C-46 SOD refugee finished

This Williams Bros. 1/72 C-46 languished on my SOD for many years. I worked on it but put it up several times over the years so now I decided to go on and finish it. There were several problems that couldn't be corrected, the windows for one which were already installed. The cockpit glass is cracked also. No getting around that. At any rate, I decided to finish it off. Decals are Caracal and it's painted with Testor's MM. It's nice to "save" a model from the SOD. :)

Another great one John!  Poor plane was probably wondering what it was doing on the SOD - came out great!

Beautiful subject and looks terrific from here.  Nice work, as always, John!  There's another badge to add to your collection: SOD rescuer!

Thank you Chris. :)

Nice work, John! They have a real one on display at the Curtiss Museum not too very far away from me.

Thank you Bill. That's one big airplane! :)

Don't know how I missed your completed Williams C-46 - awesome work on a a very old and tough kit. 🏆

Thanks Peter. I'm glad I was able to save this one from the SOD. It turned out okay. :)

More then just good, just a badly engineered kit from back in the day.

Poorly engineered kit for sure Peter. Too bad but I see Valom released one a while back but I don't know much about it. Might be a knockoff of the Williams Bros. kit.

Great build, John.  Odd to see one in green, though.  Brings back memories, and trust me, if it’s below freezing, DON’T step off the walkways.  That wing IS slippery and you WILL slide all the way down to the trailing edge and shoot off the edge at about 400 mph.
I did a beautiful plop on to my ass and still feel it to this very day.

LOL Ernie. I'm glad you like it. I initially planned to do it in NMF but decided on the OD/Gray instead. I'm going to see about the Valom kit and if it's a better kit I'll see about getting one and doing it in NMF. Should look good next to this one. :)

I have a Valom kit on the way, and will use a set of Leading Edge decals that were given to me.
The birds I flew were boring.  One was natural tarnished aluminum, and the other was painted with a brush and roller.

Sounds like some marginal airplanes Ernie. How was their mechanical condition? Let me know how the Valom kit stacks up as I don't want to waste any $$$ on one if it's as crappy as the old William's Bros. kit. :)
