Nice progress on the Hurricane - hope you can buy Tamiya filler by the gallon can 😉

I still haven't opened up my kit which is sitting right next to the Kotare Spitfire - I'm hoping and waiting for Quinta cockpit sets for both in the not too distant future.

The Red Fox and Yahu panels work perfectly for the Revell kit. I used Yahu, and it’s is awesome.

Peter, the Kotare kit doesn’t need any panel upgrades. It’s great as it is. YMMV of course.

With the carburetor air intake, there is a definite gap around both sides of the scoop. Is this normal? Do the skin panels not fit hard against the scoop?  The gap is similar on both sides.

This is the Science museum Mk.I, and looking at other Hurricane photos there is a gap.

Ernie, coming along a storm, pound per hour is brilliant on such an accomplished kit, bravo Revell……..

If I can make this kit look good, then anyone can.
It’s a great little kit

It's looking good, Ernie.  I'm still waiting for a new MK. I.

Thanks Gaz.  A Mk.l would be nice, yes. The shorter nose makes it distinctive.  But I can understand why they went with the MK.ll, being that it was used in most all theatres of the war.   A desert camo version will be in my future, as well as a ship borne version.  A Vokes filter IS included in the kit, as well as the fuselage bottom for the arrest or hook, so I expect they’re all on the way at some point.

Got some paint on it.  I had to freehand the camo pattern, and used the Mk.l eyeball to approximate the RAF camo pattern.  It certainly isn’t exact, but a reasonable facsimile thereof, and close enough for us Yanks, I s’pose.
I’ll look tomorrow and maybe modify a few lines, but all in all, I think it’s alright.  Once we mask and spray the roundels, it’ll hide a few of the niggles.
It still needs the Sky band ahead of the fin.
I assume that band was applied over the RAF camo?
I did, and hopefully lightly applying it will allow some bleed through….
Please, if I’m wrong, please advise.

Question: the red areas around the guns.  Are they painted, or was it a tape to seal the muzzles before use?

  • Clunkmeister changed the title to Revell 1/32 Hurricane ll, a splash of colour

Red doped patches over the gun ports, nice article here from Britmodeller.

This one is predominately about Spitfires but does have a Hurricane IIb photo showing the patches, which came in a sticky backed roll.

I thought I’d try Revell’s wing roundel decals on a smooth, glossy surface.

Holy Silvering, Batman!.  247 hits of Solvaset did nothing at all.

Sorry about the nasty pic. Color, exposure, everything sux. Normal for me, but this one’s a bit more “normal” than my regular stuff.

If the Solvaset wasn't effective, what did you go with? On my Revell Spitfire, I used a combination of both the Revell decals and EagleCal decals and found the Revell decals responded to both Microset/Sol and Mr Setter/Softer.  I did use the kit roundels and they sat down well from what I remember.

I then went with MicroSol, and it was no different.
I trimmed right to the color line, and it still messed the edges.

Tamiya has an extra Strong decal solvent now. I used it on my ZM F-4 IP decals and it gets them soft enough to conform around the various dials and buttons.

If you've used enamel or lacquer for the clear coat, you could also try Tamiya X20A thinner. But it could cause severe wrinkling if you're not careful.

I’ve never built Revell since I was 11, and it’s probably easier to lift them up, grab my trusty circle cutter, and make some masks.

But ai just get this set in my mind to bloody well not give up and tame it through straight acid if need be.
Failing that, a couple blocks of Semtex oughta do it.

I loved building the Fly Hurricane, but a proper, non-limited run kit is very much appreciated.

I’m quite enjoying this as well.  It’s a simple build, at least as far as a Hurricane allows, and the fit is turning out to be quite nice.
It’s very Airfix-like, though, with prominent mould lines and plenty of cleanup is definitely needed

Jim, I really want to see you build your JetMads Lear 35. That’s gonna be a stunner!!!!

But yeah I know, it takes its place in line. 🤣

Harald, it’s refreshing to hear others had issues with it as well.  I should have known better, but quite honestly, after the odyssey of the Helldiver, I’m really enjoying a couple or three new tool, almost OOB builds.
I should have masked and sprayed them, but seeing that my camo pattern pattern is a somewhat reasonable (squint to look at it) facsimile of the RAF second pattern, I simply went with the decals.

I’m sure this build and especially the camo pattern is an absolute joke to the true RAF guys here, but to me, it’s a simple “make it look nice” exercise.
