  1. Built the P-36, decent kit but definitely not shake and bake. If you don't an aversion to filling and sanding you should be OK.
  2. Absolutely, and the US and Europe really are secondary markets as far as Tamiya and Hasegawa are concerned, I think a lot of people fail to realize that.
  3. Gives us mere mortals something to aspire to! You guys kick A**!
  4. Does anyone know if this set corrects the too shallow depth issue of the kit supplied cockpit?
  5. Steve, Thanks for your insight, always an educational experience! Based on what you've pointed out looks like I might keep buying Hasegawa. With current exchange here in Japan I'm paying about $37 for their 109's. Not sure what the target price will be for Revell but I don't see it being considerably cheaper. Interested to see what the spinner will look like as well, will we get an overly blunt version like Hasegawa and Trumpeter?
  6. For the Emil yes, but don't discount the Eduard kit either, it's actually a very nice kit. For the F on up Hasegawa is about the best option, the Trumpeter are OK but suffer from all the mistakes of the Haseagawa kits while introducing several of their own. The Trumpy P-40 is really not that bad and really the only game in town for a B/C, it does need a new cockpit but unless you're super critical it's a decent kit. Later models it's all Hasegawa which are nice kits. A toss up here I think, Matt, Dave and Rick all have WIP going on the P-47 so check those out. Trumpeter, one of their best kits for sure. The Dragon kits are excellent. Once again Trumpeter. I don't think anyone makes a modern Hellcat. Of course the Tamiya Corsair will be king of the hill. Anything by Tamiya is excellent, P-51, Spitfire, Zero. Anything new tool by Hasegawa will be a solid kit too, their Japanese aircraft are great as well as their 190's, the Dora is really a good kit. Revell's Ju 88 and He 111 are great too, the He 219 suffers from some inaccuracies but is a great value and looks good when built up.
  7. Well not really a big surprise. Not an aircraft that I have a huge affinity for but will pick one up mostly because a late friend of the family flew for VMF 214 "The Black Sheep" during the war and will build it as a tribute to him. I'm just wondering how long it will take to see a Luftwaffe bird from Tamiya, you can only crank out the iconic fighters of WW2 so long without covering the 109 or the 190.
  8. Very cool, gotta love inter-war aircraft!
  9. Yeah, the "sideways S" or "welle" denotes IV Gruppe (at this point in the war, earlier it denoted III Gruppe). Aviation artists, like modelers, don't necessarily always get the little details right. I think the artist based that picture on a photo of Stigler's aircraft in Feb of '44, I don't think the machine that the incident took place in was ever photographed in Dec of '43. I'm not saying there isn't a possibilty I could be wrong but IMHO I don't think the IV Gruppe "welle" belongs on there. Also note in the painting that the nose carries the "Berlin Bear" badge of II Gruppe, which conflicts with the IV Gruppe welle.
  10. Paul, One more thing here, not sure if the Kits World decals are accurate for the time frame of this event. At the time of this event, Stigler was assigned to 6./JG 27 (II Gruppe) which would have had a horizontal bar aft of the Balkankreuz not the "welle" as portrayed. It appears that the aircraft on the decal sheet is actually based on a photo from later date when Stigler was assigned to 12./JG 27.
  11. You'll need to use Photobucket or another hosting service, direct attachment of photos has been disabled because it poses a major security risk to the board.
