Congratulations Gary to your new enterprise. I wish you (and the new owner) luck with the transport. Tha packing should do the job. Are you sure, somebody is paying for 'love', I can't imagine. Cheers Rob

Get rid of equalizers Kevin, they don't do any good for the sound of a solid hifi equipment. To much bad influences through the potentiometers. My amps don't even have a bass or treble setting and I don't miss it (not entirely true, my latest amp has the possibility of adjusting the sound, but I never used it). Tool is a band a bit off the trotten path, post prog rock / metal style. Cheers Rob

I love it, when the recording fits to the music, which is definitely the case with Fear Inoculum. There are so many great albums out there, which suffer only by the subpar production of the music. With Tool, everything clicks, powerful and detailed sound which even in the heaviest passages remains cristal clear. You are absolutely right about the drumming. It's great to hear drummers, who not only define themselves as a rhythm section, but an indispensable part of musical creativity. What happened to The Who without the driving force of Keith Moon or would The Police would have been the same without Stewart Copeland? Cheers Rob

I have only bad ones Peter, by the time I still had a big mistrust into digital photographing (which is not completely gone by now) and was mostly taking slides. The Corsair was my first model reentering the hobby and I wanted to do it right. I added a Brassin cockpit and engine along with the wheels. I wanted to make the cowls removable, as I wired the engine to show all the detail, but failed with that. I tried three different set of cowlings, the thinned kit ones, the resin ones from Brassin and some made of soldered brass parts, but it didn't work as I liked. In the end, I had to glue the cowlings in place. The markings were sprayed, using the great Maketar masks. It was quite a project for the first kit after a pause of maybe thirty years, but I loved it and the result was ok to my eyes. When I left Berlin, I gave the Corsair to a very good friend as a present. Cheers Rob

The new cartridge is only some grams, but the turntable has 25 kg onto a 15 kg slate base. I love big vintage amps, so I can feel your pain. I once had one set up for quadro sound, with a joystick for balancing the four channels, pretty cool. It had wooden sides and all the classic looks. Loved it, but the capacitors of amps are prone to ageing, sadly. Your turntable tweak doesn't sound hifi to me . Hopefully your dime isn't inflation ridden . Cheers Rob

Nice Kevin, is there a lifeboat on the first pic? Cheers Rob

Tamiya Spitfire MK XVIe

What a beauty Peter, you mastered the kit with your usual perfection and great presentation, chapeau. I'd like to call your building style tamiyaesque. Cheers Rob -
Nice catch Peter, I have built the birdcage as my first model, reentering the hobby, when it came out. I loved the kit and just today bought the -1A variant along with some goodies. I would have preferred the -D, as I never did a GSB paintjob, but there was a mixup with the dealer and now it's tritone -1A time. My favorite though is the birdcage with the early colors and only stars no bars, but I rarely do builds, I've already done. I hope for one of your magic WIP's on the gullwing. Cheers Rob

Muchas gracias hombres, seems to be a decent cartridge, but I have still a lot of testing and adjusting to do. Setting up a turntable is not an easy task, when it should done be perfectly. For pure relaxation, I put the also new Tool vinyl on last night and this is one of the best sounding records, I ever heard. Grinding metal / post prog rock, but with unbelievable detail and depth with absolutely clear focusing and soundstageing. Cheers Rob

Today, I wanted to settle on my bench and start some building and exactly the moment, I switched on the light, it honked in front of my house and the Transportista brought my eagerly awaited new cartridge for my turntable. The old one broke a week ago. I have a second turntable, but to be without my prime one, is like somebody gave you ten new WNW kits, but took away your Tamiya Extra Thin. No building time then, it's setting up the new cartridge an exhausting task to do, not knowing if it is a real success. After eight hours of adjusting and test hearing, it seem, like everything works and I have an able substitute for my trusty old Benz Micro Ace. Cheers Rob

Special Hobby Whirlwind

Interesting choice Peter, I'm eager to see, how the kit works out, but I have no doubt, it will be another beauty in your hands. Cheers Rob -
Hey, some silver and bronce medals, not too shabby Gary. I can understand your disappointment, but the judging is not judgable, there are criteria you don't even know about. That's why I prefer to be my own juror, I can tell best, if I met my expectations or not. When I want competition, I do sports, but even then, I prefer to battle with myself. Anyway, I think it's an interesting experience and raises some nervousness ahead of the votings and that's not a bad thing, but a un-weathered Gladiator,... Cheers Rob

Welcome to LSM Jacques and thanks for the warning about the 109 kit. I liked the looks, when I saw the firs pictures, but on closer inspection, I expected something like you experienced now. Have you tried different types of CA with the kit? After years of trying different CA glues, I found my personal favorite, it's Colle 21 from Spain. It doesn't cure rapidly, when applied, but on contact of the parts, it hardens fast. Therefore, it's very comfortable to work with. Cheers Rob

You will like the Quick Wheel masks. I used them on two builds and was totally satisfied. The smaller circle is sticky from the inside, where the foam part centers the wheel, a pffft with the airbrush later and all is done without running color. I triy to keep them as clean as possible while using, there are many Panzer III / IV derivates out there . Cheers Rob

Tamiya Spitfire MK XVIe
DocRob replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
That's beautiful Carl. I thought about a twin display with my two Eduard Spitfire XVI's. One flying in a post war racer outfit above one in camo on the ground, with open cowlings to show all my Brassin goodies. Cheers Rob -

Precious Spitfire you built there Peter. The finish looks fantastic, but I have question marks in my head about your interior decor. If your carpet monster is able to swallow large scale wheels, I would be afraid to even walk over it. One of that seventies nasties? Anyway, as much as I like the iconic elegance of the Spit, especially the XVI bubble top, I never liked it's looks with the landing gear out, probably the reason, why I never built one . (I know there is a stand in the box and a risen UC option) A ME BF-109 looks also silly on wheels, but then, the total design is not so appealing, compared to the Spitfire. Cheers Rob -

Cool looking messy truck Jeff. Love the contrast between CAT yellow and green hood. Cheers Rob -
I did myself a favor (and maybe you too ) and bought some instant display bases from Zoukei Moura. They are about 30cm in diameter and made of a kind of resin. They are pre painted as in ready to use. Some wooden floored airbase: Marsden boards: And some mixed stuff, suitable for planes or vehicles: For my next 'in between' project, I need some good masking liquid and will try this one. The brushes are a welcome addition in larger sizes. As horrible as the AK sable brushes are, I have to say I like their synthetic brushes. The last on, I bought only to have another person than Paul (me ) in that thread with a Tamiya kit. Seriously, this will be used with a ME-262, my Arado or Horten kit. It's the new incarnation of the Kettenkrad and looks good OOB. Cheers Rob

A stunner with teeth Carl. Cheers Rob -
I wish you all the best Gary, for the transport and for the show. I never had anything shown, other places than here, but would really like the feeling of anticipation and nervousness before a show, maybe one day... Cheers Rob

Great work on the Cruiser Kevin, the PE detail make the difference. I still have to venture into 'modern' ships, but have some in stash. Cheers Rob -

Your Spit looks awesome Peter, great paintjob and finish. The Tamiya Porsche 935 has Cartograph decals on board, the Ducati I built as well, so there is hope. The Ford GT had pre cut masks, if I remember right, lets see what the future will bring. Cheers Rob -

Your Dauntless is a true beauty and I really like the finish you achieved. I have some Ventura decals for RNZAF birds as well, good to see, that they work. Cheers Rob -

Hola Amigos, no iceberg, no storm, no pirates, just a summer draught. I have only very limited bench time in the moment and it feels hard to concentrate on rigging, when a zillion other subjects swirl in my head. I will do the DoK right and with a bit of passion, so I will continue, when there is a bit more time. I'm also travelling around for some days, where I'm not actively at the forum, I just don't like to post from my phone. Thanks for asking friends, but there's nothing to worry about. The lady will launched, sooner or later. Cheers Rob -
Thank you for the review of this interesting vehicle. I wanted to build a Puma and therefore, I was pleased to see the AK reissue. I have the Dragon kit 6786, which is the open topped variant with the 7,5 cm KWK. I thought it's the same base kit, but while I checked the box, I found some differences. In my kit there are PE covers for the already opened fender compartments and mine has pre bent metal brackets for the suspension. The better manual, decals and color chart is definitely a plus for the AK issue. Cheers Rob
