  1. The first planking is complete. Here she is almost complete last night. Note to self: next time I do one of these, install the garboard planks first, then plank down to reach the garboard, instead of trying to fit it last. Grrrrrrrrr
  2. John, I have this kit in the stash and it's hollering to me as well....
  3. After another ration of grog, here we are. The missing piece on the stern is normal. A stealer is inserted into the open area, and is quite common in full scale shipbuilding. The whole idea here is that the planks, as much as possible, should follow the natural lines of the hull, and not to force them to do something they don’t want to. The glue marks will, of course, sand off the entire hull will be planed and blocked to a smooth, flowing form. I’m actually quite enjoying the change of pace with this.
  4. My big deal is that I’m absolutely not cool with the Chinese doing what the Chinese do: openly stealing intellectual property for their own gain. Now, IF they acquired it legally according to NZ Law, I’d be 100% cool with it. That’s just how I’m wired. I’m 100% against intellectual theft. The good news is, I’m under no obligation to buy it, or anything else I feel is stolen intellectual property. And this is NOT because I support PJ whatsoever. A close friend of mine has, in other retail areas, been the victim of Chinese theft, and it’s NOT a victimless crime. He lost hundreds of thousands in sales, tens of thousands in development dollars, and 10 years of his life. He had exactly 7 months of sales before flagrant bootleg Chinese copies arrived on the shelves at half price, and 1/10 the quality.
  5. Up, I have a Polish set as well, but will do one using an Academy two seater
  6. I’m a dedicated prophead as well, but every now and then a belchfire oil burner needs to be slapped together just to keep one’s head clear. Whats not to love about 18 gazillion microscopic stencils, building, painting and decalling 60 of the same bomb, putting on all the exact blades, antennas, rivet pattern around the relief tube exhaust, and removing ejector pin marks from inside the big white sucker scoop.... lest you get yelled at and made sport of by the Brotherhood of the Blowtorch.
  7. I do know that a 1/32 Lanc was a lag project and pipe dream of his for decades. I’m pretty certain he was working on his before HK started on theirs, but who knows. I do believe it all tied into his owning the Rights to the Dambusters and the Barnes Wallis story. Whether or not we got French planes, a DH.4 or Be.2c, we did get many dozens of crazy well engineered unique and stunning WW1 aircraft that, if not for him, would never have been produced.
  8. Well, around here the F-16C is easy enough to find, but it’s 100 USD. Plus shipping to Germany and it gets spendy. Are they not available from Hannants?
  9. I saw some of the stuff on TOS, and it’s just the usual garbage. A hone can stretch a thread into 20 pages by saying the same things over and over and over.
  10. I’ll never get over WNW not doing French fighters. That was a huge mistake. I wouldn’t be surprised if the WERE originally the WNW molds, now nicely requisitioned by the Chinese government and redistributed to the local Chinese companies. Western rules of business etiquette and copyright mean nothing in China. I’ll pass.
  11. Ok, a few have come through for me. GOOD LORD!! That's incredible. Like others here I'll join in and say "AMAZING WORK"!!!!
  12. Dangit, I can't see the pics! And the Tiffie is one of my favorite aircraft, and the internet is here holding out on me!!!
  13. Tim, I still can’t get over that Klimov P-40. That’s just pure genius
  14. I certainly don’t understand the ignoring of the KH Mirage. It’s a crazy popular kit with all kinds of possibilities, and other than Eduard and Master goodies, it’s been completely overlooked by the AM guys. The A-26 will certainly need plenty of AM...
  15. I’m watching the medical side of it very carefully. My company weathered the first shutdown, and we still haven’t built back up again, so a second shutdown may deliver a stinging blow. If people would just use masks and stay apart a bit, all would be fine.
  16. Carrying on.... As of this morning I have four more on each side in place. Suddenly the skill just “clicked”, and now I’d love to go back and do it over with what I know now But the good news is the planks are thick and will be sanded to the final exact form, then a pearwood second layer applied over the lime wood. Matter of fact, eagle eyes will see I’ve been shaping a bit already.... I’m certainly learning new skills here, several of which will benefit me greatly when I finally get busy on my big Fokker Super Universal.
  17. Carl, where did you buy that last case? It’s not IKEA, is it?
  18. The ones that get me are the misspelled English or German words that are part of the color scheme. The ones you can see from across the room.
