Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Yesterday evening I took care once again of the cannon dampers. A friend of mine told me that the web between the damping rings wasn’t present on the real aircraft. So I carefully removed it: Then I moved over to the landing gear. The front landing gear only has the hydraulic lines for the nosewheel-steering. The landing-lights aren’t present at Israeli Mirages. The hydraulic cylinder of the nosewheel damper was painted with my 1 mm Molotow Chrome pencil. Then I brushpainted it with Tamiya XF-16 flat aluminum. Detail painting and slight weathering will follow: Next was to paint the hydraulic dampers on the main wheel legs, because after installation of the scissors on the legs you can’t paint them anymore: Again Molowtow pencils (1 and 2 mm) were used. This has to dry overnight before I can continue with the detailing. Last thing I did was the assembly of the subsonic tanks. What do you think about the fit? Correct: also here rework needed! Since this was the last assembly of the kit the result is: No assembly of the whole kit without any rework!! I never had this up to now in my long modeler life... Next will be to finish detailing of the main wheel legs and detail painting of the assemblies.- 719 replies

Atlas Cheetah E Scaleworx Conversion
Kaireckstadt replied to GusMac's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Gus, I can clearly understand that with the necessary conversion of the wings there is no chance to glue them separately to the fuselage. And the problems you are now going through can really only be solved as you write by gluing section by section. Hope that it won’t cause too much rework. I wish you good luck and I‘m curious to see your progress tomorrow! -

Thank you Frank, Master really makes beautiful accessories. I use them as often as possible for my kits. Especially the pitot tubes make life for them much safer like on the F-104 or MiG 21 or EE Lightning.- 719 replies

I can’t see any weekness when I look at the guns. They look perfect from my point of view! Also the result of the fairing in looks absolutely convincing. Good decision not to use all photoetch parts. When they are so small that you can’t even hold them with tweezers I do not install them.

Thank you Gaz! The pitot tube is metal. You can pick up and hold the plane on it. Hope that I won’t knock it off.- 719 replies

Thanks Gus, If you mean the pitot: I think it protrudes so much because it should be in totally undisturbed airflow in front of the plane (same as with the 104). But could also have another reason...- 719 replies

Stunning cockpit Gus! So you are the third here to struggle with this kit. And it seems you are going the way by sticking to the instructions? l‘m curious how the fit of your wings to the fuselage and wheel wells and also the vertical stabilizer will be. How is the fit of the cockpit tub and the upper fuselage? Will follow your build closely. Beautiful work so far! Kai -
Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A
Kaireckstadt replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
That looks really awesome Carl. The cockpit and the engine are a kit within the kit and the fit is perfect. Like Rob said: No resin replacement needed. Keep up with the good work! Kai -
Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Yesterday I added all the missing rivets to the airframe. Took some time but now it’s finished. Here are some sample pictures: Then I moved over to the guns. The representation Italeri created is more than poor. Since the caliber of the gun is 30mm I used 0,9mm cannula to replicate them. I used reference fotos from the Duke Hawkins Book. The damping-rings are not the same for the C and DS but the arrangement is the same: The damping-rings (although prominent on the real plane nothing provided by Italeri) came from the Eduard Exterior Brass Set and were really fiddly to bend and glue: But the result was acceptable for me. The last thing I did was to add the pitot tube to the nose. It has to be attached already at this stage because it’s partly painted. I used the Master pitot which needed some rework to make it fit perfectly.: That’s all for today. This is how my Mirage looks like now: I now will go on with the landing-gear and the preparation of the plane for priming.- 719 replies

Kaireckstadt replied to Trigger's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Wow that’s a huge amount of work you did Frank! The pit looks really awesome. Very nice detail you added and also the weathering looks spot on. The fit of the pit is also really nice! You did a great job so far! -
Nice progress on your build! The seat is really beautiful but in my eyes is still much too high when I look at the fotos. Since nobody will see it I would cut away a bigger piece from the bottom. The fit of the Isracast seat on the other hand is perfect. As you can see the upper edge of the seat is well below the upper edge of the fuselage. For the rework of the intakes you really need to have a good stash of sanding paper and rescribing tools. I‘ve already finished it as you may have seen in my posts. I‘m curious how you will go on.

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
I like the Mirage too! Especially the Swiss variant with the canards is really nice. Some of the big reworks (nose and tailcone) won’t be necessary since I want to build an RS: I also like the camouflage schemes of the 70ties and 80ties. Very colorful. Not comparable to the grey in grey in grey of today and many ugly planes... It won’t be one of the next I will build but it will also not be grounded forever...- 719 replies

Thanks Frank, this evening I will add the missing rivets and then I‘m close to priming. Have the landing-gear detailing still ahead but have a really good book for reference now. The books from Duke Hawkins are really nice.- 719 replies

Just saw this a couple of minutes before! Wouldn’t have missed it! Beautiful work so far, Peter ! The rockets and the launchers are really awesome! So are the seats! I‘m a Phantom Phanatic and will follow this one from the first row! Keep em coming Peter

That looks really great John! Absolutely flawless work! Is there a reason why you didn’t paint the wheel wells before? Isn’t an easy job now with the necessary masking!
-
Looking much better with paint ! The double-lion decals on the turret are really nice!! Curious how it will look like after complete assembly!

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Today I rescribed all panellines where necessary. Thank god to my tiger-saw this was a job which could be done within 3 hours: Still some small faults to be corrected but the main work is done. Finally I added the small stiffener plates which I sanded away when reworking the tail cone: Next thing to do is to add all the rivets which were lost during the sanding process. But that’s an easy task compared to the rescribing.- 719 replies

Thank you Frank! I love the Israeli 3-Tone Camo. Looks nearly as stunning as the SEA-Scheme! You could build an early F-4E or an F-15 or a F-16 Sufa (which I don’t like that much due to the humpback).- 719 replies

Good choice! That’s also the brand I use. Beautiful to work with. I think you don’t have to be nervous: when the painting only is as half as good as the scratchbuilding, it will still be gorgeous...
