woodgrain technique. Roland D.VIb and Hansa Brandenburg W.29
  3. Thanks for the encouragement, gents! I'm going to think for a bit on exactly how I want to fixture this thing, then I'll set about fixing it. In the mean time, I've ordered some lozenge decals from Aviattic. I never had much luck with the ones supplied with the kits. I've decided to start this one:
  4. I was in the process of rigging the wings on my DH.2 when it fell off the table... of course, my first instinct was to try and catch it - bad mistake. I snapped off many of the interwing struts. If another was readily available, I'd be tempted to toss it in the trash and start over. Now I'm faced with a couple of choices: Do I set about trying to fix it? I'm thinking I will need to build a jig of sorts to align the wings while cement on the struts dries. It might come in handy when I set about rigging again, as manipulating the thing while threading line is a PITA. Or do I dig out the Albatross, Pfalz, DVII or W.29 that I've started and finish one or more of those and let the DH.2 sit a while? Or do I start a new kit? What would you do?
  5. I struck out on the Camel. Struck out again on the Sopwith Triplane. This just arrived in the mail today; I'll take what I can get. I got it at list, price too!
  6. The Tomy/Swallow/Doyusha kits are A6M2 Type 21 and have beautiful recessed detail, but they were designed to be motorized. The cockpit is worse than terrible, and the engine lacks detail, too. If you can swing it, I'd go for the Tamiya!
  7. Saw this on Facebook. Maybe one day I can get that Camel I've been looking for...
  8. Anxiously awaiting my shipment from Bob's Buckles...
  9. I'm very sad to see the demise of WNW. To me, they accomplished a couple of things: They raised awareness of the vast numbers of aircraft designs from the Great War. Quite a few of their releases were unknown to me. Right out of the gate, they set a standard for quality that is rarely seen. They spawned an entire AM cottage industry. They generated God knows how many TOS pages of conjecture on the selling price of the Lancaster.
  10. Alas, Carl - that's the Snipe, not the Camel. Thanks anyway!
  11. Ordered the Roden Dr.1 yesterday; I'll just have to make due. I've been looking all over for Barker's Camel with no luck. :-(
  12. Check here. It says it's in stock... https://section8hobbies.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=wingnut
  13. I placed an order for a Camel from a shop in Buffalo prior to seeing any of this news. My order has been "processing" for the better part of a week now. I have a number of WNW kits in the stash; all but the Felixstowe are single seaters. I was really looking forward to that Dr.1 :-(
  14. Great work, Ron! Fear not about the landing gear. They've held up quite well on mine.
  15. Luckily, I'm a long way from NY City. If the border was open, it would be faster for me to drive to Detroit! We are still subject to the mandatory statewide closures: no bars or restaurants (except take out). No movies or malls, even barbers and hair salons are closed. Liquor stores are deemed essential, so they're still open. The grocery stores have been able to restock, though they're imposing limits on meat, bread, milk and toilet paper. We seem to be adjusting to the new normal.
  16. Four years ago, I sent the kit landing gear from the Z-M J7W1 Shinden to a friend in Texas. Yesterday, I got these back. Resin cast over metal rods, and they are beautifully done. The rod extends through the bend on the main gear, too. Not sure if they're for sale yet; I'll let anyone interested know when they are.
  17. No. That branching is from front and back cylinder banks. Here's a Pegasus from a Fairey Swordfish...
  18. Watching this one with interest, Ron. The old Beau takes a LOT of work to bring it up to current standards. I did one about four years ago... it was prior to release of the Model Monkey cockpit - the build log is here: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/65261-beaufighter-252-squadron-1942/&tab=comments#comment-850746 Those exhaust tubes from the engine to the collector ring are a bear. When all was said and done, it was difficult to see the added detail. Good luck!
  19. How do you keep modular units together, Harv? Do they use magnets like Hobbyzone?
  20. Go, Harv, go! https://www.arttystation.com/en-US/Board/Detail?boardInfoID=21&boardID=150
  21. It's a thing of beauty - and long overdue...
