Some more progress on this beast. I decided to add all of the bulkheads from 1 through 7. Bulkhead 1 comes in the kit, 2 comes in the kit, 3 comes in the kit, 4 only has the lower half in the kit so I made the upper half of it. 5 is totally from scratch, 6 is totally from scratch and 7 comes in the kit. Here are some pictures.

20190927_172021.jpgThis is the rear of bulkhead 3 and lower portion of bulkhead 4. I added the two white peices of plastic card to represent the attachment plates that held the two halfs of the fuselage together.

20190927_172003.jpgThis is the front of bulkhead 3 and the added plates.

20190927_171920.jpgThis is bulkhead 4 upper, I added the plate and the inside of the cutout is lined with a piece of 0.015" thk. x 0.08" wide plastic card. Similar to what is on bulkhead 3.

20190927_171855.jpgThis is bulkhead 5 with the added attachment plates.

20190927_171551.jpgthis is a view looking forward at bulkheads 4 and 3. You can see how my part fits to the kit parts. I also added a piece of card to the lower half of the back of bulkhead 4.

20190927_204238.jpgView looking rearward through bulkheads 3 and 4.

20190927_171528.jpgView showing the top of the fuselage joint, not to bad of a fit.

20190927_171302.jpgThis view shows the fit of the lower fuselage.

20190927_171445.jpgView looking into the rear radio hatch.

20190927_171425.jpgA view looking down through the fuselage. This will all be covered up, but I will know that it's there. B):D Thanks for looking let me know what you think.

Thanks Anthony

Actually I finished them Friday evening, before I got your photos, but thanks they helped to refine my plans. Hey did you ever find those Paragon exhaust shrouds? I could sure use em if you got em. This thing is a huge drain on ones modeling mojo, and I know you get what I mean. :unworthy:;):D

Hey all

A little update on what I've been working on. I started working on the wings, rudder and elevators. I went through everything and altered them so that they work. I had a few mishaps, but everything worked out. Here are some pictures.

20191015_135333.jpgI added the reinforcement strip cut from .015" plastic sheet. On the left you can see one of the rocket rails sitting in place. Everything is just sitting in place, nothing is glued yet. I still need to add the strip to the top of the wing.

20191015_135236.jpgunderside of port wing showing landing light, flaps (they need some filling on the rear edge) and the ailerons. At the right you can see were I drilled through the outer surface...:wallbash: but I managed to fix it.

20191015_135300.jpgunderside of starboard wing with one of the rocket rails.

20191015_135929.jpgport aileron and the hinge pins made from plastic rod. 06" on the left and .04" on the right.

20191015_140022.jpgport aileron with pins inserted in the drilled out holes.

20191015_140159.jpgthis picture shows the holes drilled in the hinges that the pins go in when you install the ailerons.

20191015_131920.jpgwing tips with covers added and bilbs made from 1/16" colored acrylic rods cut to size and coat with a light coat of Tamiya clear red and green.

20191015_161441.jpgtop of tail planes assembled.

20191015_132412.jpgbottom of tail planes showing the tail wheel guard drilled and cut out and rear of guard extended, thanks to Anthony in NZ's build.

20191015_132811.jpgview showing parts apart.

20191015_132726.jpgbottom view of port elevator and tail plane. You can see the cutouts made to clear the hinges that I made from plastic rods.

20191015_133129.jpgview showing plastic rod hinges.

20191015_134451.jpgview showing rudder in place.

20191015_134430.jpgview showing rudder to the right.

20191015_134413.jpgview showing rudder to the left.

20191015_134355.jpgview showing the bottom of the rudder hinge pin.

20191015_133723.jpgview showing hole for hinge pin.

20191015_133955.jpgview showing holes for hinge pin. I had to reolace the upper hinge cause it broke off when I was test fitting the rudder.

20191015_133520.jpgport side of rudder, you can see were I f'd up on the center slot. Hinge pin shown installed.

20191015_133454.jpgview of starboard side of rudder.

20191015_133437.jpgview showing rudder and hinge pin made from steel rod and aluminum tube.

Well that's as far as I have gotten on this beast up to now. I've test fit all of the wing, fuselage,  rudder and nacelles and everything seams to fit pretty good. But we'll see how it goes when it gets to gluing it all together...knock on wood:rolleyes:

Ron, ............. I see you mention adding the 'strip ' to the top wing.............. in actuality it is just tape and not actually a 'strip' of anything thick and huge, it is barely discernible even in real life, in some cases hardly visible at all......

Ron, Jeff is correct when it comes to early production wings, I have the mod sheets somewhere that stipulates adding this ply weather strip and how much to feather the edges before applying the fabric strip.  These illustrate.  I havent used restored examples to illustrate.

Hope this dosent add too much to your confusion LOL

Note the tops of the bolts for RP rail stub on top of that weather strip on the photo of the top wing on the RNZAF Mosquito.  The red circle shows the lack of blending on many examples

It's up to you really after looking at the photo's.

Personally I have put them on as I feel in 24th it's warranted.  However I sanded mine down very thin, sprayed Mr surfacer heavily on the edges then used a sanding sponge to blend it all in.

Your call, really...

Thanks for the better pics Anthony, I had some as I had a great discussion with our Calgary Mosquito Society Prez, he sent me some excellent pics and I was trying to find them, but your fit the bill perfectly.............. I only brought this up so Ron didn't have an issue that he would have had to rectify later on should he want to.... I feel the 'cap strips' on the 1/32 Tamiya Mossie are a bit 'proud' and need a little tlc as well.... it seems this is a subject by subject thing, as you show, some birds show the prominent strips and others not so much... thanks for the great pics, now I don't have to keep searching for mine....

LOL, pleasure mate!  Its a community of sharing information, that's what makes it so great.  It's always a pleasure to help fellow modelers, especially on the Mosquito for me, as I have had a lot to do with them over the years.  As well as working extensively with Tamiya (and several others of course) to do the 32nd kit, I have a real love for them.

Cheers Anthony

Me too, although I don't have quite as much experience, I did help a little bit and am in constant contact with 'our' restoration of the Spartan B.35 in Nanton Alberta, as well as the prez of the Calgary Mosquito Society, who is my good friend, and................................ 633 Sqdn was one of my top movies ! LOL....  how cool that was that you got to work with Tamiya on their 1/32 Mossie.......................... THAT could be a story in itself, also you must be proud of all the good comments on that kit.....................................................  sorry for the high-jack, Ron.................. we now return to our regularly scheduled program................;)

Small update

Made a wing spar out of 0.06" thick black plastic. Put the dihedra at  1.40 deg. Or 1°24'10"

20191017_163844.jpginside of upper wing showing spar installed.

20191017_163812.jpginside of starboard upper wing.

20191017_163756.jpginside of port upper wing. I had to modify the nacelles to accept the spar, fairly easy. More later, waiting on some mister surfacer to dry so I can sand it smooth.

Hey all

Another update on the big Mossie. I was thinking of getting the Eduard set for the undercarriage, but I really only need the undercarriage door parts, so I looked at the pdf of this set and decided I would scratch build my own using the Eduard ones as a guide. I have started, but still have a long way to go. Here are some pics,  so take a look and let me know what you think.

20191025_171912.jpgthese are the port doors

20191025_171931.jpgstill have some details to add and some grinding in order to relieve the large squarish area between the bigger circular piece on the left and the long square piece.

20191025_171949.jpgthis is the other set of doors. I have cut enough pieces to do both sets of doors.
