  1. Same here...filled a tray with cut off parts. Now we're on the subject...I noticed the G-10 kit only has the metal treaded foot board, while the G-6(early/late) kit also had the late war wooden foot board. The later seems more logical, but I'm not sure. I can scavenge it from another G-6 kit when needed. Mike will know...waiting for his verdict btw I'll do the "yellow 6", Mike already did the "blue 1"
  2. ouch! I don't think you can bend resin enough to force it in place. Maybe cut the pipe...dril a hole in both ends...insert a brass rod and glue the rod in place when the part meets the side. Restore pipe with putty. Hope this makes sense. Black line is the cut...green line the brass rod. Good luck
  3. Opened the boxes of the Brewster Buffalo, the 109 E-3 and the 110D-3, but couldn't make up my mind, so I'll start a G-10 instead Already have both Barracuda decal sets and HGW seat belts....and I expect to receive he Barracuda prop this week. That's all I'll use. Will scratch build some missing details, but nothing exciting. Leaning towards one of the many JG (JGr) 300 schemes...nice looking fuselage band. Will make up my mind soon. I'll try to make it some sort of a speed build...want to finish it before I start the GB Spit I won't bore you all to death with many updates, because I don't want to be responsible for causing a 109 allergy. Mike and Matt review bookmarked...so here I go (again).
  4. Great idea to put it on a flatbed car. How to make a cigar look good...you nailed it!
  5. Revell Bf 109G-6 (early/late) kit Kagero decals, Eduard Brassin undercarriage and exhaust, HGW seatbelts. Enjoyed building this. It's not the high standard most of you can produce, but I'm still pleased with the result. I learned a lot and hopefully my next build will be better. Most pleased with what the preshading did...specially the underside. I'm not overly happy with the darker shades on the top side. Even though the Kagero book showed a rather dark camo, I maybe overdid it. Too dark to my liking anyway. Imho the Revell kit is very nice. Only dislike the prop and spinner. Barracuda props for future 109s for sure. I don't regret using the Eduard Brassin exhaust and undercarriage, both very nice, but I can do without them. Maybe better to say...I'm not worth them. I build to make a kit look "pleasing to the eye" not to show large photos of small details. My result is simply not good enough for that and it's not something I strife to reach. I admire what you guys do though. Thanks to Mike and Matt....their kit review helped me a lot. Thanks to others for their nice comments and tips. .

Now I go tidy my desk...it's a shameful mess Thinking about what to build next. It's tempting to start another 109, but I'm leaning towards the Brewster Buffalo.
  7. Not spectacular, but I love this stuff. I stick small parts on sticks with it, mask camo schemes with it and what more. Hard to get overhere...a local office/book shop always had it, but not anymore... "Can I have some Blu Tack please?" "What?" "Blu Tack....." "What's that?" "Sticky blue stuff....you always had it" "New owner...we don't have that and never heard of it" "Oh my!" Internet is my friend
  8. Wow! That's exactly what I'm looking for....awesome! Thanks a lot!
  9. Oh darn! I shoulda kept my mouth shut and started a small after market business Feels a bit like the laminated wooden prop painting tool I invented a few years ago...post it somewhere and someone starts to sell it soon after Ah well, such is life
  10. Ah, ok, thanks a lot. I'll use it for my completely rediculous stash of 1/48 WWI biplanes. ...when I can find it
  11. Thanks, I must have a spool of the Ushi wire somewhere, but no clue where I put it...can't find it. It will pop up again I guess ...but isn't that basicly Ez line? The crumbling (original) Ez line scared me. does the stuff dry out over time? Not looking forward to have to redo the rigging of finished models sooner or later
  12. Rigging...one of the things that caused me some headaches. The rigging itself, but also the material. Always used fishing line (monofilament) for this, but it always looks like...what it is...a fishing line So there's Ez line, but even before I used it...it lost it's strenght. When I pulled it just a bit...the stuff fell apart. I don't dare to use this...besides...I don't like the flatness of it. Tried Albion Alloys thin steel wire, but I'm too clumsy to make that look good. So...back to where I came from...fishing line. This morning, after some coffee I had a brain wave....try pigments! To make it adhere better...I pulled the line over a fine sanding stick a few times. Dipped my thumb and index finger in a mixture of smoke black and dark steel pigment powder...a drop of liquid plastic cement (I used Revell) on each finger. Pulled the line between both fingers a few times. And this is the result.... it's a 0.12mm thick line. The line on top is after...on the bottom is before. Pretty happy with the result and it was 5 minutes work. Cleaning my fingers took much longer
  13. Hi guys, Since I have the Eduard Brassin sets for both, I'm looking for matching decal sets to actually build those 109s. So far I have only one possible option....the Karl Heinz Rammelt G6 equipped with gunpods. Udine, Italy, december 1943. Found in the Osprey Viermot Aces book. I can use the Revell decals for this one. Although it's a pretty neat scheme, I'm looking for something less beaten to death. Also eager to build one with the Wfr. Gr 21 rockets. Are there any decal sets available? I searched for them, but no luck so far. Thanks, Rob
  14. Not finished, but on my way! Only the antennas, the wires and the last few stencils to go. I'll do the weathering with pigments after the varnish. Today I ordered a whole bunch of Barracuda 109 props and beules for my future builds. I can live with the Revell exhaust and undercarriage. The Brassin I used now is neat, but I'll survive without them. The Revell prop and spinner I really dont like. Note to self....learn to keep my work space more tidy.
  15. Two of them in my stash (together with both Barracuda decal sets), so...bookmarked this review. Will help me a lot Thanks guys.
  16. @Jeroen. No, I didn't...Klear is still one of those mystical newish inventions I still have to try. Until then, I mask the decals and airbrush again... or cut them to the very edge before I apply them. I started building models long before Woodstock, but I quit shortly after Peter Gabriel left Genesis. Still some catching up to do...and I'm a slow learner. I try my best to make a model look okey but I don't seek the level of perfection I see here more often then not. But...slowly learning. like preshading.... Thanks to forums like this
  17. I used Vallejo airbrush cleaner until recently...switched to Tickopur R33....fantastic stuff and much cheaper ( 5 to 10% will do). (I use acrylics only)
  18. ty..just airbrushed the space between the white of the top wing decals to get rid of the silvering there. I use the Tamiya (a spin off....no name brand....much cheaper) tape for masking decals. Before I apply the tape I stick it to the palm of my hand a few times. Will make it less sticky, so I won't peel off the decal when I remove it afterwards. (done that before...trial and error thing) The decals are a mix of Revell, Kagero, Barracuda and TechMod. I wasn't too happy about it all after I did the two tone mottling. It all looked very dark and moody, but I followed the Kagero scheme. The decals make a big dif (phew!). The guy who sprayed this plane had plenty of paint and he made sure to use it all. He covered (completely or partly) many of the stencil markings, part of the national markings on the sides and the lower part of the fuselage band. Luckily the fuselage band, the blue 11 and wave gives it a nice look. Still...I won't choose such a dark scheme for my next 109 Next will be: more decals, landing gear and the few missing bits and bobs. After that...some touch up work, rigging and weathering. One week...max! Funny...it was 3 days work from where I left it a year ago to where I am now. More on sunday
  19. And...1 year later Got side tracked "a bit", but finally finishing the 109 slammed on most of the paint, some of the decals...will be done within a week now....honestly! Read about the Spit GB, since I just received the Revell MkII, I guess that will be the next one. Hope it won't take me another year to finish that one btw...is there an after market spit prop for that kit? The Revell Spit prop looks very wrong imho
  20. Yesterday I visited the Aviation Megastore in Aalsmeer to pick up the Brassin 109 gun pods... And came home with....Brassin gun pods for 109, Tauro stencil decals for 109/110 (need them ffor my Dragon 110), Techmod swastikas, more HGW seatbelts, and... A Special Hobby Brewster Buffalo with Dutch (East Indies) decals. Also stumbled upon Luuk Boerman from Dutch Decal, really nice bloke...tremendous knowledge. The Aviation Megastore is such a candy shop, but I was strong...didn't buy the HPH Me 410 and I resisted buying a Brassin 109 engine. Was tempted to buy a Hasegawa Stuka for the Junkers GB, but when I checked several boxes....the decals were old and yellow. Decided not to buy one.
  21. On this D9 I used a marker pen to draw the panel lines. Made this kit for someone on request and it got me back in the modelling saddle
