  1. Thanks Chris, I use Vallejo predominantly but had a brain fade and bought nearly the whole range of Xtreme Metals. In retrospect I’d wish I’d bought the Vallejo Metal Colour instead. The base coat is stuck on like glue now so I’m not even oven cleaner will fetch it off. The scheme I’ve decided on is an OD upper which I have some Xtracolour in OD and their faded OD. U/S I could try another Xtreme Metal ………
  2. Thanks Gus, I’ll remember about the Montex for the future…..I’m trying to source the LP1 now…..
  3. It’s close Kevin, it’s primed and ready. I bought some Montex masks so that’s going to be a first as well…….
  4. I thought it would look good with them down but……….live and learn…….
  5. This is weird, taking into account about masking adhesion etc. Thrown X20A and AK’s odourless thinners for enamels at two separate panels and…….nothing, will not touch. It’s literally baked on ……..I can even try scratching it with a nail after both panels have been soaked for 5 mins……..so my thought are now either can go on top…….
  6. Thanks Peter, I’ll try X20, that’s all I have. What’s your recommendation on the the Xtreme metals, mine came out very grainy? Too much air, not enough, I didn’t thin them? Really want to do the NFM…….
  7. Thanks Carl, I have X20 but no Mr Hobby thinner. I’ll give a panel a test to see how it comes off. Next order will be to buy some gloss black base primer. I really want to the 51 in NMF but concerned I’d #### it up again…..hmmmmm decisions…….
  8. Thanks Jeff, much appreciated. I was worried for a long time about this build but it’s a pure joy. I’d happily build it again….
  9. Finished work on Tuesday evening so Zero is in the booth right this second and Mossie next, just got to finish fitting the canopy masks and then we are set……
  10. During my absence I did kick on with the Mossie. It’s been primed, fettled and polished. Then I realised I didn’t like the dropped flaps. Luckily I’d put the rear nacelle cover panels on with PVA. Some scary surgery later, replaced support bars etc this is where I am. Now it’s ready to join the queue for the booth…..
  11. Thanks Rob, I think it was the black base that caused some of the problems in the first place. The only masking to be done are the invasion stripes, ZM include those as decals so could go that route. Not sure if the Xtreme thinner will effect the plastic, I’ll have to try a section. The fail safe is I guess is Vallejo…….
  12. I reckon the Xtracolour enamel maybe a little hot for it, maybe Vallejo is the answer……..
  13. Time to start some armour again. With P51D , Mosquito and A6M2 Zero in the booth a person always need a build also happening. Having built the Flammpanzerwagen half track, wanted to have another half track in the collection. Borrowed form PMMS - The 2cm Flakvierling 38 auf Selbstfahrlafette Sd.Kfz.7/1 resulted from combining the 2cm Flakvierling 38 with four Flak38 guns to the Sd.Kfz.7 half-track to allow greater mobility and firepower with the Sd.Kfz.7/1 carrying 600 2cm rounds on board and a further 1800 rounds in the towed Sd.Ah.56 trailer. The initial Sd.Kfz.7/1 had the Flakvierling 38 mounted on a central pivot mounting with later vehicles using the standard Flakvierling ground mounting secured by rachets on the rear bed. The later versions also included an armoured cab to better protect the crews. This is a stunning kit of 380 odd parts and Magic Tracks, the mouldings are very fine details. The only AM I’m adding is the Master brass barrels. This is where I am……
  14. Having put this on the shelf awhile ago it’s time to finish this. The reason it went on the SOD was I tried to spray AK Xtreme metals and failed miserably. The finish was grainy and just didn’t look good. All my own fault, just didn’t get it right. Anyway, sanded the whole model down and have chosen a scheme that doesn’t have lots of exposed NMF. The question is having put Xtreme black abase and then Xtreme metal over the top, could I use either Xtracolour enamels or Vallejo Model Air over the top. My reasoning is the Xyptreme have been on there for 2 years + so maybe not effect the next coat? Just do want another disaster. Would be interested in your thoughts.
  15. Well guys it’s been awhile, with bereavement, project deadlines, clients being PITA’s and life, some reasons for being MIA. Just an update, Mossie , I’ve posted that in the WIP. As for other stuff happening, with the Mossie in the spray shop I snuck in this. Lots of PE and a busy cockpit…… now ready for the spray booth Well recommend this but get the magnifier out the whole wingspan is the same as one Mossie wing from tip to wing root…….
  16. You can almost feel the weight of the track, nice touch with the dirt clinging to the horizontal surfaces…….awesome
  17. Rob, I tried it on a very thin bomb bay door jack and it was perfect. Just three strokes it covered and look instantly mirrored……
  18. Had a paint resupply and added this to the order. Blown away by the chrome finish it gives, amazing…….
  19. You should John, comparing the Mossie and HKM Havoc for basically the same money here in the UK, I know which one I’d rather have for engineering, fit and detail……….Mossie every time……
  20. Thanks Peter, the chutes are amazing for being cast resin. Not sure why Tamiya didn’t add the detail on the kit parts……..
