Brothers in plastic, Revell II and IX
Wingco57 replied to Wingco57's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Stil making progress on the Spitbits. The IX has a headstart as it is a commission build, and it builds up nicely. The canopy is very thin and the bubble hood has no seam, incredible moulding with sometimes crude parts almost next to it. The only thing that keeps bugging me is the flat dihedral of the wings. Not even clamping or sanding seems to have improved it, although on the IX it is less noticable. Still it us a pleasure to put together, the painting process is getting near, with the II or I, haven't decided yet, in close formation. -

That's very nice, although I fear the aircraft modelling community has lost a modeller -
Can we lobby someone for a 1/32 Mc 202 "Folgore"?

And was dead cheap. -

Didn't PCM do one, and there was one that was sold exclusively through the Wall Mart chain in the US. -

I used a left over seatbelt from a PCM Spit XIV for the IX and the HGW seatbelt for the Mk II. Personally I do not like the HGW belts, very fiddely. But I have seen very nice results from them. -
Hi there chaps, I have been plodding away on two of Revell's Spitfires. The Mk II which I started just after I finished the P-40 and a week later the Mk IX came out so grabbed that one too. A double build looked a good idea so the builds were on. As expected the IX is based on the Mk II and the wings and fuselages can be swapped which make for good cross kitting. The IX is a commission build and will be finished in 322 Squadron colours and the aircraft flown by Dutchman A. Homburg who unfortunately crashed in this aircraft on april 1st, 1945. The Mk II will be either a Mk I or Mk II depending on what livery I fancy. Anyway, let the pics do the talking. Cees

It is, so buy it while you can/want so the revenue will enable HKM to release more interesting kits (after the Lanc of course). Cees

Nice, pity the magazine is not available over here. -
When finished you can display it at the Louvre. Could't resist

that would make many people happy when it is released. First time two stage Merlins on a Mossie in our scale.

I have big shoes -
Thanks Tom, Well that was why I buillt the P-40E in Dutch colours to get something finished. Unlike you I only work in 1/32 and a 1/72 or 1/48 build in between doesn't thrill me (anymore). But these conversion projects are much fun but you need to have patience. The Manchester will be finished but whether before or after the Lancaster is released I don't know.
-
Sure enough Tom, You can use this kit as a basis for a lot of conversions.

Here's a pic showing the Mk II and Mk IX fuselage halves together. Up to the rear of the cowling the fit is excellent. The difference in cockpit coaming is clear as the Mk II used the external armour glass and the Mk IX the internal armour glass. From the nose the length of the cowling is also very noticable.
-
So many variations, anything is possible, but not without major conversion work.
-
I have been working on one since saturday as well on the Mk II I started the week before. Would make a nice comparison. It's basically the Mk II with some new sprues for the MK IX. As the later versions of Spitfire were converted earliers marks this makes sense too. I have checked the Mk IX wings to the Mk II fuselage and there is a good match. As you can see in the pics the Mk IX wings have the almond shaped fairing on the top wing. This was a postwar mod to clear the thicker tyres so for a wartime Spit these will have to be sanded off. The radiator fairings are similar to the Mk II and lack depth.

Speed build Hasegawa Tony
Wingco57 replied to Padubon's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
If you need something good for a speedy build then Hasegawa delivers. You have really gotten yourself in gear with this one. -
I got myself the Mk IX yesterday and will build this alongside the Mk II I already started. Would make a nice comparison.

Wip section, now two are underway.

A build is underway on Britmodeller, it looks quite good, escpecially for that price.
