  1. ACROSS THE FINISH LINE VOUGHT OS2U-1 KINGFISHER MONOGRAM 1/48 SCALE 1967 USS ARIZONA 1939-1940 It’s been quite a journey traveling back to 1967, a lot more work then I expected and a few hurdles to over come but the Kingfisher is done and in the books. I still have a few small parts and bits to add but for now, I’m calling her finished and on her way to the display case. Of interest of the era was the prop tips, painted with Blue, Yellow and Red stripes. For such a tiny item, a few hours of work masking but happy how they came out. The outrigger floats from the second kit were well worth the extra expense and with paying extra attention to the delicate float bracing, went on just fine. What appear to be red lights on the wing tips actually are gas filler caps, as I deferred to Dana Bell and was amazed at what they were. There isn’t any navigation with the kit and to be honest, I never thought about adding them until now – way too late. The P&W radial was wired up with PE and looks pretty good. All in all, I’m very happy with how the Kingfisher turned out. I took my time working though the stress cracking and all is fine. Next up; the Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa. Final images and first in the Lets Get Wet Ready For Inspection Forum
  2. Ernie Yup, way too much brain exercise for an early Sunday morning. The more pics the better. One thing the last few images do show is the kits, the Chinese roundels are too small.
  3. Hi Ernie Yup, the hues and tones of the colors are all over the place and it seems the more we dig into the entire issue, the more confusing the mess gets. I seem to remember that on my search list there was a certain amount of input from Dana Bell based on his research but at this stage who knows any more. I'm really starting to think the variation in color is how quickly the paint reacted to and faded from the environment. Photos do show that the P-40's colors over time looked more even in contrast but that also could be from the film of the day as color film just wasn't very accurate and the colors faded and changed so quickly especially one exposed to light. B&W prints, even worse for color interpretation. Your P-40 looks so good, I consider your detective work on the colors to be "Rather Good" as Sherlock Holmes would have said to Dr. Watson. In my IPMS competition days, this is the major reason color interpretation was never allowed to be entered into the judge's decision.
  4. Gaz Nice progress for sure, dealing with the smaller parts and assemblies. Fascinated as well as to how the torpedoes were moved once on board, as there just isn't any hints of how the crew could lift and move such heavy armament at sea. Just also seems so careless on Airfix's part to pack the barrel of the 20mm AA gun, so it was bent to the point of needing to be replaced. Looking forward to the beginnings o the oil weathering as the next step. I am still a bit confused as to what the actual purpose of the Kaiser's linoleum is, since it seems to be a material that would be slippery when wet and wear down with a lot of walking on it. Nice clean masking on the '10' - looks good.
  5. Bill Looking might good and enjoy the sunshine in Florida for a wonderful month's long vacation.
  6. Phil Some very nice detail work as they accumulatively add to the overall fell of the model and give the eye new places to search and enjoy.
  7. Rob Good point, I didn't look at it that way.
  8. Ernie It's 1:30 in the morning - us old guys should be grabbing a few hours of sleep. Decal work look excellent. I'm not sure but the upper wing Chinese roundels still looks a bit small to me.
  9. Kev My condolences on the passing of your son's Godmother. You have had quite a week for sure and glad it's now behind you. The mines look fantastic, and you are surely in the home stretch. For your next build, that's a unique choice - I don't think I've ever seen one built before - going to be interesting.
  10. Carl Pretty awesome diorama - the effects are brilliantly done. Just didn't see the point of doing such a detailed build and then most of it is completely hidden in the explosion - modeling just the front third would have done the trick.
  11. Chris Take it from a guy who knows so pitiful little about figures. getting them into realistic stances and blending in, not to mention painting them as well, is no easy feat. It's certainly another difficult variable to deal with. At the point, maybe the best way to proceed, is just skip the figures and move on. Might just get the juices flowing again and lesson all the aggravation.
  12. Ernie How true as the skies have never been safer but the smells, sounds and romance are gone.
  13. Ernie No problems at all. Just enjoying following your build and progress.
  14. Rob Your progress is amazing and the hours of working with all the PE, has brough your Arizona already up to a new level. Simply fantastic work.
  15. Gus Looking mighty good and as with Carl, all my references show the demarcation line as feathered.
  16. Ernie Today it's an electronic world, MFD and computers, nothing like the old days when we all first learned to fly using our eyes and a compass. I'm sure as the world turns and time goes by, the skills of the pilot will change as well. I've read that airlines are now looking at single man crews, with the aircraft doing almost everything and someday, no pilot on board at all. As sad as it sounds, the romance will be gone and technology will have passed us by.
  17. Carl Sounds so very serious to me and nothing to take lightly. Other then living with the injuries, is there anything you can do to keep the symptoms from getting worse?
  18. Carl Perfect and what a great strategy. For now, I have my Border Lancaster box residing in a spot in our kitchen as it's so big I need to still find a place for it until she hits the bench. I can only imagine how big the Valkyrie actually is.
  19. Jeroen Very nice work on the front office
  20. Ernie Cammo work looks awesome and I do like what you have done with the colors; going to be a great base for some well weathered.
  21. John Just posted in the finished forum. Awesome build - so different and so realistic. Great idea and you pulled it off perfectly. 🏆
  22. John What a gorgeous and unique build - different and colorful. The attached photographs show how well you replicated the actual weather-beaten Corsair put out to pasture. Awesome work and just goes to show how taking a different approach to the subject can yield spectacular results. 🏆
