  1. I'll add in on this thread. Last year was a bad year for my builds. I think I only completed 2, but one was a bucket list build. The Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. And I completed one of my Revell P-51's. Although I started both P-51's at the same time, one found the shelf of doom. This year I'm already knocking out another bucket list build, the F-16D in my other thread. Already made the decision that as soon as this one is done, opening the second kit and knocking out the other bucket list build, a Thunderbird F-16D. Then back on the other P-51 and maybe the Revell C-17 that's almost ready for paint. If I have time left over, I'll start on one of my big bomber kits.
  2. That C-47 is big enough to make a pool table lamp out of!
  3. Usually new cars have baked on paint to speed up the cure. But the application shop will know what's best. Processes for application are getting easier than the original coatings that came out originally. One application was actually applied, then lit on fire! It was an instant blue flame that ran across the surface and went out as quick as it lit. My son is getting into a side detailing business doing paint corrections and he is looking into taking the classes on applying ceramic coating. I do know that if not done right, it has to be sanded off with something like 1500 grit sandpaper and then the surface buffed and reapplied. As with any new car finish, it really does need an extra deep cleaning, especially if it was delivered via rail car. The iron deposits that get on a cars finish from sitting outside at a manufacturers plant (sometimes sit for up to a month or longer) and then spend days traveling by rail car are amazing. They have a cleaner that turns purple when it hits these iron deposits. Check out some of the YouTube videos of iron cleaners. My automotive detail cart in my garage is as full as my toolbox of model building paints and supplies!
  4. Ceramic coating is good stuff. It’s not snake oil. I use a spray on surface protectant that works like a ceramic coating, but its temporary. Give HydroSilex a try, but don’t use anything until your paint has had plenty of time to cure. Consult with your painter.
  5. Looking at photos on line, I cannot find this on any US F-16D’s. This is the Academy F-16I SUFA. Maybe a conversion on the Israeli planes? I’m thinking this needs to be sanded smooth and any low spots filled.
  6. Due to my other post asking about drop tank size and the perfect image of the bird I'm building in take off, I've made a few changes. One, I had to add the bird splitters in front of the canopy. My image above is the old paint job without the updates. And since I'm building this on a stand with it taking off, I had to cut the leading edge flaps loose from the wing and droop them. Here they are cut loose and some shims holding them in the down position. Took about an hour last night gently sawing on the panel line to get this accomplished. So far I'm very happy with my outcome.
  7. That’s the plane I’m building! You found some great images here. Wish I saw that photo earlier before the wings went together and glued on. Gotta try to figure out how to drop those leading edges now. I’m Building it in take off mode just like this with gear going up. Now the big question.....which image is the latest paint job. I guess I’ll send these to my MD tomorrow and ask him.
  8. I guess I asked the wrong question. 370 or 600. Working on the Academy kit. Come with every flavor known. Might build them all and see which looks closest to the photo.
  9. Anyone know if these are the 300 or 600 gallon drop tanks?
  10. Ha! I have my safe and my sons thking up space with my table shoehorned in. I know the feeling. Of course mine doesn’t have all the fun toys with a happy switch like yours does. Been eyeing those HZ bottle holders. Just tried out my first bottle of paint with the flip open dispenser lids last night. Man I’m hooked already!
  11. Peter, Order these. No more cleaning out eyedroppers! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Z4QVZ4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  12. After the wife went to bed, I went down to the workshop to get a little build time in. As long as I accomplish something, I can sleep better it seems! Last night I reinforced the engine structure inside the fuse, and I added the extra tail cone for the GE engine to use as a support for the cardboard receiver tube for the base. An Acrylic rod will go inside this. You can see where I had to add Evergreen stock as a spacer. Getting this aligned so the acrylic rod is centered is a real booger! Shims my not be pretty, but they are never to be seen again once I button up the fuselage halves.
  13. My God, you are so right. It seems these cars are an idiot magnet. I can be driving down the road, last car in a long line and some twerp in his momma's car he installed a fart can muffler on always has to come flying up behind me, squeeeezzze in between me and the car in front of me just to make a damned point that either he's a better driver or just a complete moron. Sometimes I wish I could install machine guns behind flip-down headlights.
  14. Lost interest! Found a few very thin spots in the resin and just put it aside.
  15. Sorry about that! SCANG South Carolina Air National Guard This is THE aircraft I’m building. As. Far as I know, this might be my MD in the back seat.
  16. Current project just started. F-16D. In the background is a "dead" 1/144 Anigrand C-141B
  17. Been wanting to build a SCANG Swampfox D model for over 20 years when I got back into plastic from RC. One of my flying buddies was a crew chief on the units D models. I had decals custom made, but waited for a two seater to come out. Unfortunately around 2004 my friend lost his life in a T-6 Texan crash at a community carnival where they were giving free rides. Pilot didn’t know his fuel gauge decided to go bad that day. Stalled on takeoff and slammed flat into the ground. This past fall I discovered my MD is the Flight Surgeon for the same unit. The things you learn after 26 years of singing Moon River to him..... Found out he has to get flight time in the back seat of an F-16 after poking and prodding everyone in the unit. So the build is back on! This weekend the SUFA got opened up! Started with the cockpit and now I’m jumping around to fitting the Zacto intake, gluing up assemblies and moving on to modding the engine since I’m planning on building in takeoff attitude with a base connected to an acrylic rod, Gear will be starting to retract. Base is going to be special, and not disclosing that tidbit yet since I want it to be a surprise. And if I screw it up, you’ll never know! Drilled out engine cardboard receiver tube More to follow!
  18. Rails are nice, aren't they? I parked next to a 4WD truck today that had been off roading. I think my Mustang was nastier. Starting to get pollen and winters road grime is still pilled up. I need tp pull out the pressure washer.
  19. Tick is perfectly normal. Mine has it off and on as well. ‘18 engines had a real problem with cylinder wall clearance and piston slap was destroying pistons.
  20. And that catch can his hanging out there working as a radiator cooling the oil and collecting the condensation. Just rolled 45,000 miles on my '15 driving home yesterday. I still need, want, gotta have that hood!! But alas, with the soon to be released HB B-24D I know where I need to put my money.
  21. It’s amazing how much oil these Coyotes blow back into the intake. I forgot to empty mine for about 5000 miles. It was almost full. I’m running the JLT.
  22. My daughter busted up the front of her 2009 Nissan Altima a few weeks back. Very similar damage, but no ice. She was looking at her wisdom teeth in her mirror. Not doing insurance claim since they would probably total it since there is very minor damage to the hood as well. Instead I ordered all the parts for $700 and I’ll swap them out when she gets a break up at Clemson. She’s going to live with the hood damage. Hood repair and labor along with better crash parts (OEM) would have probably pushed this close to $4K.
  23. Been planning this one out for over a year and holding off starting any new models until I could eat it wrapped up. Finally happened today. I was part of the class action lawsuit against Harbor Freight tools and received just over $500 in store credit. I used it to buy this box and attached side cabinet. Still had to fork over $175 To get out of the store with it all. Local metal supermarkets provided all the steel (to the tune of almost $300) and the top came from Global Supply and added wood edging from Lowes I had to cut and fit. Another $325 gone.... Add paint, hardware, casters, etc.... All in all, about $900 invested after the “almost free” box. So I finally have more storage for all the odds and ends ans accessories laying around the garage.
