Kaireckstadt Posted May 30, 2021 Author Posted May 30, 2021 No report on rework tonight. Finished the masking. For masking of non-glas areas I use Mr. Hobby masking fluid. I don’t use it for glas parts because on one occasion in the past the glas of a plane became cloudy. I started with the cockpit: followed by the canopy: Then came the landing gear bays: And finally the small bits: Landing light and position lights: That’s it for now. Now the airbrush will be unpacked... 8

Excess can be simply wiped away after application. I‘m really happy now that I‘m close to the paintshop! What about your P-39 and the F-4? 3
DocRob Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 Masking is better than reworking and the best is PAINTING, so close now, Kai. Your subassemblies look gorgeous and the Mirage will be a stunner soon. I had once a slight clouding effect with Mr. Masking Sol Neo on a canopy which I gave a Future bath before. The masking fluid was on the canopy for some weeks. Now I tried the water based Mr. Masking fluid and have to see how this worked out on my Hellcat canopy. It's a bit thinner compared to NEO and a bit less smelly. You know exactly, when you have used a certain word, like rework, too often while posting, when exactly these letters on the keyboard are broken . Cheers Rob 4

The canopy of my kit is also of such bad quality that I cannot use it. It‘s wavy on the surface and full of distortions. Will send a claim to Italeri. I don’t know which kind of final quality control they have. I‘m really lucky that I have a second kit where I took the replacement from. What did we state regarding quality?: Of which value is a quality system when your quality standards are that low? But now I‘m close to the step which I love: The painting! 4 1 2

I think there's a Gremlin somewhere hidden in the fuselage , so much bad luck is no coincidence, thank god you are now at the painting stage, Looking forward to that, Cheers, Frank 3

I use Incredible White Mask from a company called Grafix in Cleveland USA for liquid masking and it's great. Never had any problems with clouding, etc. From memory I got it off Amazon. Hope the paint booth work goes smoother than all your problems so far. 2 1

A few years back, I built a 1/48th scale Kfir with a cammo finish which should be similar to your plans; Paints were Ammo by Mig and went down without a hitch. I really love the color scheme! Hope that mine will turn out as beautiful as yours. I can't find any pics of the undersides except a few under construction pics - I used Mig FS36375. Kaireckstadt Posted June 4, 2021 Author Posted June 4, 2021 Before I started with the priming process I first reworked and airbrushed the inside of the intakes: I had to mask the cone due to the weathering on it. Now it is repainted and I can mask it tomorrow: This was followed by painting the windshield and canopy black: Then I primed the plane with Mr. Surfacer 1200 to find out the flaws which have to be reworked. As expected there were several that occurred: As expected most of the rework has to be done on the tail cone and the intake areas where the fit was worst. So back to the bench for reworking of the marked areas and then back to the paintshop. 8 1
