  1. Thanks Ernie! I don't think I've ever felt that I had to stick to one subject. Too many things are interesting or catch my eye. Which can be a problem in and of itself. But it makes it fun. Speaking of fun, it's buggy season! I picked these up the other day. The Avante was a must as it's an homage to an RC car I had as a kid. The Beetle was too good a price to pass up on. TamiyaUSA has it on sale for $169 but I was able to get it locally for roughly $135. Still can't figure that price out but whatever. As different as they may look, they use an almost identical chassis except the Beetle has portal axles that simply attach to the suspension arms. Tamiya is probably the master at milking the various RC parts and chassis they've made over the years for maximum return.
  2. Tempting, but it would probably take up a lot of space.
  3. Just booked a room for the 17th-20th. Carl
  4. Thanks Gaz! Actually, I'm not sure. The instructions say to paint it wood. The build review on the Modelling News did them in wood as well. Which doesn't mean that they're correct. The pics that I've been able to find show the railcars from ground level so you can't tell what the finish is of the deck. I'm going to leave them in wood and if I do find they were painted later on, it's easy enough to add a coat of paint over top. Carl
  5. Thanks, I just dipped my brush in the panel washes and randomly mixed them as I went along. Thought that was the best approach. Carl
  6. Sue asked my dad for a recipe for these steamed buns so my dad wrote it out for her. After she got it, she wasn't sure that she'd be able to eat them as she thought they had suet. I was a bit shocked so I took a look at the note. It said salt. Now my dad has terrible writing so I grew up trying to decipher things he'd written. But that was worth a laugh.
  7. Ok, I've finished giving it a wash.
  8. Got it Wumm. I'll always figures they were soaked in creosote or something and would be quite darker. I've started on the railcar. How's this?
  9. I've finally gotten back to this after a couple brief distractions. It's a small update but I'm making progress nonetheless. I continued work on the deck adding various details to the sides and ends. I then painted the deck in wood brown along with the rails road ties. Since I haven't really done a lot of wood graining, I used the ties as practice. I've applied a coat of Vallejo Burnt umber wash over the base coat. I thinned it with their glaze medium. What do you guys think compared to the ones without a wash?
  10. Me too. The resin barrels tend to be fairly fragile from my experience.
  11. I bet shipping to Canada will be worse.
  12. I was killing 2 birds with one stone. The hobby shop is about 30 km from our place but right on the way to the mountain bike trails. So I got the boys out for some fun and then on the way back, a quick detour. Same here. Don't know why but I've always liked it. Same with the Strv-103.
  13. I lost a Tamiya 1/32 F-4 J fuselage. No idea where it went. One huge piece of plastic for the Carpet Monster to drag down into its den.
  14. So I'm at my bench and I look down on it and see this. I'm not sure if it's the right MG, but if so, let me know and I can send it off to you. Carl
  15. I picked up an assortment of subjects the other day. I disguised the trip as an outing to take the boys mountain biking. First off, something sci-fi. Gojira! Or rather his mechanical doppleganger. Next up, the new Rye Field Sheridan. Haven't seen any buildups of it yet. I'll most likely do it in the 3 tone NATO camo. Next up is the new-ish Revell 262. These have been hard to find here in Canada. At least for me. Carl
  16. I flew on the 747 a few times but always in steerage. Never got to go upfront except when boarding or disembarking. Still, the room inside was great. They certainly had presence. Carl
  17. Great looking Leopard Gaz. I looked around and couldn't find a replacement MG and mount for you. I thought there might be one in my spares box but there wasn't. Carl
  18. Thanks Jeff! Phil, for the most part the fit was good and just the wing leading edge needed a quick cleanup. I lightly sanded the edge with a sponge style sanding stick and then did the creases with a razor saw. The saw was on the thicker side so it fit nicely and only took a short pass to clean up the seam.
  19. Thanks Rob! It's certainly different from the typical WWI planes. Thanks Bill Build it Harv! It's a great kit.
  20. It'll depend now on when the border opens. So the plan is to go, just have to be able to get there. Carl
  21. I finally got around to taking pics of my WNW Junkers D.1 A fun build. Certainly a great intro to WWI aircraft Here's the WIP for those interested. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/7291-wnw-junkers-d1/ Carl
  22. Ok, I took some pics of my other Spitfires. My second Tamiya Spit was Tolly Hello using the Zotz decal sheet. Using the Alley at conversion set, I did a PR XI. Next was MH434 as Rabbit Leader's AL-A I tried to replicate the painted on oil leaks they had done for the film.
  23. They were going to release one as well.
  24. That could work for me. Takes up much less space. Plus gives you an excuse to use the clear fuselage that they included in the full kit.
  25. It's a citrus based cement. So it is supposedly not as toxic. I got it for my boys to use. We'll see how well it works.
