  1. Thank you, Rob! TBH I never knew about the tally bands before. I discovered them while doing research. You can see that they are worn very long: There are a lot of German marine traditions that I don't know or understand. Like, in every group photo, there is that one guy wearing white pants with the blue shirt.... and vice versa. Likewise, the fella in this pic above has a black hat... But these guys all have white hats in the colorized photo below. Thank you Peter. Yes, I've kind of put myself into a place where every build needs figures. Sometimes I wonder if it's wise.
  2. Very nice paintwork, Peter.
  3. well done, Dave.
  4. Oh yeah... Hate the 'crack'! For me it usually comes while I'm sanding the wings letting me know my glue joint has failed due to my heavy handedness.
  5. Gray and anti-fouling red? Sorry.... I'm being a jerk.
  6. Looking sharp! Jet aircraft stencils will drive you mad.
  7. Hi Everyone, Throughout the week I've been doing small things to creep production forward. I also created my own chasing and repousse bowl and tools from stuff I had around the house. My first attempt at the Reichs Eagle doesn't deserve a photo. I didn't have real pine pitch and substituted with melted and then cooled hot glue. Unfortunately, the metal outside of my tool was sinking along with the area under the tool. I rigged the conning tower and attached the mast. Painted up the life preservers and attached them. Added the maneuvering lights to port and starboard. The area near the lights was a bit of a boondoggle, with a few odd angles that led me to use too much extra thin. Four days later, a sink hole developed. I filled it with CA and sanded it smooth today. The torpedo clamps needed something so I referred to a picture to show me the way. The two bare loops holding the torpedoes in place look more detailed at least. Today was a big day. I added tally bands to the crews early style caps that are whipping in the breeze. I made these with the finest shavings I could get from a sheet of evergreen styrene sheet. They are very flimsy. And then I painted them as best I could. The uniform has three narrow stripes which I could only portray with one. I also rigged the railings today. Thanks for reading and for looking at the pics.
  8. Rob, Arizona looks so impressive under paint. Well done!
  9. Chris, This build is looking great. I'm looking forward to seeing the masking off. The big resin tail has me concerned about the effects of gravity. But all in all, yer nailing it.
  10. Live large, buddy!
  11. Damn... I just found this part of the group build section! Peter... Lovely job on the Kingfisher. Fantastic work with the paint and construction.
  12. Looks great!
  13. I still used stretched sprue too... but not for rigging. But the way my eyes are getting, I'm gonna need an alternative to threading tiny eyelets.
  14. Your mossie all in 'red' looks like a race plane. Funnily enough, it weighed more than the Messerschmitt Me-110 on engines of the same/close rating yet was so much faster. Shows the value in good aerodynamics.
  15. Nice progress, and those markings look wonderfully precise. Yeah... Willy and his horn braces! As a long-time 109 builder, I've learned to put those on dead last.
  16. Nice work, John. More bloody tube construction! Hopefully Hawker isn't still using it.
  17. Nice wear on those propeller bosses. I keep thinking about denting one up... buy usually forget at the critical time.
  18. Very cool! Stretched sprue rigging??
  19. Meh. Looks good until you hit the wing... then it's all downhill.
  20. Impressive work, Jeroen.
  21. Well, Martin look at you go. My mojo-less days also coincide with low amounts of forum reading. Had to do a major catch-up. Needless to say, I didn't expect any fusealge re-shaping.... but there you go surprising me again. Keep up the inspirational work.
  22. Just found this thread... glad everyone weathered the storm. Dog days of summer here. Temps 80-90's often with humidity. When I lived in Michigan, 80 was hot. Now, it's nice. While 70 is too cool to relax in. To raise the climate change argument... the last two summers have been much cooler than my previous 19 in Australia. I don't think I've seen temps this year to compare with the hottest days in Europe and the US this year.
  23. Just take some green paint you like and add some yellow. It'll be ok. Just make sure that it is more green than yellow to your eye.
