Playing in the Sandbox Group Build Sept 1, 2024 - Jn 1, 2025

Recommended Posts

My bench was looking a bit too sparse with just the Kingfisher on it so I gave into the impulse to start on this kit. I've had it in the stash since it first came out so it was about time.

Some of the AM for this build.

As seems the current situation, our cat couldn't stay away. I just need to keep her from huffing the glue or she'll never leave.

I'm really jumping around on this build so don't know if it'll be a good one to follow. Anyways, I started with one of the engines.

The pistons and con rods are moulded into the engines. But you'll never see them again once they're together.

Next up, I started on the rear fuselage. The parts need some careful cleanup as there are moulded separation lines along the edges of many parts. Once cleaned up, they go together nicely though.

While that was drying, I assembled the wing spar and upper wing and nacelles.

Here's as far as I've gotten for today. The inside of the rear fuselage is now silver.

I'm going to add a bit of the inner details as they may be visible through the window in the top of the fuselage.

I also painted the nacelles RLM02 in the area near the MLG gear bays for the same reason.

Mix up or not, I will follow and hope to learn something for mine out of it. I have all the goodies as well except for the resin transparencies, which were included in the firs draft only. Have fun.

Cheers Rob

Mine was the first release so I was fortunate to have those in my kit.

Alright, now you're just showing off! Looking good!

More like on a roll so just want to keep going. Plus once summer rolls around I won't have as much bench time.

Small bit of progress. Mostly painting the moulded on wires and plumbing. I envy you guys who can do this so neatly. There's a bunch of touch-ups here.

These are some of the rear fuselage's internal details that will be visible from the mechanic's window.

That's it for the moment.

Despite the excessive detail in Z-M kits, I like them very much. Looking forward to your progress, Carl!

Thanks Bill! This is my second ZM kit to make it to the bench. The first was their A-1H and I enjoyed building it. I did leave out a bit of the interior details that would never be seen.

Wow Carl you’re a machine, how many is that year alone.....looking forward to the Uhu......

Thanks! I've only managed to finish one so far this year. But it's the third one I've started.

Okay, got a bit more done. I installed the gear bays bits I previously painted and started on the nacelle halves.

From there, I started on the belly pack for the guns. I have the brass barrel upgrade set from ZM but it's a bit of a challenge to fit. This is the stock kit part.

Here are the replacement blast tubes for the belly pack as well as the wing guns.

I don't know if the extra work related to the addition of those brass blast tubes it really necessary ? Plastic pieces seems to provide the same look.

The plastic ones aren't bad but there's a cutout near the tip so they're not completely circular. The inner ones also don't extend all the way back to the gun bodies themselves so that's the other issue. They stop halfway.

So first step is to cut out the existing tubes. Then you have to drill through the bulkheads.

IMG_20190308_092259-L.jpg

I started with a 1mm drill bit and moved up to progressively larger bits until I reached the correct diameter.

I did a quick test fit. You can see the difference in length on the centre tube.
