Peterpools Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Ernie Some mighty fine work on the dive flaps and they do look so good 3

I wonder if they contributed much drag to the wing when they were retracted. Well, they’re shot full of holes of various calibers, so I’d expect they don’t help. 🤣 I did read that the holes were added to cure a buffeting problem while diving. So they obviously did something for airflow. 5 1
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted December 29, 2022 Author Administrators Posted December 29, 2022 In the paint shop. Stay tuned 5
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted December 29, 2022 Author Administrators Posted December 29, 2022 Not ready for public consumption yet…. Hopefully in a couple days we’ll do the Intermediate Blue, then start fading it out 8 2
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted December 29, 2022 Author Administrators Posted December 29, 2022 The prop is friction fit on. Because it looks bloody awesome! 4

Martinnfb Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 That blue top coat is spotless and from the front angle the otherwise clunky Helldiver looks almost menacing. Loving it ! 4
Peterpools Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Looking so good and with the prop and spinner on, she is looking like one tough gal. 3

DocRob Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 As the others mentioned, paintjob looks spot on, but the top wow goes to the flaps, absolutely the signature parts of the Helldiver and the extra detailing helps a lot. I have a SH 1/72 Helldiver with more PE for it than plastic, I am frightened of that build . Cheers Rob 3

Now we do the all important middle color 4 1 2

Winnie Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Man that 3 color navy camo shore looks fine though! Nothing you can't deal with I'm sure! 3
ScottsGT Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Paint lifting? I thought we called that “weathering” or “patina”? 2 5
Peterpools Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Ernie Looking mighty good and I'm with Scott - you have achieved the art of natural weathering. 😉 2
Landlubber Mike Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Looking fantastic Ernie. The paint lifting shouldn't be too difficult to correct, nice job! 3
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 1, 2023 Author Administrators Posted January 1, 2023 I’ll do the fixes and fills on the intermediate blue today. I’m getting OLD! I used to be able to freehand the soft color lines on various camo s, but now I’m shaking all over. Plus, my ancient VL finally crapped out on me, so out came the brand new Grex I bought two years ago and that I’m learning to like. Like I said, weathering is gonna be a bear, but I have plenty of grey and insignia white. 😂 4 1

Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 2, 2023 Author Administrators Posted January 2, 2023 Slowly getting there… 7 1
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 2, 2023 Author Administrators Posted January 2, 2023 I expect the cowl color separations need to softened a bit, but other than that, we can start wrecking the paint and making it look trashed. There is NOTHING uglier that pristine glossy dark sea blue on an unbroken surface. Yuck! 4

As I hit my late sixties, my steady air brush hands weren't as steady as they use to be. After chemo, it was worse, but over time I improved and found alternatives to freehand cammo. I now look at it, I just I'm glad to still be able to build and do the best I can. Maybe we're like aging athletes (🙃), the glory days are behind us and new adventures ahead. I have all my Iwata and H&S air brushes for close to twenty years and except for changing seals, tips and needles, all work just fine. I do have a Grix I use for Model Air paints and it's equal to my other air brushes in every way. 1
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 3, 2023 Author Administrators Posted January 3, 2023 I dunno, I spent a couple hours fading some areas of the GSB, and it’s slowly getting away from the monotone look. 7 1
Peterpools Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Ernie Delicate air brush work and well worth the time and effort. Looking mighty good 1
