  1. So here's the kit part on the right and the AM replacement I'm currently piecing together on the left.
  2. Well, I took a small break from the Falcon and decided to try assembling one of the PE cabinets that go in the cabin. A basic box, with some dividers in it. Then add some diagonal dividers. 30 of them... Then add a frame to the face of the cabinet. Finally add an upper cabinet to that. Now for doors.... ...this build will definitely not be shake and bake.
  3. That looks great. I want to light my 1/20 Valk when I get to building it. Need to figure out how to do that.
  4. I've most likely bitten off more than I can accomplish but I told @Bomber_County Phil if he entered his PT Boat I'd join him with this kit. I remember the Airfix kit as a kid so eventually I picked up a copy of the Italeri release. Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough and most of the AM was already discontinued by that point. I do have the Griffon basic PE set for it and the Italeri crew set. Here's the instructions for the PE set. Most are double sided so I can only imagine what the advanced set must be like. The one piece hull and deck. The plan is to finish the Millennium Falcon and then start on this project.
  5. Peter, looking forward to this. To be honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of the Kingfisher. It wasn't until the KH kit came out and I looked into it a bit more that I got one.
  6. I remember reading the book as well. The sequel Final Flight wasn't too bad either. Nice idea on doing the movie version of the plane. Carl
  7. Phil, can't wait to see you start this. I'm trying to finish my Millennium Falcon first and then figure out if in brave enough to tackle the Vosper like I said I would. Carl
  8. That's a bunch alright. I have the Griffon set and that's it. I see BNA has a couple of the Umodel figures in stock so I might add those.
  9. Happy New Year everyone!
  10. He has a habit of doing that. Did the same thing to Ernie with that Trumpeter disguise on the Ninak.
  11. For you it is. I still have just under 7 hours and a Millennium Falcon to go...
  12. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Rob, what figure do you have a d where did you get them? I have the Italeri set and they're a bit lacking.
  13. I just went through my Vosper MTB kit with the Griffon basic set and I think I'm going to have to find another subject. The amount of PE in the basic set is daunting. Don't even want to think what the advanced set looks like. I need to brush up on my soldering skill to take that on. Plus I want to finish the Millennium Falcon first. Carl
  14. Peter, I think you've got it correct on your model. The lower roundels should be darker as they haven't faded. If anything, the upper roundels could also be darker if they were freshly painted. I don't have any other references for the P-40 unfortunately to double check.
  15. Peter, I pulled out a Cutting Edge decal sheet I have for a P-40 and here's what it says about the roundels. The upper and lower roundels are the same size.
  16. That looks great Peter. Glad to hear the decals work well. I've got a GWH Mig-29 that's basically covered in decals. Carl
  17. The only one I know of is the Panda/Dragon kit. Ive not built one or seen it so can't comment on the quality. Carl
  18. Probably the view any IJN sailor didn't want to see of a Helldiver.
  19. If you build the Elco, I'll join you with the Vosper MTB. I've wanted to see what the PT boat looks like.
  20. Which kit of the PT boat Phil? Just curious if it's the Italeri one.
  21. Supposedly this kit was developed at the request of a hobby shop in Alberta. Unfortunately the owner passed away but Raymond, the owner of Kinetic carried through on his promise to do the model. I'll definitely be picking up at least one of them and I suspect my sons will too. We see the Snowbirds practically every year when they perform at the CNE. One year we saw them twice, once at the CNE and the other time at Brantford where the CWHM brought out their collection of airworthy planes. Including VR-A
  22. Peter, the pearl clear has fine flake in it so would be more for a car model. It's a gloss finish. I'm curious if it would work on the Have Glass paint which has a similar pearl effect. The GX100 is supposed to be a very high gloss clear. I have yet to try it out but will see how it works soon enough.
  23. Don't you mean a million random parts flying in close formation?
  24. Having the right approach is absolutely key to some kits. The Bandai Falcon I'm building is press fit and absolutely superlative in that regard. Everything goes exactly where it's supposed to and how it's supposed to. They've keyed each alignment pin/fastener so they can only go in one way, even to the point of making the pins asymmetrical so you can't put a similar looking part in the wrong spot. They even point it out to you in the instructions. Which means it would take serious work to screw it up if that's even possible. But, it's a huge amount of work painting it to look reasonably good. So in that way, it's a different challenge. The few short run kits I've done, I have generally enjoyed. Even the ones that folks have complained endlessly about- Fly, PCM, Special Hobby. Sure, I've had a couple go sideways but I learned from them. Like don't accidentally drop them when they're almost finished. But Ernie, as much as you make it look easy, rigging is still a black art.
