Looks brilliant so far, Rob!  You're really making all of the details look exceptional.

Thank you Gary, I have to admit, I'm a bit scared of the next steps and try to find excuses not to start with the rigging. I'm accumulating information and reading logs. Quite normal for me to ponder a lot about seemingly difficult tasks, but luckily there is a breaking point normally, where all the cumulated energy has to be directed to the build again and thanks to good preparation, all is easier than thought.

very nice work i love it

Thank you Mark, have you found something interesting to build as a wooden ship? It's a great change after tons of plastic and I think, when DoK is done, I have a new hunger for some plastic kits.

I became a member of Model Ship World two weeks ago. It's a very resourceful and helpful place for ship modelling. I was considering membership for a long time, since I prefer to be a contributing member in one forum only, that's why I ended up in the open world of LSM, but I have the feel, that I will need some more expertise in the next weeks.

I didn't like the look of my blue PE oars and I had to do something about them, as they were too prominent on deck of the DoK. I de-charred the also supplied ones from pear wood, rounded them cautiously with sanding paper and files and gave them a cot of Wipe on Poly, followed by blue for the blades and gold for the handles.
Now I like the look and it was well worth the extra effort to tear off the PE oars, rip of the seat planks, clean them from CA and repaint them.
The supports were glued to the deck, but the boat will be removed, as it may is in the way, while rigging.
Next is cleaning of the bench and then, it's rigging time :icon_eek:.

Cheers Rob

Rob, this looks absolutely beautiful, I’d skip the rigging and so you’re finished……..that’s if I ever got this far…

Thanks Phil, but no place for a Houdini rigging :D, I will somehow pull through, but it may take a while.

Sorry Martin, not so funny this time, as there are thousands of refugees drowning near my island every year. Of course, you can't know that, just to let you know.

My apologies, I didn't realize that that is boat with refugees , creating secondary connotation. Sorry about that.

No problem Martin, humor is an individual thing and I'm sometimes on the not completely political correct side either. If I'm overboard in one way or another, I value it, if someone tells me, that he's offended. It's always best to talk about sensitivities and not dismiss the humor for all the correctness. :thumbsup2:.

Rob, I’m just catching up, and I’m blown away by this!  Unbelievable!   Looking at this, now I can see why so many people just step the masts and stop.  No running rigging to deal with, nothing.
Reading through this makes me want to get back on to HMS Speedy, which is still not quite completed her second planking.  Speedy has a copper bottom, so that oughta be fun. 😇

I follow this with much interest!

Also, I haven’t been over there in a bit, so I should check, but are you cross posting this on MSW as well?

Thanks Ernie, you should give your HMS Speedy some love. Wooden ship building is so rewarding and at least until now was a trouble free experience and generated a lot of fun, while learning a lot.
I will continue with plastic models as well, but wooden ships are a nice distraction and working with wood is a pleasure in itself.
One of these days, I will try a copper sheated hull as well. I found Chris' models so well designed, that building them is relatively easy, but sure you have to do the planking and rigging somehow.

Since two weeks, I'm a member on MSW as well and posted my WIP there, as there is a lot of expertise for my rigging adventures. It's a great forum with lots of members to learn a lot off. Of course, I contribute my plastic, metal, resin and airbrush credentials, which are not so wide spread among ship modelers.

I shall.  I had to start fresh with my second planking. I hadn’t relieved the ends e ough a d it would have been VERY noticeable farther down the hull.
You and are both quite comfortable working with PE, so copper sheathing should be less of an issue for us than it is for those who work in nothing but wood.

Have to agree Rob the wooden oars definitely look better with the wood handles blending it together.;)

What can i say just wonderfull.

Thank you Gentlemen, and yes Kevin, I like the wooden oars a lot better, like the rug in the Dudes room, which tied everything together in 'The Big Lebowsky' movie :D.

Here is where I was a couple months back after pulling back my second planking.  Just gotta get cracking in her again.

Your first planking looks like a perfect base layer Ernie. To help with the second planking's width of the planks (tapering), I measured the to plank length over each spar and had an approximate for the necessary tapering. For training purposes, I tried that with the first planking. I first thought, beveling and tapering will be very time consuming, but it wasn't that bad and I didn't made a science out of it, only trying to have a nice and symmetrical planked hull. There is not so much planked area to be seen, with the copper sheating, where the much harder to plank lower part of the hull is covered.
