Ju88G1 Mistel 2 "Red 12", 6./KG200

Mr. Hatch, any feedback? -
The landing flaps on the Hasegwa kit are weak in detail and nasty sink marks. Using Eduard PE FW190 A8 Landing Flaps I get to work. Thinking in 3D is required when bending these. PE folding tool a must. Whew! Internal detail above has to be removed. Bottom shows all clean. Test fit looks good. Kit part compare to Eduard PE. This was tricky to bend and shape. Patience and the right tools required. Major work done. Will add hinges later during build as test fitting will be required. This was time consuming. Worth the effort? Yes, am happy with the detail.

Pending how I survive my FW190C resin conversion this will be my most complex and daunting conversion. I ask myself occasionally, "do a shake 'n bake kit sometime". I must have issues as cutting resin and modifying things. Is it the challenge? Is it therapeutic? Who knows. It is what it is, I seem to be following a pattern. Ju88 G1 Mistel 2 The FW190A8 is in the books here is Finished Work link: FW190A8, KG200. WIP link: FW190A8, KG200. My inspiration for this build can be blamed on one person. Early 2011 I am making plans to return to my childhood hobby. Yes, this is a familiar story for many of us. Before buying anything I spend several months mining the internet to collect data on the current state of scale modeling. I discovered SPAR, LSP, Model Madness, ARC, HS and I poured over anything I found interesting. Then I latched on to Doogs' and followed his early efforts, F4F in kid colors and his P51B. Through the magic of technology and asking many questions I ramped up to dive in. I kept returning to a Ju88 Mistel 2 build on LSP, the blame game goes to you Mr. Hatch. Love the scheme and the history of Mistels. I found myself digging all kinds of research on German Composite planes. Came very close to buying a 1:48 Mistel kit. Nope, I'm all about 1:32. So here goes. Revell's Ju88A 1 will be my donor kit. I secured 4 of these kits at Squadron's Black Friday sale in 2012. Less than $20 a kit this is a great value. I'm all about research. Not only a great read but lots of data on the Mistel series. AIMS Mistel 2 Conversion came with a nice decal sheet. Markings for the FW190 (see my FW190 WIP) included and markings for a Ju88 G1, yes I have the G1 conversion in my stash. AIMS conversion includes Warhead, Rudder, Wing Extension, BMW801 Engines, Ailerons, Struts for FW190 mount and Photo Etch. There is a Funkgerät DF with a clear vac-u-form spine. This may be omitted as I am questioning whether this was removed for the Mistel aircraft. Photographs/profiles/drawings of "Red 12" and other Ju88 G1 Mistel planes do not show a DF system. James, feel free to comment on this. I already started cleaning the engine parts. Then paused when the Ju GB was announced. Aftermarket: MDC Bomb Racks, AIres Wheelset, G Factor Brass Landing Gear (highly recommended as this bird will be heavy) and CMK 900L Drop Tanks. #2 - Posted 02 April 2014 - 10:56 AM (IP: 71.191.249.198) Grant, efrick and repeater like this Like This

1:32 Hasegawa P47D "Slick Chick"
rkranias replied to rkranias's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Good point, albeit a PW2800 experten I am not. 2 ignition wires to each cylinder accomplished. Hasegawa's ignition ring configuration does not make sense, even to a layman like me. Eduards PE ignition wires do not line up the Hasegawa's ignition ring. Further, observing the AIres PW2800 "Early" proves quite a difference to the Hasegawa ignition ring. Since I am not building a plane for the NASM I will settle for the FICE approach.- 118 replies

Paul - I use these Micro Drill bits. These are made in Germany and the quality is far superior than the ones mfg in China. I cannot say enough positive things about these as they have allowed me to take my scratch building to a different level. It's all about control and these bits offer you delicate and concise control. I used a .30mm bit to drill holes on the Ignition Ring and Cylinders. Contact Allan Sidney @ allansid@alo.com Allan is based in UK. Introductory sets are about £30.00 I got this 50 bit set with a nice range of .30mm to 1.0mm sizes. This size seems to work best for me, I am all about 1/32 aircraft. However, Allan will make up a custom set for you. Since I got these I have yet to use my pin vice. These are great as using your fingers gives you exceptional control and feel for the work you are doing. These are used in the aerospace and electronics industry and are made in Germany and not the Carbide ones made in China. I just love these and highly recommend them. They are not bullet proof as care must be taken when using the fine sizes. I did break a .30mm and .45mm. Credit to the product it was my clumsiness which caused the breakage. Steady hand is required. Noting, I was able to drill out a 1/32 scale pitot tube and underwing antenna of my Bf109 to replace with wire. Not possible with a pin vice. Allan was great to work with. He asked good questions about my needs and was most prompt with my inquiries. The awesome storage case is in short supply. As of October, Allan had only a few available. James Hatch also did a review on these in 2009 on Scale Plastic and Rail. Best - Rick- 118 replies

My Smith/Creek FW190 series is now complete. Medcalf Ju88 Vol 2 has been pre-ordered. Initial review of the Ju88 book looks really good and will serve as good reference on my future Ju88 builds. The FW190 Vol 3 continues great research and pics as done with Vols 1 & 2.

rkranias replied to PTW6187's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
yes really like Kits World decals and agree on the national insignia. I am using EagleCals #107 for the national insignia on Slick Chick. "one of these days..." yeah famous last words! That was my mantra when I returned to this hobby in '12. Then one little enhancement upgrade lead to another. I have drank the Kool-Aid, now I'm doing all sorts of stuff I thought I'd never do. It's always a learning curve, always a work in progress...always enjoyable. have fun Paul and look forward to your next build.
