  1. Hello are there any good reference books you might recommend? I’ve an old book about their history but it only has a few pix .
  2. Couldn't work out where best to put this , so please move if appropriate. I'll be away for a while and won't complete anything more this year , so thought this would be the time to post. This year was a good year for me , 11 tanks / vehicles , 1 ship , 9 aircraft inc 2 biplanes, 6 dioramas and 19 figures. Sales were good too , with three going to the US, two to France ( same customer which is always nice ) a bunch of cold war stuff to a collector near me , two to a guy in the UK and also sold off some older 1/48 build cheap to clear space. Net sum loss for models bought vs sold this year was £14 ....what a cheap hobby. Stuff I learnt :- Three 1/48 dioramas .....yes -I liked these , nice working smaller than the trad 1/35 , although less choice of model ....reckon more of these in '24 Biplanes, loved the Glad not so the Camel , but might do some more as I feel it's an itch to be scratched . I do really hate 1/72. I must stop being tempted by nostalgia 🥱 Late night wine fuelled purchases are ...dodgy..... but was happy with the Grant in the end ....and OPR "Oil Paint Rendering" as taught by Mike at Rinaldi Studios is for me a game changer , thank you to Nick Mayhew for making me aware of it . Go check it out and then throw all your "weathering products" in the bin ! Anyhow on with the show :- Laterz PW
  3. Pete - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dettol Dettol is a general purpose antisceptic . If the MDA approve it for bathing in and dressing wounds I think we can assume it's non toxic. Sadly you septics don't get it in your market . 🤣 FYI it has a very distinctive smell , any child of the 1970's will recognise.
  4. If you can get good old fashioned Detol -that is a safe non fume acrylic paint remover . Just coat and leave in a plastic bag for 24 hours. The smell afterward is slightly odd , but goes once you re prime .
  5. 100% agree on the old Detolf. This is my entire collection of built models , if it fits, it can stay , if there is shelf space it can stay , otherwise it gets sold . I periodically clear out the 2/3 year old models to make room for new ones, as I get bored looking at the same stuff. Maybe a bit brutal but means I don't keep models/ dust collectors all over the house. Sadly though, as Carl says , the corporate schmucks at IKEA killed it off in the usual corporate stupid way . "We have a product that has sold well for years and has a huge following including aftermarket....lets make it smaller , cheaper , crappier and make more profit ...oh look non one is buying the new one because it's smaller and crappier ...we'd better delist it ". How much profit do you need IKEA , are times getting hard ...?? "Marketeers" and accountants .....once they get hold of your company .....the product turns to schizzle .
  6. Facebook- stealer of all your details so they can sell you to whoever. If the product is free …..etc I’m there as wheelers end models , but that is just a gallery. sorry , Gen Xer not interested
  7. I have the same thoughts , I’ve bought 2-3 of the same kit when they were cheap, built one or two and then sold off the rest . I get ideas for dios but often go off them later and dump the models on eBay. As you say most stuff can be bought when you need it , I’m not a collector nor do I like having loads of cash tied up . I sell most of what I make as it funds my hobby which has been cash neutral for a long time . Just my take tbh.
  8. Not on my bench but outside my window today ....Helmut Dollinger's KT ... Old hotel, in Ligneuville look familiar ?? Here........ back when Ardnt Fischer parked his Panther outside in an unscheduled "bazooka inspired" stop . Yep , BotB obsessed man gets to spend 4 wintery days in the Ardennes ....again . This years focus is the Loshiem gap , & we're staying at St Vith . This trip I'm planning on seeing where Lyle Bouck held up a whole division for a day with 18 men, link ,where the poor 106th Inf Div came to grief in the Schnee Eifel link , and where the early battles in and around the small villages really messed up 5th PanzerArmee timings. If anyones interested I could maybe do a small travelblog? Wish me snow .... Pw
  9. Those mid 90's 1/48 Tamiya kits really raised the bar in terms of parts fit for my money . I've not built the F-4 yet , but did the Spitfire from around the same time and also recently the Skyrider, and currently am tackling the Mosquito . Clean the tooling gate marks, line stuff up and apply some extra thin, maybe a little correction later ...try that with a similar age Airfix kit. 🤣 Japanese precision where you want it . Your 'pit looks great , I'm having a pop with a Yahu panel for the Mossie as I don't use Quinta. Look forward to seeing this on on the line .
  10. Maybe you need to buy some more models if that is the score ……for ‘longevity’
  11. Got to love a 892 Phantom . I did XV590 in 1/48 earlier this year, beautiful aircraft , makes you want to break into "sailing" thinking of the old Ark .
  12. See where I'm going though .....you've 17 years worth of stock , plus who knows how many bucks 😀
  13. Done , typical Tamiya , fit is great, very straightforward to build so you can concentrate on painting and the rest . Off for a Carlsberg .
  14. Launched in Nov, arrived after my pre order . Comes as "green" markingn for airfield dioramas no doubt, but since one of my all time films is Ice Cold in Alex....thats where I'm going . This'll be quick , just a bit of weekend fun . Not many bitz Wish Airflups desinger's would take note of proper instructions instead of the 100 page nonsense they produce these days . Of course it's on in the background .... She's battered in the film Sylvia Syms was the last of the cast, she died in Jan this year aged 89 . Masking stuff as gives me more options later on , plus huge decals often suck / look too perfect IMHO . Thats a small model not a huge glass of wine .....no really .... Back later PW
  15. Sell the kits have an around the world holiday 😀.....I can knock out 2 a month , so 170....thats 7 years worth for me at least..... FYI my stash is a whole ....20 today .( £800 tied up) ..stuff I've lost interest in or just had knocking around too long gets sold . Just my opinion . 🤣
  16. Things been driving me nuts in another universe far far away . Done now .
