I still have a few old issues of Airfix Magazine, and Scale Models. One of the Scale Models issues (of 1974 , or 1976 ?) introduces a new « revolutionary » (which it was, at the time) model improvement technique : photo-etch.
At that time, they were using clear varnish to assemble the PE parts, as CA glue did not exist yet, at least for the general public …

That reminds me how old I am getting

Still have a collection from that period, having a Badger airbrush was a dream then…….

I wouldn't have had the gall to ask for one for Xmas , nor any idea what to do with it when I got it .... hairy sticks and a pile of little airfix tins in the 1970's

More - Airfix Catalogue from 1975 ...they still sell some of these dog old mouldings ....talk about sweaty assets . My original (long lost copy that fell apart circa 1979) had a lot of circled pictures around the ones I'd built .

Recognise a few I built/massacred as a kid in there. I certainly recall making a complete dog's breakfast of of a dio with Monty's Humber as I didn't realise lacquers wouldn't play nice with polystyrene.

I did the Rommel's Halftrack a few years back , which apparently was "kit of the year" when launched . It wasn't as grim as you might expect but any kit launched after 1995 would make it look bad. Shape was ok , small details really let it down with the technology of the day for moulding

I must have had this catalogue too, I remember all of the box arts. I might have circled numerous of the kits as well. Huh, sentimental journey, thanks for showing PW.

Cheers Rob

It is funny how after all those years we are still pouring money into those 1/24 scale relics, just because they are the best  representations of the given subjects. Sorry Trumpeter. Nostalgia aside, I miss ingenuity and touch of the old school machinists with calipers, protractors and gauges

Matchbox AMT Catalogue from 1979/80 . Kits probably designed so blind people could orientate the parts using the huge trenches for panel lines.

Enjoy ..or not .

Built a few of those as a kid. Always remember the multi-coloured sprues which meant some of my earliest efforts didn't even get painted.

Ditto, I recieved the 32 scale Lysander from my fave uncle one year and being amazed at just how big it was , although I think the canopy sections really gave me issues . All painted with a hairy brush aged 12!

I remember those catalogues! The shops would have them as free handouts. Built a bunch of the Matchbox kits as a kid. The 1/76 armour was my favourite as they can with the small diorama bases. I don't recall how many of the M16 MGCs I did. Lots of fun.

oh boy, thanks for sharing! I counted at seventeen of those Matchbox kits that I built as a kid in the 80s. I still have a few left in the display case. Many have been lost to the "anti aircraft artillery" strikes (i.e. bb guns)

The tanks with the bases were especially cool. Fond memories :)
