John Nice choice ... terrific D Day markings

John Amazing progress - so what's on your agenda while you are waiting for the Victor nose and wing intake set?

Mike For cleaning out my air brush after a session I use straight lacquer thinner from the hardware store. The only exception is when I shoot Model Air or Model Color, I use both their thinner and air brush cleaner as everything turns to goo in the AB. For thinning my paints, I use mostly Mr Color Self Leveling Thinner or the paint manufactures thinner when shooting acrylics.

kev Thanks for posting - absolutely amazing. Many years ago when I was on the IPMS contest circuit, a lady by the name of Moreta Johnson (hope I got it correct) entered the most amazing shadow box dioramas and they were always my favorite entries at those contests.

Phil Just to stray off topic a bit, you're going to love building the Tamiya Mossie: she and my Fisher Sea Fury are the Queens of my model display case. Just go slow, follow the instructions and you will have a gem at the end of your build. The Mossie isn't a difficult kit, just requires following the instructions and enjoying the journey. Looking forward to following your build and having a front row seat.

Very nice work on the seat. Keeps bringing back memories. -
Mark Amazing detail work and the CF looks perfect.

John Surely look as if Kev came to the rescue and you didn't lose any parts. Just glad after all the crawling around on your hands and knees, you could still get up (there are days I can't) π

Jeroen Some mighty delicate work and looking so good.

Oliver remarkable work, just remarkable and right with Martin as well. Look forward to every update as it's a treat and an education in modeling.

Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa
Peterpools replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Ron and agree 100%. Parts of the build have been enjoyable and fun and some frustrating but, in the end, with some extra care and patience, she is looking like a true Spit. Looking forward to building a few more of the newer Revell kits, especially the Hurricane when it actually makes an appearance here in the states. Revell's newer kits seem to have overcome a lot of the issues I've done battle with, instructions, molding and research. Hopefully this will continue as kits in general are skyrocketing in price and Revell is a welcome player to help bring the cost of the hobby back down to a more manageable level. -
Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa
Peterpools replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thank You Jeff, very much appreciated. Yes, the Revell Spit leans more towards old school thenthe high tech kits of today and requires a lot of cleanup work, fussing, fitting and a nice amount of expensive AM. A lot is enjoyable and some frustrating. To be honest, if there was a high tech kit of the Mk IIa available such as from Tamiya, ZM or Kotare, I would easily have jumped on it and preferred it over the Revell kit. I am going to be buying a few more Revell kits, as I'm eagerly waiting for the Hurricane to show up in the States. -
Right with Gaz and martin, beautiful work.

Gaz Looking so good. Nice going on your work around for the stanchions, as they look fantastic. For hand painting I've pretty much settled on using both Tamiya acrylics thinned with X-20A and Model Air, straight from the bottle. I try to avoid using my good brushes with lacquer paints as they destroy the bristles and tips. As I get ready to start the Lancaster, I've purchased new brushes and there is an incredible amount of detailing painting to be done.

Kev Brilliant! Absolutely beautiful work and the details are everywhere you look.

Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa
Peterpools replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Gaz Much appreciated and absolutely true. Revell is a lot less expensive to purchase but requires a lot more AM and a ton more work in clean up and fit - not to mention many more hours of frustrations and searching for parts on the sprues. -
John Oh no, why doesn't things just go smoothly? Any chance ICM have customer service ? Fingers crossed you find the missing part in the morning. π€

Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa
Peterpools replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Carl. This afternoon, I primed the major seams and found a few spots that need a bit of TLC and once that's done, add the glass and head for the paint shop and priming. You just might be right about Roy having several molds for the AM parts as in the past, all his resin was near perfect. -
Jeroen Some mighty nice PE work
-
John Looking forward to both builds, especially the Hasegawa Typhoon.
-
Mark That some 'steal' for sure and I'm right with Carl.
-
Rob WOW, amazing work and can't wait to see these assembly with primer and paint. Agreed that railing on the 3D printed guns look just fine and no need to replace them with PE.

John Now sure is the case for us all and a shrinking stash at our age, is something we should be thinking about. I'm just as guilty.
