Tamiya P-51D, easy bake & shake.

Recommended Posts

Still plugging away, a little each day. I have the cockpit mostly done, still debating whether I will use a pilot, I have test fit a Hasegawa P-40 pilot since they are dressed in lighter pacific gear. If I don’t use a pilot, then I will be adding a Look IP and seatbelts. I didn’t realize just how bad the kit panel was. Going to start the weathering on the engine next, in prep for closing up the fuselage.

The kit IP looks a bit sparse. Maybe check out one of the Yahu ones too?

It’s bizarre that Tamiya they would not want to make the IP sing, I bought a Yahu for the Mosquito when I get around to it, no idea how you use the Yahu as there no instructions.........

Very nice! That's the first Look IP I've seen in use. Definitely an improvement.

The Corsair was crap, but this P-51 panel is unreal, even the individual toggles show up.

A little more assembly tonight after dinner. I still don’t have all the gear well parts weathered yet, that’s why some are bright yellow. Magnets are not installed in the cowl panels yet, but the fit so far has been perfect. The only small issue I had was my fault, the right coolant line was about 1/2 mm too short, but I was able to grip it with needle nose pliers and “stretch it a bit.

Lovely internal work and like Gaz mentioned, those Ammo belts look the part. The pre painted Aluminium forces you to alter the painting process with the masking work to be done at an earlier stage, where normally overspray would not be an issue, but hey, no risk of paint lifting, I guess ;).

Cheers Rob
