You have just been going through a VERY difficult time lately, and that is an understatement. That this has an impact on your modelling mojo is quite understandable. But it will pass, as you slowly overcome the pain of the recent evnts. One way to speed it up is to do something cathartic. Cruising along with loud music is one way. Or, as you have the taste for it and the opportunity, what about getting the guns out and venting off the frustration and anger (there must be some, even if you do not perceive it) by scaring the living hell of a target board, or of some rattlesnake ? Or in modelling, do something without self-inflicted pressure. That does mean something you just want to build OOB, without worrying for detail or accuracy. So it's not an airplane, you don't want trucks and armor that remind you of the work. Is it the same for a car kit ? Last time I built a kit without any other pressure than assembling and painting it well, I did a motorbike that I gave to a friend when finished. He was elated, and it was a good kit: big enough details, "straight" painting without weathering, and I could not care less whether the kit was accurate or not to reproduce the 1:1 prototype (I did not even look on the net for a picture of the said bike). Take care, my friend. We are with you. Hubert

Your modelimg choices, what spurs you on?
HubertB replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
I am the same. You know that, until my current wife encouraged me to keep my latest builds, I was "vertically filing" a finished kit after about 3 months shelf life ? What I have now on the shelves is a meager 3 finished kits, and a WiP stalled for 8 years (a scratch built Aichi Hansa) Hubert -
Your favorite Messerschmitt 109 Mk?
HubertB replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
In fairness, although it does not do anything for me, I reckon the 109 is a remarkable design : put a big engine in the nimblest possible airframe, and keep up-to-date with engine developments and combat experience. If I had to choose, I’d agree with you on the « F ». (And when Tamiya release a G-6 in 1/32, as I forecasted on LSP some 6 years ago, I can very well imagine the riots in the model shops and on-line retailers ) Hubert -
As usual, great attention to detail and execution Hubert

Your favorite Messerschmitt 109 Mk?
HubertB replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
I know this will sound heretic to many ... but this is about as far as I will go in my interest for the 109 ... (photograph published in The Mirror, showing the remnants of a wreck found in Denmark, reproduced under Fair Use conditions) Hubert -

Aircrafts and ships. Aircrafts : 1/32 scale. Civilians, Golden Age, Flying boats and seaplanes, racers, first and second generation jets up to the Century series, record holders. I also love yellow wings, and interwar silver wings of the RAF. I might be tempted by a helo, if it also fits the bills of the other criteria (like scale - a BIG NO to 1/35 - or livery). No-gos include any aircraft sporting a Nazi Swastika. Ships : civilians, pre-dreadnoughts, sailing ships. 1/200 or bigger scale, depending on the subject. The choice includes paper models, for which there are some outstanding kits. Hubert -
Arado 234 Nachtigall on Speed

I am anything but a specialist of Swastika-bearing aircrafts, but the logic would have the whole panel opening, with an oval window in the middle ... Hunert -
Trumpeter/HB 1/32 (TBD) (TBD) is completely off....
HubertB replied to Mikester's topic in Modelling Discussion
Now, that is a very nasty one ... For a second, I just thought there was a CAD work done on the TBD I am not sure I will ever forgive you for this one Hubert, still hoping a TBD will come, one day -
Has anyone tried Tamiya gloss coating varnish?
HubertB replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
No, I mean X22. Whether this product is the same, I have some doubts about it, but really don’t know, sorry. Hubert -
Has anyone tried Tamiya gloss coating varnish?
HubertB replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
I think X22 is lacquer-type. Works great with Tamiya thinner or Mr Levelling Thinner. And the end result is OUT-STAN-DING ...l beats Future and any other gloss varnish hands down. Hubert -
1/200 is a great scale for ships like batllewagons or liners ... Gotta love the presence of 3 to 6 feet ship model ! (And here again, Trumpeter seem to have understood if before any other manufacturer) Hubert

Revell Westland Lysander, thoughts?

The Eduard Lizzie is 1/48 ..., whereas the Revell/Matchbox is 1/32 ... Hubert -
Revell Westland Lysander, thoughts?
HubertB replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
Oldie but goldie. It started life as a Matchbox kit. So you get waht you should expect from an old Matchbox kit: some surface details on the heavy side, sometimes marginal fit, and a level of detailing that could be better given the scale, size, and glass-house. It can be made, with TLC, into a great rendition. But do not expect a Tamiyesque build. Hubert -
Let's start with a 1:1 F-14 Hubert

Nope. An old faithful in this field ... 1/32 only for aircrafts. Not even considering this abomination of 1/35. And that makes a sizeable stash already Hubert

So guys, all these discussions about 1:1 replicas, and ships, got me thinking ... I intend to build a 1/5 (let’s be reasonable and think about mooring fees ) replica of the most beautiful liner ever built, The Normandie . Of course, internal fittings will have to be adapted to make it usable ... As I have : 1) a faint idea about ship-building linked to my ship-modelling experience 2) no idea about real ship building requirements (well, some in fact, but I am too important to deal with such trivia) 3) no competence in steel-welding 4) not the first cent for this project I am counting on you all to do the work and money-supply for me...So, please (see, I am being nice) donate everything you can. And when it is finished, and I have all the pretty girls running after me, I will be the Ruler of the World ! How is that for a project ? Hubert

Hey, it just occurred to me that a new member here has his head so overblown and full of s#%&t that it could pass as The Moon in Ryan's 1:1 Moon-landing diorama Hubert

Methink you should do a 1:1 F-14 instead Hubert
