All, I made it by the skin of my teeth, was a little concerned about the site upgrade but all is well.

The Elco was an eBay purchase for around 2/3 cost of actual. It also came with a full crew complement, I may get around to these at at later date. My figure painting needs a lot of work in any case.

The kit itself has 370 parts in light grey plastic, 87 etched parts in 0.4mm metal, 2 metal barrels for the Bofors and M4 guns plus a clear sheet for the many small windows and lengths of twine, wire, a small mesh sheet and screws to hold the deck in place. Added to this is the decal sheet and a 32 page instruction sheet all in a massive box measuring 725mm x 460mm x 105mm, something to take into account if ordering by mail.

This was my first Italeri which was a little of an eye opener. The fit was overall good but very part had a parting line on it that was slightly imperfect and out of alignment. Therefore every part had to be scraped, filed and filled as required.

I’ve attempted to add some detail where appropriate, as a base if you wanted to super detail the hell out of it, it’s a good canvas. I’ve seen several of these adapted for RC which would be a lot of fun. I added the spring mechanism in the M4 and all sorts of crazy stuff, wiring the mast, adding a full cockpit layout etc, it was great fun and could have done carried on indefinitely.

A totally enjoyable build and refined some scratch building skills. Well recommend this kit and build, you have to have one big boat on the shelf………..

I found a new setting on my iPhone which came out a lot better than my attempts to use my DSLR, hope they are up to standard.

Wow Phil, what a great last second entry. Your PT-Boat looks fantastic and there is so much detail to please the eye. I hear you on the Italeri quality, a company I normally avoid, but I have the Vosper boat in my stash along lots of goodies. I hope you'll add figures later, these boats cry for it to add some life.

Cheers Rob

Rob, very much appreciated. I actually completed the build last weekend but just couldn’t get the photography to look good, hence the the delay. The detailing was fun,  just wish Griffon would have done a PE for this. Not sure if I’d build Italeri again but saying that their S-100 does look nice. The figures look ok but need work on them. I did see there are separate helmets that I will add to the model and also I have some binoculars in the spares box………
