Details... Details... and more scrubby details... There are things oils do better than enamels... like blend in. After building the ZM 109 and realizing that no pilot can climb on top of neatly laid and crossed seatbelts, I decided to make stubs that are mostly hidden inside the aircraft body. I cheated... I have no idea what color or shape IJA seatbelts would be... so I faked it with HGW fabric belts. Adding the dual ignition wires for the Ha-109 radial engine was a challenge. This is actually something I've never really had to do before. Added the breech ends of the Ho-103 machine guns. I cut off the barrels for later use. No point in keeping them there... you can't see them anyway. -
Devil 505 - "Feet wet", Trumpeter A-6A

I was impressed by the A-6 when I saw them in El Toro. At that time, the F-18 was just coming in. -

Looking forward to this one. Love the PBY. -
Nice start! and glad to see another S-boat on the slips.

Damn... a tool chest to hold sprues....

This should be interesting. When I was a kid, I built a 1/72 scale Kingfisher. But only had one color of blue paint. It was horrible.

My choice for the GB is this ancient... Well, almost as old as I am... S-boat kit. I'll do what I can to improve it without breaking the bank.

heh, heh... I didn't say to clog up my thread. Start your own. Wood work? Do explain, please. Rough carpentry? Sculpture? Chain saw sculpture? High quality furniture? -

Thank you, Kevin! That's a great completion rate. You should show us some pics. I don't know if I'll ever fully retire. Once the mortgage is paid off, I'll drop a few hours. But I don't want to be on a fixed income until I really need to not work. -

Well... What I think really isn't important. But I'll answer anyway. A 1/350 scale warship is a long undertaking if you have brass details to add. I considered SMS Seydlitz and Graf Spee... both have HUGE detailing sets in brass. Steampunk... not really my thing and looks like a simple kit. And a schnellboot... well, I want the later classes to build eventually too. I'll have to see what I can find from CMK. I have no familiarity with them.

Happy New Year GB everyone! A long, long... long time ago I saw this kit sitting on the shelves at our local Sears and Roebuck store. I was 12 or 13, I can't remember which and when I saw it I knew I had to have it. But money was hard to come by. There were only so many discarded cans and bottles to find, and there was stiff competition for lawn mowing. And I only had one of those old fashioned, human powered cylinder bladed mowers while other kids had Briggs and Stratton to help them. Allowance? Hah. Anyway... it was this one... Bought used last year I may still order some stuff for it. I'd like a bit more crew.

Hi Friends! 2022 was the first full year where my dicta of a figure with every kit was enforced. Because there aren't so many... I'll post two pics of each. First was the 1/48 scale Dragon Me-110D1 that I kit-bashed into a D2. Next up was this diminutive Revell Albatros D.III of Werner Voss in 1/72 scale for the group build of a local club. Adding shadows and shape to the all-white tail was a primary goal of the build. On this occasion I needed more figures than I really wanted to build and paint to tell the story. It was my first time trying to paint camouflage uniforms. They didn't quite end up as planned... but I can live with it for a first effort. I like clunky looking armor. And the Jagdpanzer IV 70(A) has always been a favorite. There was a short period of time where red-brown primer was dictated as the base coat... so I took advantage to make a 'red' tank. I take a month off for holidays every winter here in Australia, and I gave myself only that one month to build a complete diorama encompassing AFV Club's LeFH 18 105mm howitzer. Most of the crew is from Tamiya's Winter Assault set. As an ex-artilleryman, I found it easy to convert their stooping figures into busy artillerymen. The only figure not stooping was originally a figure of Rommel. Every once in a while I get the urge to cover a model in aluminum foil. This time, I chose Tamiya's MiG-15bis. Tamiya also supplied the Russian jeep with driver. Finding a Russian pilot of Korean War vintage was a bit difficult. I was to discover while painting his face that he suffered from a cleft palate. My final completion of the year was Zoukei Moura's brand new Bf 109G-14. Not content to be just another guy building Hartmann's machine, I chose a colorful scheme from JG 11. Amazingly enough... I think my scratch-built lawn chair drew as many comments as did the model and figures. Thank you for looking, and have a happy new year!
