Peterpools
Mark Outstand paint and prep work. being a novice at auto gloss finishes, I've only needed to polish after the primer coat and the color coats seemed to be smooth enough. I think on my next race build, I'm going to follow your lead and polish before and after the color coats. BY the way, I'm planning on starting two new projects: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire MkXVIe Hasegawa 1/24 Castrol Jaguar XJR9; 24 hours Daytona Winner, 1988. Nowhere in the league of a MFH kit in size and detail but a fun build and a nice addition to the collection. Keep 'em comin Peter

Peterpools
Thanks Mark Glad you'll be on the bus for the journey. I'm going to try your polishing technique on the Jag and see how it goes. To be honest, I didn't wet sand any of the paint layers or clear coats at all just used the Gravity polishing system. But have no fears, the Jag will follow your example., Keep 'em comin Peter

Peterpools
Mark Looking so good and glad the damage wasn't as bad as it could have been. In my limited experience of painting model cars, I've learned the hard way, to paint the entire car at the same time, keeping the color the same for each body part. Where I went off and it required a complete strip down to bare plastic, was the number of color coast and the amount of paint I shot on with each coat was always different. So, if some body parts were painted at a different time, the more or less paint was air brushed on and the color didn't match matched. Yours look great so I'm still wondering? mark31
Thanks Peter. But i think it wil be ok. Still need to polish and clearcoat the other parts. So you can see big difrence on how to bring the color to life. Now next round of polishing its to Hot out here to do paint work Almost 32 ° c out here Mark 5

DocRob
What a wonderful looking car Mark. Pity you dropped it, but good to hear, that all is fixable. I'm with Peter, as I try to paint car bodies and motorbikes in one go, but I think you have painted all the red parts in one instance and only polishing and clear coat at different times. 1

Yes indeed most parts where painted Also i have orderd 6 bottles ofpaint at once so its from the same lot to have no color difrence from that. All little things helps when painting. I have learnd with mistakes from the past. About reparations almost there. This weekend not much building because the high temprature out here. I hope to get bench time next week. DocRob
Quite some bending involved with these sneaking exhausts. The whole engine section looks great, with a nice 'feel' for the materials. Cheers Rob 2

Administrators Clunkmeister Posted June 27, 2022 Administrators Share Posted June 27, 2022 Mark, I JUST stumbled on to this thread and I’m in the process of picking my jaw up off the floor. This is easily one of the most superb builds I’ve ever seen. I’m decidedly NOT a model car builder, so I don’t appreciate what goes into these, but ai will admit to being glued to this thread now. Un-bloody-believable! Ill also say that I’ve looked at the Model Factory Hiro website and have been looking very closely at their Brough Superior motorcycle kit. But it’s I sanely expensive! Yikes! But, save for the Vincent Black Shadow/Lightning, it’s easily my favorite motorcycle of all time. Looks like they’ve got a nice 48 PANHEAD as well, but by the time it arrives here, it’d be knocking on a THOUSAND dollars! Still cheaper than a real one, I guess…🤣 4
