Tamiya 1/35 Kit Tiger (Production)
BlrwestSiR replied to RalphSarc's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
The King Tiger looks great Ralph. Those AK markers really make it easier to do all the OVM tools and other small bits. Carl -
Lotus 49C - Ebbro - 1/20

Some great work on the Lotus Rob. The belts look very convincing and much better than a decal. Carl -
Paul, the bottle was basically empty which caught me off guard. I have a bottle of Mr Color Replenisher and it's handy to have. I've used regular Mr Color lacquer thinner in the past to "rejuvenate" older bottles of Mr Color. Haven't had any issues doing so. Carl

Nice! But I'm not sure that's FS36118.

Working on my ZM FW190, I needed some RLM66 for the cockpit. My go-to is Mr Color 116 for this. So I duly reached for the bottle on my paint rack. Except it looked like this: Empty. Checking the various websites for my local shops, it seemed none had any in stock. Them I checked a Gunpla store and they had some. So I placed an order with them. With the ongoing Canada Post strike , they offered free courier delivery and I got it today. So I'm back in business.

That's better than the 2 years/40,000 km one my sister had on her 2000 Jetta. At 26 months and 42,000 k, all 4 wheel bearings failed at the same time. I pushed back at the dealer who said she must be bouncing the car off curbs. Not a smidge of curb rash on any of the rims. They finally relented and did it for the cost of parts. My parents so didn't trust the car after that they bought her lease out and returned the Jetta. She got a Subaru after that.

The engine goes together well. I'm going to paint it after it's all together. Not much is seen, certainly almost none of the backside as everything will be closed up. The MLG bays are separate parts along with the wing spar and a fairly large reinforcement. The latter two helped with getting the dihedral correct. The instructions have you glue the fuselage halves together first and then install the cockpit. At this point I thought I'd test fit the Eduard cockpit tub. It seems the resin has shrunk and it won't work. The resin tub has a pair of tabs on the floor that insert into the fuselage sides, same as the kit tub. As you can see in the pic, the rear deck part of the tub isn't long enough to reach all the way to the back of the opening. Likewise, the side consoles aren't wide enough to reach the fuselage sides. Here's the kit part for comparison. Ignore the gap at the top right side, that's from me squeezing the fuselage halves together. At this point, I'll be skipping the resin tub and maybe use some what details I can from it.

Once in a while, I get the economies of scale idea and will do a couple kits of the same subject simultaneously. It possibly saves me some time painting, or building. Conversely it can cause me to burnout and give up. Best case was when I did 3 Tamiya Spitfires at the same time. With a Revell one along for the ride. I've got a build thread going on the ZM FW190 A-4 kit and was asked how it compared to the Revell one. Since I had the Revell kit in the stash it wasn't much trouble to do so. Which led to me doing a bit of work on it and then next thing you know, I've glued a couple parts together and I'm at the point of no return and might as well build it too. So here's a separate build thread for the Revell kit to keep things less cluttered than my bench. Obligatory box shot. I also have primary 1 of Eduard's Brassin detail sets.

The alternator on your 2021 Pilot went? Isn't that a bit too new? Our Element is a 2007 so that's at least reasonable.

It's one reason to keep an analog car. They have a better chance of actually being able to work on it without need a computer degree. Not saying we need to go back to carbs and drum brakes though.

I finally found my bottle of RLM 02. It was back on the paint rack. Go figure. Anyways, that mean I could finally get some paintwork done and move the build forward. Whoops, wrong FW kit. I decided to paint that one since I had the paint loaded in the airbrush. Let's try again.

Sunny is about 6 years old. Garfield looks adorable. Jimmy still acts like a puppy. A 115 lb puppy with a bowling ball for a head.

My neighbour came over today and gave me a hand. He got the clip undone so that we could pull the rad fan out. Then it was the power steering pump and finally the alternator itself. New vs. old Everything back together. A quick test drive and no more dash lights and noises from.under the hood.

I decided to try an experiment in painting the exhausts. Instead of my usual approach and airbrushing them with Alclad or Xtreme Metal, I dry brushed them with Ammo Drybrush paint. It seems to have worked out okay. Next time I might try it over a black base coat.

Next up was the tail wheel. Again, a fair bit of internal details that much of which won't be seen. Installed into the separate tail. What you'll see when done. It's almost tempting to do another one with the panels opened up for a contrasting appearance.
-
I finally spent some time at the bench working on the FW. Continuing with the wings, I used the alternate lower panels as <|| doesn't have outer wing guns. Once dry, I filled the seam lines around the panels. I then glued the upper wings in place on the inner structure. One nice thing compared to their 109 kit is that the wing is in fewer parts.

Rob, the Revell kit doesn't look that bad. I haven't tried building it yet so that'll be the real test. I also have some Eduard resin sets for it.

1:32nd scale SE5a (Viper)

The wing undersides really look like linen. -
Nice kit there Paul. If it's Modelkasten tracks then definitely the Fruil ones will be easier to assemble. I have some Modelkasten tracks for the Sherman and each link is 10-11 parts depending on the type. Carl

It gets worse. To reach the alternator, I have to pull the rad shroud, loosen and move the rad support and pull the overflow tank. Then I can get to the rad fan which has to come out. Finally, the power steering pump has to be unbolted. At that point, I can get to the alternator. So I'm stuck on removing the rad fan. I can't get this clip undone. It's for a wire that runs on the bottom of the rad fan housing. The pic is from below looking up. Oh and for some reason, there's absolutely no mention of this wire in any of the guides I've read. Anyone got an extra set of hands?
