  1. Thanks Harv Chipping away slowly at the build and each assembly; step by step. Finally have the fuselage glued up, another update by this weekend and moving onto the Big P&W Radial Peter
  2. Jeroen Aces on a fantastic cammo paint finish Keep ‘em comin Peter
  3. John Looking mighty good and can’t wait to see some ‘light’ weathering adding the miles and wear on. Keep ‘em comin Peter
  4. Ernie Sure is looking mighty good. Keep us up to date and loads of photos Peter
  5. Gaz An alternate method, which I might add is a pain to do but the results are bomb proof. Back in the day we use to dissolve good old sprue in a bottle of Testor’s Liquid Cement until you ended up with a milky paste (it takes a few days). My favorite pladtic to use is Hadagawa’s as it dissolves well and sands well. The goop is then carfully applied over the rivets, gaps or whatever and then left to thoroughly dry. It’s important the fill the rivets the getting thevright consistency takes practice and some luck. Once dry, it's sanding time but when your done, all the rivets are filled solid with plastic. I’ve never attemped to do all the rivets on a model as it’s a daunting task for sure but riveting now becomes the same as riveting on smooth plastic. I still keep a bottle on the bench and use it from time to time as a filler where strength is needed. Peter
  6. Pete The Mossie was a super build but in IMPS contest, first cuts are always made on the basis of the basic build steps. Detailing and all the extra hard work isn't taken into the judging until round two. I just don't see how the judges could have given equal time to each entry in the first round of cuts and then the balance and have been done so fast. I would still give the contest one more shot with the Mossie and I'm sure the results will be different Peter
  7. Thanks Ernie .. made it very easy not to see it Peter
  8. Pete Poor judging at it's best. So if I understand this, two judges judged all the various aircraft scale categories? That's insane! How could they possibly do their job and CAREFULLY judge each aircraft to the same level and degree? In my way of thinking : they can't. Judges need to take the time necessary to thoroughly judge each entry to the same degree and fairness and it seems that was not done. I normally chalk it off to the best models on the table win but in this case, speed seemed to be the determining issue. I wonder if the contest just didn't have enough judges, as two is odd in itself or the judges just wanted to get the job done? I just saw the photograph of the contest table and while not a lot of aircraft models, that amount of entries correctly judge should have taken 1-1.5 hours at a minimum. Ten minutes per entry isn't a lot of time and times seven entries that's 70 minutes right there! Thank you for posting the photo as it does answer some of my judging thoughts. May I suggest if there is another contest up around your way, enter and now with the wheel squared away, the results should be very much different. Peter
  9. Jeroen Cammo looks fantastic - just lov'in it Keep 'em comin Peter
  10. Much appreciated Phil and glad you're along for the journey. Speed doesn't count - joust enjoyment and fun. Any chance of posting a few photos of your Corsair, would love to see them? Peter
  11. Rob Much appreciated the very kind words and those Brassin cockpits are truly amazing. Thank you for the link to your photos as they will come in very handy Peter
  12. Carl Much appreciated and it does feel so good that the old juices are flowing and the mojo is finally back Peter
  13. Thanks Again Frank for pointing out my blunder and saving me a bunch of time fixing it a bit later on. I sure I would have known something was wrong when I was up to gluing the fuselage together and that pesky assembly was on the wrong side of the sheetmetal Peter
  14. Thanks John Been putting in the bench time as the fun and joy is back - Corrected my little blunder and the fuselage is now glued up and drying. What a dream. Checking in on your engine build as I'm about to start my Big P&W and need to see how you did yours. Peter
  15. MIke Holy Cow, what a start. The front office and engine/prop look brilliant Keep 'em comin Peter
  16. Pete Exactly the same reason as Jeff why I stopped entering contests years ago and the judging doesn't reflect the quality and level of work that has gone into your Mossie. I don't want to start the same old discussion on good judging and bad judging, as I've served as a judge a zillion times, been my clubs Contest Chairman, a Regional Contest Chairman and a National Contest Chairman back in the day. What bothers me the most is how quickly they dismissed your Mossie and did the judging. May I ask how many entries there were and your opinion on those entries as well. Judging normally always starts out looking for building faults and errors and then moves onto the work done. To dismiss the Mossie on the wheel alignment and nothing else, that would mean all the the entries had no building flaws at all. Since I wasn't there, I would welcome your opinion on the other work, as your building skills easily demonstrate to knowledge and skill level. In my book, one awesome build Peter
  17. Welcome aboard and agreed, the Gang here on LSM are outstanding builder and I have learned much from. Looking forward to following your Recon Phantom - surely is going to be a great project. Keep ‘em comin Peter
