You are forgiven Anthony, but quit playing around with such beautiful complete aircraft:lol:

I only deal with crashed bits and pieces at the museum.

In the meantime the starboard wing is complete as well. With all this crosskitting testfitting is very important. One side usually fits better. But I like a challenge.

You will find them addictive. Though I am a propguy, I do have a thing for all things RAF including the Hunter, Lightning, Phantom etc.

In the meantime I have fitted a thick piece of sprue between the “shoulders” behind the intakes. This serves as a brace and keeps the sides sturdy and even. Fitting the intakes will be easy now. But first thing to do is to finish the FOD-cover.

Well, the brace has made sure both "shoulders" are now in their correct place, eliminating the mismatch on the starboard side. Yesterday I glued the join between the wings and fuselage to get a firm bond. I can now work from there. Slowly but surely.

Some more work done on the outerwings. I plan to use the Tamiya ones as they have reinforcement plates which are characteristic for the RAF version. With these testfitted you can see it’s a big model (I have big hands).

The intakes fit much better now but are not yet glued in place.


And it is also nice to stick parts together  without modification for a change, in this case the fuselage droptank.

Two types of tailplane, slotted and unslotted. Which ones to use? I tend to go for the unslotted Revell Parts as they do not need any modification.

Preparing the FOD-guards. These need to be fitted first before the intakes can.

Or I must find a way to fit the guards later, that would make life much easier( and painting too)

Slowly but surely.

I'm suitably impressed with this, Cees.  This is truly amazing, actually.  I've never been a Phantom fan, but of all of them, the Spey powered version did it the most for me.  Just so much more hulking and mean looking.

Your ability to foresee problem areas is way beyond my meager paint-by-number abilities, then to actually turn those thoughts into actions that work is simply mind boggling.

I'm still futzing around with models resembling four cornered shipping crates, and you're dealing in curvy ladies.

Yep, that sure is looking good mate.  So an FGR.2 aye?  Nice choice, What scheme have you decided on...or not yet?

I think it will be a 43 Squadron aircraft as I very much like the black and white chequers Next to the fuselageroundel. But there are others that are equally interesting.

Just thought of a solution for the FOD-covers. I will glue the ones as shown in place and they can serve as a base for new ones made from thin plasticard. That way I can fit the intakes and then the filling frenzy can begin.

Great choice of 43 squadron Cees. The Fighting Cocks were stationed at Leuchars in the 70s when I grew up just across the river and my uncle was stationed there. Saw the aircraft from 43 & 111 squadrons on a daily basis.

I really hope HKM do release their promised kit as I'd love to build one but I don't have the skill set to follow your example. :thumbsup2:

Thats a great idea!  Then you can really get in and sort those intakes out.

Love 43 too,  I'm doing the CO's aircraft in the overall greys and checkers on the fin only

Man that looks good, those intakes look spot on size wise now...really well done!

I just checked for you, I am sorry, no there are only the smaller Low-Viz ones that I will be using....

Wedgy time.

Destruction before reconstruction. In order to get the mismatch as minimal as possible I had to cut out again the earlier filled joins on top of the fuselage. A wedge forced the side out just enough for a good transition. The wedges were then glued. This is a better option than heavy sanding at the front which would also destroy the panellines. Miliput will fill the irregularities.

Some more work being done.

 I saved the sawn off bits from the Revell wing as at the time I thought they might be useful later They are, as the gaping hole between fuselage and wing can be plugged. The remaining gaps will be filled with Miliput. I am pleased how this turned out. Also finished the Revell tailhook as the Tamiya one is too short.

Hmm, that's interesting.  I wasnt aware the Tamiya hook was too short?  Is it too short for the Revell kit, or actually too short?  I must look into this.  

Brilliant stuff cees, the puzzle (literally) is coming together....love it

Thanks chaps,

In the meantime I have adapted the Tamiya flaps to fit the Revell wing. This makes for a less static model.

Also preparing for a major filling session and marking out the areas.
