GusMac
Those bases do look sweet Jeroen. Did you ever make any progress with doing them commercially?
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 20, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted November 20, 2016 Those bases do look sweet Jeroen. Did you ever make any progress with doing them commercially? Hi Gus, both the printing proces and the costs of the wooden bases make it unviable... Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 20, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted November 20, 2016 Some work on the cowling panels. Replacing the latches with PE latches from the spares box. Adding riveting as per Kagero 32nd scale drawings and separating the upper and lower parts of the panels. Also added some metal mesh for in air scoop. Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 21, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2016 Thnx guys, I cut out the locks / latches from the rear cowling cover. Inserted the 6 lock housings which will later receive the 6 latches.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 23, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted November 23, 2016 Started thinning the rudder in order to recreate the damage in the linen that can be seen on the surviving example.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 27, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted November 27, 2016 Started work on the jig. The only thing I didn't feel like scratching are the little swing wheels under it. So I whipped them up in 3D and have them printed in 3D.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 29, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted November 29, 2016 Here's a look at the base. I had it printed in the same way I had the Ju88 base done. This is done by an industrial printer that can print on almost every material. I tried several calculations and tried sourcing the wooden bases for an economical friendly price, but the end conclusion is that the revenue of a base like this is unviable... Sorry. So for the time being I can only produce these for myself. Maybe some day I will find a way to produce these for anyone interested, but just not now.
GusMac
That's a pity about the bases Jeroen, but probably no surprise. At least you have something unique to display your models on
levier
It is conceivable that you could print onto a transparent film with an inkjet, and laminate that onto the base of your choice... Your base works really nicely with the restoration theme.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted December 17, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted December 17, 2016 Small progress! I did some more on scratching the jig. Trying to guess measurements from the photo's I've got and it's getting there. Pretty sturdy contraption. Also: The3d printed wheels arrived. Really crisp and hardy any 3d printing patterns to discover on the surface. I need 5 in total. 4 for th main jig and one for the small jig holding the tailwheel-fork.

Members Mikester
Splendiferous work, Jeroen! IRT the bases laser cutting should be an option too maybe? I know there are places in the US that sell trophies and plaques and I think they do that type of custom work, obviously it would be darker only since it's burned into the wood but maybe a viable option for those who want this type of display base,
