  1. Harv Years of negotiations and I'm a very lucky guy as my wife Diane has never, ever said no. When we were first married in 1970 and after we got settled, I bought my airplane - still don't know why she said yes but she always does. .
  2. Anyone considering the new Airfix 1/24 Spit? Too big for me and I'm waiting for the Kotare Spit.
  3. I'm pretty lucky in that my studio and hobby room are in the house and I have my paint booth in there as well. When I air brush, the paint booth is ducted to the outside through the window. When done, all comes in - takes a bit of work to set up and break down but for me, it works well and keeps peace in the house.
  4. Chris The cammo pattern on the P-40 is one thing but what is going to add to the complexity is all the lumps and bumps that I need to go over. One such area are the machine gun fairings on top of the nose - the cammo line of brown and green goes right over them. Surely is going to be a lot of fun Yup, an all black Cat - perfect paint scheme for sure.
  5. Thanks Rob Thanks for the mini tutorial - some to try not to far down the road
  6. Thanks Chris, very much appreciated. I'm pretty sure at this stage, I'm going to keep working on the P-40 and finish it and then do my GB entry. Just seems the mojo is working in high gear and painting the "Big Bird" is going to take time and all my attention. I'm planning on doing the cammo work as a combination of masks and free hand and normally, it goes pretty slowly.
  7. Rob Great save and so glad you took a deep breath and a long-needed break. A while back, I had experienced the same with my F4B Phantom and you had the same on the kit you were building as well. Geez, I wish I could remember which kit it was. I'm starting to think other then gluing the windscreens in place, paint the balance of the cockpit glass off the model, when using solvent paints. I don't think water based paints would exhibit these issues. I'm also thinking Gaz is onto something as well. Gear looks brilliants as does the underside weathering.
  8. Harv Good point, I never thought of that. Where do you do your air brush work?
  9. Agreed, it's a lot of extra work fixing what 'should have been done' by Revell
  10. Harv Nice start on your Desert Spit. With the forecasted weather, you might be in for a good spell and loads of bench time
  11. Mark Awesome progress - looking mighty good. I hope you're going to finish Arocs as showroom new. Just love well maintained and good looking trucks.
  12. Thanks Hubert I'm starting to lean Oliver's and your way and finish the P-40 first or at least when letting paint and decals dry. do some preliminary work on the Revell/Monogram Kingfisher and then back to the P-40. Never thought that much about the radiators as which style/angle of the grill was most efficient but rather how the design lent itself to being a canvas for painters. 😉
  13. Martin Your Corsair surely has seen its share of tropical weather and combat. Looking well-worn for sure. Some mighty nice weathering
  14. Scott Bought one a few months a ago and all I've managed to do so far is watch a few videos on how to use it. Quality doesn't cone close and I'm hoping to finally get it into action over the winter months building sessions. Looks like my next purchase will be the Locartor. - should have bought both together.
  15. Dennis Absolutely stellar work on your Spit IX - gorgeous work and finish
  16. I've never had any issues with Tamiya Gloss Black Lacquer or Mr Color Gloss Black Lacquer. Both dry quite quickly and smooth as silk. I've also tried a number of the Gloss Blacks from the NMF ranges and wasn't happy with them. In the past, before Tamiya came out with their lacquer range, I use to use Tamiya Gloss Black with good results - but just dries as bit oo thick.
  17. Did I miss something and am taking this too literally? Kotare 1:32 Spitfire will only be available in Feb/March. 2023 (but, yes its a 2021 announcement) I've tried numerous times to pre-order the Spitfire on Kotare's website (including yesterday) and my order will just not go through. I've contacted Kotare and they said there are certain address, that NZ postal doesn't recognize and that is the reason my order won't go through (I live on Long Island, New York) and I would need to wait for the kit to be released. Just not crazy about that, as I could miss out. Any suggestions on US venders where I can pre-order the kit? Much appreciated
  18. Thanks Ernie and all is well. As soon as you started working your magic, the missing part appeared out of no where
  19. Of course, her gift to you next year is going to be even better 🎅
  20. I'm waiting for a B-47, just a gorgeous airplane along with the B-58. Waiting for their Phantom and Mystere as well.
  21. Rob Weathering is looking so go and so realistic. Like Gaz, I've never tried sing pencils and have been thinking of giving them a try.
  22. Harv Right with you and these days, I like to do my builds with either no engines, or them just closed up.
