  1. Thank you, Peter! Hi Everyone! I've begun to work on the aircraft proper now that the pilots is ehhh.... completed. What started as and exercise to give the trailing edge of the main wings a trailing edge made me realize something special was missing. The characteristic droop of wing radiators and flaps when the bird is in a relaxed state on the ground. Of course nothing can go smoothly and I promptly ruined one of the radiator flaps when I misdirected my saw. So, I went to the (Trumpeter) spares box to get a spare and quickly found myself not only replacing all of the radiator flaps, but also the flaps proper. Truth is, by then I was considering using the ailerons, too. But, as they neared the wing end, I discovered that the chord was too narrow and I would have to use the kit ailerons from which I have sanded away the heavy-handed details. While those are in a state of drying I decided it was high time to dry fit the fuselage. A bit gappy about the wings, but nothing that can't be handled as long as I can avoid sanding off the Revell details. Despite my best efforts, my replaced detail never looks as good. Thanks for looking! Gaz
  2. Ugh... hate the smell of burning rubber!
  3. Kai, The Wash and decals look great. The large fuselage markings are my favorite Roundels on any aircraft. I always thought little roundels ugly. Looking sweet! would hardly know it was such an old kit. Gaz
  4. Hahaha... Took me a few minutes to figure out the 'screws' reference. I must be getting dense! Thank you! Thank you, Kai! My first mottles were done with the old Testors white plastic paint brushes. At the time, I thou8ght they were the cutting-edge of model paint brushes. Ugh! Pactra! I painted the old Monogram Zero and Monogram P-38 with Pactra silver. What a disaster! Thanks everyone! Gaz
  5. A man never let's his wife cook the steaks!
  6. HI Everyone, With me pouring most of my modelling energy into the Brummbär build, I haven't done much with this bird. Over the last couple of days I was able to spend a little time on the pilot. His face is a bit malformed, but my figure painting hasn't helped him, either. For your entertainment I present: FRANKENPILOT!! I haven't detailed his boots as they'll never be seen again. Hopefully some day my figure painting won't be so bad. Thank you for sharing my nostalgic trip. Gaz
  7. What an interesting Topic/build! I'm glad you have a color photo. I was planning to wall-mount the Monogram B-29, so I needed to increase it's structural strength, and transfer that strength downward. Here is a link to my solution: https://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=244807&ord=&page=5 Maybe you'll find it useful. You'll want to scroll to the bottom of the page. Will watch your build with interest! Gaz
  8. Great recovery! You're really kicking ass with that rivet tool! Gaz
  9. That's cool... Would be nice if more history could be found on the bird. Thanks for sharing. Gaz
  10. Oh yeah... forgot about the Horten. Gaz
  11. Thank you! That's an old Fujimi kit I bought for $9 at a model show, still in cellophane. Ernie, I try to avoid PE whenever possible. The only brass on my 410 is tubing I used to replace the oleos after I shortened them to get a weighed-down look. Still... it nearly passed my interest period: The time allowed on one build before another one completely captures my imagination. Thank you, Kev!
  12. Great Progress, Harv! Glad to see you closer to finishing that B-25. Gaz
  13. Welcome Peter! I'm amazed you have just finished kits you started back in the 70's. Gaz
  14. Filling and guessing about lead is stressful. Last nose-sitter I did was an HE-219. I was sticking lead everywhere forward of the MLG axis that I could. I hate to imagine how heavy that beast will be when you're done. Gaz
  15. Love seeing those ammo belts in there.
  16. Love the added strip detail! I also think the insides look pretty good. Where did you find lead rod? I always seem to have to go to a bait and tackle store to find lead. Gaz
  17. That looks so sci-fi! Thanks for posting!
  18. Thank you, Peter! I'm really enjoying this build. Gaz
  19. Thank you Phil! The base coat is Tamiya Buff XF-57 mixed with Tamiya Flat White at various ratios close to 70/30. To pick up the edges and details a little, I added a tiny bit of Tamiya Red Brown XF-64 into the mix. I was suggested to try the buff by fellow club member because we both felt that Tamiya Dunkelgelb weathered up too darkly after washes, filters, and a matte coat had been applied. Hope you find this useful! Gaz
  20. I'm sure someone will make a backdating kit.
  21. Brilliant job, Tom! What a looker! Gaz
