GusMac
Top surface touch-ups done and the purple laid down on the tail. Next is the black for the tip of the tail and the nose, then I can flip it and do the wheel wells, repair the canard and do any underside touch-ups. 9

GusMac
Fun hour and a bit at the bench tonight - 55 minutes of masking, 2 minutes of airbrush work and 10 minutes of clean up! 🤪 BUT the wings and canards now have their black edges. I'll get started on the gear bays tomorrow and after they're done it's just the underside touch-ups and we're onto a gloss coat and decals.

GusMac
As requested a couple of quick pics of the black detail on the leading edges, apologies for the quality of the pics. I also got the gear bays masked off and have laid down a light grey on the bottom of the wing section. That will then be masked off and the walls sprayed in dark green. The fuselage section will be aluminium but they won't be seen as the inner doors are shut with the gear down.

GusMac
Just about done on the touch-ups and other detail painting. Next step will be the gloss coat, so question for those who are regular MRP users - is it safe to use Tamiya X22 thinned with Mr Levelling as a gloss coat over MRP?
Peterpools
Gus I regularly use Tamiya X22 over MRP paints and have had no issues at all. I work building up the layers slowly until I achieved the super smooth finish I'm looking for. I thin normally 1:1 and the final coats a little extra SLT. Shouldn't be any issues at all. MY F-14 I just finished was X22 over MRP paints. 4
GusMac
Brilliant, thanks Peter. That's just what I was hoping to hear. Finished all the touch-ups and detail painting tonight, so gloss coat is next.
Peterpools
Always appreciate incredible work on a difficult build and then add in "brilliant" paint work - can't get any better.🏆 2
GusMac
First decals on. As expected with Cartograph printed ones, they went on nicely and seem to be reacting well to Microsol. I'll have a better idea in the morning but I'm happy with this start.

GusMac
Had a week away in Edinburgh for work last week, so zero bench time but finally got the decals finished and sealed in today. Made one slightly unfortunate discovery in that the decals really don't like Mr Mark Softer. The numbers on the wings weren't settling down as I liked with the Microsol so I tried the Mr Mark but it left some nasty discoloured patches which thankfully have faded with further applications of Microsol and then the gloss coat. I'm just hoping they don't reappear with the flat coat but we'll have to wait and see. Panel line wash and weathering next up. 7

BlrwestSiR
Nice progress on the Viggen Gus. Glad to hear the decal problem didn't end up permanent. Sounds like you were in Edinburgh the same time my wife Sue was. Alas she was there for a funeral so didn't get to do much sightseeing and I certainly didn't risk asking her to pop into Wonderland Toys for me. 4
DocRob
The Viggen looks fantastic with the decals on. Lately I had some decal madness, first with the carbon decals on my McLaren and later with the Wingnut AEG´s night lozenge. Like with yours, some of the decals didn´t settle perfectly with Micro Sol and I was forced to use something stronger. In his build book about the AEG, Karim Bibi mentioned to dilute the strong Mr. Mark Softener with some drops of water. I tried and it worked with my lozenge decals, also printed by Cartograph. I hope you had time to spend in beautiful Edinburgh, a place, I want to re visit sooner or later on a future Scotland trip. Cheers Rob 3

GusMac
Thanks fellas. Edinburgh was nice but we interviewed 22 candidates over 2 and a half days, so hectic and a bit of a brain fry. Still had a nice walk around in the sun and a few nice beers with some old friends, so not too shabby. And this being Scotland it then poured down with rain on the last day! Sorry to hear about the reason for your wife's trip Carl. Didn't make it as far as Wonderland this time but it's usually on my list any time I'm there. Our daughter has just moved there so I'm hoping that's an excuse to up the frequency of my trips.
Bomber_County
Stunning Gus congratulations. I haven’t dived into resin yet, not sure if I’ll be ready ever….. 4
Peterpools
Gus Looking so good and glad the decal issue is working itself out now. Mothing more frustrating then reaching this point in a build and to experience decal issues. 3

I'd always thought the same Phil but this has opened my eyes. It's been good fun and the result is very nice although there were points with the sanding and rescribing where the novelty was definitely wearing a bit thin! Given Ernie has provided me with the Iconicair Attacker and the Val with all the resin bits I think I might be getting indoctrinated. 😁

GusMac
Bench time has been a rare commodity recently but got a bit more progress done. Weapons and pylons are assembled, as are the airbrakes, and everything has been painted. The green is rather lurid but it's correct and will be a nice contrast with the splinter cammo. Next up is weathering these then flat coating everything including the main airframe. Had to order more matt varnish, so that has also contributed to the lack of progress.
GusMac
Bench time is still sporadic but I've got the main airframe flat coated and all the sundry parts painted weathered and flat coated as seen below. So, the next step is final assembly which will hopefully happen over the next week or so. I'm planning to glue the gear legs in with the 5-minute epoxy for added reassurance so that'll be a night on it's own to let everything harden up nicely.
