  1. Phil These days I'm much closer to your production then a tenth of John's amazing pace.
  2. Rob Nice going on the chipping and the various layers of paint under the topcoat comes through with flying colors.
  3. John Invasion stripes look so good and acrylic paints no less. I'm betting the wing/fuselage seam is perfect, which allows you to paint the wings off the fuselage. I tried it just once and for me, it wasn't a good decision. Earlier this year I started investing in Mig and Model Air paints again, as I decided to start breaking away from solvent based paints for health reasons. Very early this morning I was cleaning up some Mr Surfacer on the P-40 with Mr Color Self Leveling Thinner as always and the smell for the first time got to me. Not a smart move on my part, I quickly put on my respirator and opened the windows (it was 5:30 AM) and aired out the room for a good hour. Even though I'm heavily invested in MRP and Mr Color Lacquers, I'm for the most part going to stop using them and go back to my original plan of 100% acrylics and Ammo by Mig being my main pain as it is supposed to be 100% safe to use. I'm sure all the other acrylic/water based paints are close in safety.
  4. Right with Harv, looking might good and a ton of hard work to go.
  5. Chris Holy Smokes ... One lucky guy and the scenery' is spectacular. I'm i agreement that the left elevator seems to be a bit darker in tone but since it doesn't have the cammo, it appears to have been a replacement from another Eagle. I'm a F-35 guy and just love the Lightning. Thanks for posting
  6. Gaz As always - some mighty fine weathering and you're so right, the crew does obscure most the weathered details but will look so good.
  7. Paul Nice supply of Tamiya goodies - you just never can have enough.
  8. Scott When I painted the wheels and tires on my 1/144 Embraer 190 for the last GB, I painted them both ways. I just went super slow and there were some capillary runs to clean up but it went pretty well. Of course, I think I only had six sets to do, way less then C17 has.
  9. John Sounds good but for me, always needing a diet, I can't handle 'shake and bake' as it has too many calories🙃
  10. Mark Looking good and making some mighty nice progress
  11. Chris No way, your work is first class and beautifully built.
  12. Phil Looking good in her primer cote and now that you included the alligator clip, her small size really shows.
  13. Ernie Good luck with the soldering. In my model railroading days, I had to do a lot of desoldering and found that using a 'desoldering' strip of mesh helped a lot. Of course there is a proper name, which for the life of me, I can't remember. Good luck and fingers crossed 🤞
  14. John Looking so good and every build, you just keep amazing me at your ever-increasing speed and yet, your high level of work never varies.
  15. Much appreciated Chris Hard to believe I kept on going when I saw the alignment issues - I'm taking a senior moment and a mulligan all rolled into one on it. The repairs are done and even with the missing/lost left hand side teardrop window, I'm pushing onto the priming and painting. I'm finishing the P-40 no matter what, as it's now a test of wills.
  16. Thanks Gaz The repairs and fix at times were a bit 'shaky' but they are done. Early this morning, I scribed the panel line into the Milliput and it seemed to work. Scribing is my least favorite part of any build, as my skills in that area are close to terrible. But it's done now and as good as I can get. Guess I won't know how I did until after priming later this week.
  17. Thanks Chris I'm not sure who I purchased the kit from, either Sprue Brothers or Scale Hobbyist. I'll check my accounts and see if I can find the order. Greatly appreciate the links and there was a contact/email address. I already sent them an email and see what happens. I do find it hard to believe that for a kit costing so much ($175) and a company whose kits are all on the expensive side, doesn't have a customer service department and a part replacement form included in their kits as both Tamiya and ZM do. Whether they replace the kit part or fret and depending on the cost, I doubt I will buy another GWH kit as I find this a poor business practice. I've needed to replace both kit parts and decals sheets on Tamiya kits and either a phone call or email and in less then two weeks, the replacement parts were in my mailbox. Same with ZM and the missing part was sent from Volks here in the states. See what happens and gain, thanks so much for your help.
  18. Thanks Paul I'm still looking and will also continue to finish the kit as the missing part is the left side Tear Drop window. If all else fails, I'll try scratch the clear part out as a mirror image of the other side.
  19. Disaster strikes again and the P-40 just won't give in. I lost one of the Tear Drop Windows while applying the masks and have no way of contacting GWH in the US. Nothing is listed in the kit on how to replace a lost or damaged part. Does anyone have their email address?🤞 This is turning into a fight to the last drop of glue and I'm not giving in. Much appreciated Peter
  20. Thanks Rob You're right on the money and I'm hoping I've finally over the hump of all the corrections, redo's and fixes. I know the P-40 looks still pretty dirty from the black primer but my plans are to finish her as always. All the paints are sitting on the work bench ready to go.
  21. Thanks Harv, getting there and not to far away from a full primer cote and the spray booth... 🤞
  22. RIP as you fly west. Another of the Greatest Generation is gone.
  23. Brad You pretty much hit it right on the head in my book. Kits that create an aura of being over engineered, lots of hidden details, being a 'tough build', fit issues and expensive, just don't seem to have much build presence of builds online. I know I've complained a lot and a good deal and a healthy portion of the of the problems were self-inflicted as a result of sloppy fitting parts and unclear instructions. The P-40 would have been a much better kit with a more conventional approach compared as Tamiya, with both ranges are in the same price range.
  24. Ernie Nice work on the first of twelve PE parts for the dive brakes - surely need nerves of steel and a mighty steady hand.
