Spitfire Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 The joys of resin kit building, nice bit of problem solving there, strangely it all seems to work out in the end. Cheers Dennis 2 1
Peterpools Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Carl Brilliant work and your fix worked perfectly. 🏆From here on there shouldn't be any major issues at all. Thinking back when I built mine (many moons ago I had the same issues and Paul sent me another wing and a few cowls and between all the parts, I found a set that worked. My Sea Fury was a lot of work but to this day, she is the center piece of my collection. 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted November 4, 2023 Author Posted November 4, 2023 Thanks folks! It took a bit of head scratching but Martin pointed me in the right direction for the solution. Peter, I suspect much of the problem is from the continued evolution of the kit. Originally it had a multi piece wing typical of an IM kit. Then that was replaced with a one piece one which in turn was superceded by one with the outer wings folded. Likewise, the cowling didn't have the exposed engine originally and then it did. So the mixing and matching may have had something to do with it. 2 1
Peterpools Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Carl Excellent points, I never considered. 2
BlrwestSiR Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Some progress on the Sea Fury. One thing that I couldn't figure out was the holes in the fuselage just aft of the exhausts. It felt weird having this see-through section. I then realized that there should be a panel to cover them up. I finally found them in the parts which strangely are not mentioned in the instructions. This made much more sense to me. Honestly it's been one of the things that made me pause on my build. Anyways, with that sorted, I sprayed an initial coat of paint on the lower sides. I used the same paint mix that @Peterpools did on his Sea Fury build which is a 1:1 ratio of Tamiya XF-19 and XF-83. I found a couple spots needing some touch-ups so did those. Then another coat of paint. I also did the upper sides at the same time. 9
Peterpools Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Carl Awesome progress on the Sea Fury - she is looking so good. My Fisher kit has been the center of my collection and display case since she was finished. NO question, when your Sea Fury crosses the finish line, she will also quickly become the Queen of your collection. 2 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 A bit more done tonight. I masked off the gear bays. Then I hit them with a coat of interior green 11
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted December 8, 2023 Administrators Posted December 8, 2023 Looking GREAT, Carl! I’m wondering if there’s more than a handful of these kits in all of North America that were built in something OTHER than an RCN scheme of some shape or form. 2 1
Peterpools Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Carl Awesome p[rogress and over the years, Sea Furies have risen to the top of my list of all-time favorite aircraft. 1 1

I’m wondering if there’s more than a handful of these kits in all of North America that were built in something OTHER than an RCN scheme of some shape or form. Ernie My Fisher Sea Fury was finished in the RCN Scheme, simply is so colorful and cool looking. My recently finished Airfix Sea Fury, wears a RN scheme, while colorful, the RCN Sea Fury is the 'stunner' of the two. If I do a third, it will most likely be in the "all gloss blue" scheme of the RAN. Just waiting for the new 32nd scale kit to come along as rumors has it 🤞 2
BlrwestSiR Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 Ernie, I think Peter hit it on the head. The RCN scheme, like a lot of early postwar paint schemes had a lot of visual presence. 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 I did some of the detail painting in the MLG bay. I then gave things a wash in brown to bring out the details a bit more. One side done compared to the other. Both sides now done. I masked and painted the side panels that are a burnt metal colour. Then I glued the engine into the cowl. The cowl has a slight warp to the open side so I've shimmed it slightly. Finally, the cowl is glued on. Just waiting for the epoxy to set. I used a 15 min so that I had time to find tune the placement. 7 2
DocRob Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Great work on your Fury, Carl. I just caught up and learn about your very effective trouble shooting. She will be a beauty. Cheers Rob 2 1
Peterpools Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Carl Awesome work and progress on your Sea Fury ... wheel by weathering looks spot on the money. I have my fingers crossed that the rumors/CAD photos of a new 32nd scale Sea Fury are true and we'll see it this coming year ... I'll be buying at least two. 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 21, 2023 Author Posted December 21, 2023 It's been busy getting ready for the holidays so I haven't had too much time to work on the Sea Fury. I did manage to get the cowl faired in. The fuselage is now just about ready for the Dark Sea Grey camo. 8
Peterpools Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Carl Looking so good and I remember doing mine and reaching this stage - what a great feeling knowing the toughest part of the build is over and the real fun of paining and final assembly is at hand. 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted January 7, 2024 Author Posted January 7, 2024 Time to get moving on this build. I broke out the masking tape and started on the upper sections. Then a coat of XF-24 for the Dark Sea Grey. Unmasked. Yup, it's nice to have things go the way you expect. 13
Peterpools Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Carl Nice crisp paint work and masking. Looking so good. 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted January 9, 2024 Author Posted January 9, 2024 The paint needed a couple touch-ups. I wasn't surprised so at the same time, I did the fit of the wingtip lights, gun barrels and pitot. For the last two, I used a set from Master. 8

Would like to see one done-up in Cuban markings!....Er, not that I like Castro....just saying, my Dad was raised in pre- Fidel Cuba. Carl, you certainly are an impressively prolific builder...Jeez! I'm impressed by your productivity... One project to the next! I've been stuck on this Andy's Sherman project..mostly..avoiding building.. due to current issues. I admire your drive and impressive skill! Thanks for posting your many ongoing projects! 3 1
BlrwestSiR Posted January 9, 2024 Author Posted January 9, 2024 Thanks Paul! I guess jumping around from project to project sort of keeps me going. It doesn't always work of course. I've got the Andy's Achilles in the stash. I'm still trying to figure out how to paint something that big before I tackle it so I can relate to your Sherman build. My folks' families were part of the Nationalist gov't that lost the Chinese civil war and moved to Taiwan as a result. That couldn't have been easy for them, same as for your Dad's family. 4
Landlubber Mike Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Looking great Carl! Love the color scheme. 1 1
