  1. That Snake Stuka sure brings back memories, Jerry. All very nicely done!
  2. I lost $100 on that deal too. Mk XVI for me.
  3. Rob, you are correct about the availability of Quinta items for the Mossie. I bought the Yahu panel for the D520; it was the only thing available for that kit. I haven't looked closely enough at the dials...
  4. I'm a big fan of Quinta Studios sets, but if you're looking for just the IP I would highly recommend the Yahu panel. I'm still trying to figure out how they got the clear glass over the dials.
  5. Wing floats in progress. I drilled holes in a piece of Evergreen strip to align the inner struts. The bottom surface has a coat of Insignia White already. Beaching gear. I'm going with white to show a little contrast against the main float. Eight pieces for the prop hub! The surface detail on a lot of the parts is a bit soft to my eye. Not so on external surface detail. Lower side of control surfaces. The rudder (not shown) has been done in white; I'll mask and paint red horizontal stripes. Main float nearly complete. I'm contemplating drilling out the locating pins (to the bottom of the fuselage) and replacing them with brass rod.
  6. Impressive work, Chris! The molded detail on this kit looks very crisp. I've always liked the looks of the Cat, but I'm a 1/32 scale snob and the HpH kit is a little too much. I look forward to seeing this one finished. Personally, I use Mr. Surfacer 1500 (black) as a primer and as a finish coat for large black subjects (my 1/72 USS Scorpion was finished this way) - a smooth, satin finish that dries super fast and is tough as nails.
  7. With no idea how the front cowl ring attaches to the engine, I decided I would build up most of the cowling first. I was never very good at following directions. A little finagling, and the engine fits. This means I'll have to cement the whole thing as an assembly when the time comes. On to the floats. I'm going with Navy blue uppers and white lower surfaces. Rather than risk blue overspray on the underside of the plane, I'll paint the floats separately, then attach as a near final step. Undersides have been painted. KH calls for a couple of pieces of PE for the upper side of the main float. Parts #16 and #21. Unfortunately, my PE fret only goes up to #20.
  8. Rob, I had dipped the canopies in Future; I stripped them chemically - about 10 seconds in household ammonia. Repositioning the Montex masks left small scratches in the acrylic coating.
  9. Brain fart. When I started the engine, I cemented part E58 upside down. No big deal, except that I use that feature to locate the exhausts. The result is that the exhausts don't line up properly. It took a few minutes to identify the issue. All that's left are the small crossover tubes and the engine is finished. I'm still trying to figure out how the front cowl ring is supposed to be mounted... Got the canopies dipped. I tried Montex masks and didn't like them. Eduards masks have been ordered - I had to strip a couple of the pieces and re-dip. Waiting for some Airscale placards for the cockpit, then I can seal it up.
  10. Thanks! The kit is not without its flaws, but not as bad as I thought long ago when I started it. Unfortunately, Kitty Hawk went belly up not too very long ago. You might be able to find one on evilbay.
  11. A few things yet to add to the sidewalls. Seat belts, throttle quadrant, and possibly some placards to dress it up, then I'll be ready to close up the fuselage.
  12. Good to see you here, Maru!
  13. I started this one years ago. It landed on the SOD; I got discouraged. Most likely I'll be using the scheme on the box top, though I might be tempted to finish it in the USS Arizona colors. The instructions call for Field Green (FS34097) for the interior. My gut said it should be Interior Green (FS34151), but I went with the Field Green... Still some small knobs to attach to the IP: Some engine work has been done as well; I'll post photos when it's complete. Still lots of work to do before I can close the fuselage. Foot rests and machine gun mount:
  14. Looks like a nice kit! How do I get Neil from HK to be MY friend?
  15. I'm usually pretty good at identifying IJN/IJA suff, but I'm at a loss here, Gary. What kit is this?
  16. Dragging a few out in anticipation of the GB... Kitty Hawk OS2U Revell Arado 196A HpH Ship's Catapult
  17. Sprue Brothers had but one WNW kit I desired...
  18. My entry to the "You Get Me So Wet" GB will be the KittyHawk OS2U. It was started some time ago and landed on the overcrowded SOD. I was going to pull my Revell Arado 196A off the SOD and complete it for this GB, but it's beyond the 25% built threshold. I have the HpH catapult for it; maybe if I can finish the Kingfisher in tie I can see about tackling that.
  19. Ernie, Thanks for your efforts all year long and especially for the Christmas Raffle! Count me in, please. I'd like to contribute an MRC/Academy Ki-58 "Black Death".
  20. Just got back from my club's monthly meeting. It was Secret Santa...
