Despite this fact, I used the even better Brassin engine for my Birdcage, some years ago. The extra detail came with the price of having to mask all the black cylinder cover metal plates, which Tamiya luckily provided separately. BlrwestSiR Posted March 23, 2021 Author Share Posted March 23, 2021 Reading the instructions (the horror!), I realized I had to make the exhaust and intake stubs first before joining the two engine banks together. I started with the semigloss black for the intakes and then masked them off for the exhaust colour. I used the Tamiya mix recommended in the instructions for those. They were then glued to the rear of the front cylinder bank. At the same time, I painted the exhaust pipes and these were installed to the firewall. Some go from above and others from below. It took a while to get them all threaded through and in place but I got it done. Then I gave the engine a wash using a random mix of Mr Weathering washes. I would Dan my brush in their thinner then in Multi Black followed by Ground Brown and apply to the engine. This way it's not a consistent shade around the whole engine. BlrwestSiR Posted April 29, 2021 Author Share Posted April 29, 2021 Well, it looks like I haven't updated this in a while. As a result I seems to have missed documenting a few steps. I attached the engine to the frame and cowl flaps. The engine then went onto the assembled fuselage. I then finished the assembly of the wing centre section.
