  1. Nice work, Bill!
  2. Thank you! Did you go? I was there both days.
  3. Thanks mate. I've been working a dio on that one in my head too. To change the viewpoint and give an impression of speed, I'm thinking of using acrylic rods and water textures to make something a little unusual in ship dios.
  4. Canopy and pit look great. Those little details on the canopy hood are the cat's meow.
  5. Looks amazing, Peter! The detail shot at the beginning shows just how crisp those panel lines are.
  6. You know... I bought the Hasegawa Ki-61 a few years ago. Much to my disgust, both wings were warped badly. I went looking online and found I wasn't the only one to have that problem. They're relatively thin, and I couldn't imagine how I'd separate them cleanly and insert something thin enough, yet rigid enough to take care of the warp. Canopy - wings... you're wondering where I'm going. Mainly what I'm talking about are things that could be managed easier in larger scale. !/48 canopies are much thicker in scale compared to larger scales. There's really no room to work. Even if you did get it separated, you would struggle thinning it, and really struggle trying to get the inner surfaces smooth enough because your fingertips just wont fit. And... being brittle. even if you did put in the effort... it would probably crack just as you thought your were almost there. Sorry buddy.
  7. Glad it passed you by, Peter!
  8. ...and sometimes... we just try too hard.
  9. Thank you! Many of the kits have extras... metal barrels... or Cavalier Zimmerit.
  10. Thank you! I have been thinking hard on the battle cruiser. Unlike a later version, there is very little surface detail. A very blank canvas. I was thinking on some common-sense panel lines and maybe some interior lighting... though I have never messed with that kind of stuff before.
  11. Wow! From the missiles to the beginning weathering, the finish is just excellent.
  12. This weekend was the big event for Queensland modellers and an especially big event for me. Queensland Model Hobbies Expo. The first competition in which I took part. It also had a swap meet as well as some regular retailers. I got some second hand kits and fresh new books: And an award... On the flip side.... I got no modelling done this past weekend.
  13. Very nice!I really like your turned propeller hubs!
  14. Thank you for sharing!!
  15. She's a beaut, John. Love the way the paint came out... lots of modulation and great transitions in an ultra smooth finish.
  16. Here's a motivating painting I just saw on Farcebook:
  17. Peter, Awesome looking work! And great photos, too! Stunning!
  18. Rockets and canopy parts look great. Canopy parts are a great add, IMHO. Most of the time, canopies look like empty plastic shells... which is what they are. They all need some small details to make them look realistic in an open setting.
  19. Why not a Lockheed Vega?? Because only 7 people alive in the world today knows what it is, and only two might buy it. They will be a failure if they sell some subject that isn't known world-round. Period. Fw 190A, P51, spitfire, Jug, Zero (doubt it), Bf 109, Hurricane, P40... or a well known and well wanted WWI subject. Otherwise they'll be out of bread faster than Ernie can empty his six shooter. BTW, Ern... what's up with the FW 190 C?? It was a test plane only. Seriously doubt ppl gonna pony up for that and it's huge exhaust pipe.
  20. I can't help it... I love to speculate. The question is: Can anyone identify either of those parts shown on their webpage. I can definitely say that I haven't seen them on anything I've ever built.
  21. Peter, I served with an active RF-4b squadron for a short time in 1984-85. The exhaust vanes...or whatever they are called... are a metallic color with a hint of yellow... with soot all over them. The soot dominates. The soot stains the stabilators, too... as well as those metallic bits underneath.
  22. That looks very interesting, John! Can't wait to see more.
