Brummbär! I beg your pardon! 27/Dec/18
GazzaS replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Spent some time today increasing my eye strain and trying to paint details. Instead of being tied to one of Dragon's three almost identical camo schemes I decided to do one that has been in my head since I was a teen. I've become totally unsure about rusted mufflers of late. So, my reasoning here is to rust only the part that would have gotten rained or dripped on. It'll get a heavy dose of pastels later. If you think your eyes are seeing hints of red in the axles of the spares, you'd be right. I saw a picture of a captured example and noticed that the bearings had been coated with a layer of protective grease. Whether this was modern grease or WWII vintage grease... I have no idea. I hit all of the canvas cover tarp clips with a bit of steel to make them standout. Fortunately for me, some of this Stürmpanzer's pioneer tools must be hidden. I only primed the metal schürzen plates today and will probably hit them with paint either late tomorrow or Saturday. Thanks for looking! Gaz -
I thought he was always at your house?

Painting up nicely! Gaz -
I have five pairs of glasses. Prescription Trifocals, 2.5X reading glasses. 3X reading glasses (used the most). 3.5X reading glasses. (all three bought from the local Chemist for $20 each. And a custom pair of 4.82X reading glasses I had made by the Optometrist. The 4.82X glasses have a working distance of 20cm, so there is no point of getting anything stronger because 5X and above is watchmaker territory, and the working distance is dangerously close. The 4.82X glasses I got especially for rigging biplanes and other rare circumstances. They cost $89. I bought an optivisor and found it cumbersome and not suited to my needs at all. One problem I often find with hobby-specific magnifiers is that they are made for people whose eyes are closer together than mine. I'm a big guy and find that stuff made for 'the average guy' just doesn't work for me. Gaz

Thank you, Rob! Except for my 35 year hiatus from models where I was trying to find a hobby, models is my main distraction. Thanks, Carl. I belong to a SIG armor club. I think I should get more armor done this year. Thank you, Jeff! The Albatros is my favorite WWI aircraft. I have three in the stash, 1 Roden and 2 WNW.

Those seats are indeed amazing. I'm impressed by the level of detail! Eye strain sux. I have four separate pairs of eyeglasses for each level of detail. Isn't it better to dream about models than to dream about work? Good job man, keep rocking! Gaz -
Thank you, Sir! I still feel I should have accomplished more. Gaz

HI Everyone, A few retrospective posts made by talented modellers made me wonder exactly what I completed in 2018. Here we go: January Completed this Alby on my birthday March 22 These two in June Leutnant Wolff's Alby in July July These two in August September And my last completed for 2018 in November. I have three kits in Progress, and two kits that got started but ended up in the garbage or the spare parts bin. I hope you all have fun and productive 2019's! Gaz

Ernie, TBH I never knew the answer to your question myseklf, so I did a little googling to find the images and link below. I had to look to find the first four images at the Ubisoft forums. I can't verify the profiles with photos. This link is on a FLICKR site. A museum bird : Here is the FLICKR link: https://www.flickr.com/groups/f-104_starfighter_german_luftwaffe_marine/pool/page1 I found the 2 images immediately above on page two... there are a lot more pages. For the F-86 I found this one built by Hubert. But haven't seen any real pics to document it. Hope you find it motivating! Gaz

I got three large 1/48 kits plus one still in the mail. ICM MiG25PD, ICM Dornier Do17Z2, Dragon Ju88C6. A bottle of single malt scotch, some clothes, and some novels. I'm not much of a scotch drinker bt I guess I'll have to find a way to enjoy it. Best thing was watching my 2-year-old granddaughter with all of her presents. Gaz

Brummbär! I beg your pardon! 27/Dec/18

I tell you little story... I was teenage boy... Just bought Tamiya Marder II... It comes with foldout mini Tamiya catalogue... In catalogue is Brummbär, and camoflage looks like block pattern. This is not box art, mind you. But one that someone has built (if memory serves). I carry image of this through my adult life and still remember it today. ...sorry... Watching doco on Vladimir Putin.... Anyway... Some base coat, some color modulation, and finally the blocky camoflage. Pictures... Thanks for looking!! Gaz -
I agree that we need more than paint. But just like real metal, light and canvas react differently depending on lighting and your viewpoint. While I'm not suggesting using real cloth, it is real easy to make ugly preshading for fabric. Having only done a couple of canvas birds, I can't say that I've been completely pleased with the outcome, yet. Gaz

My Christmas Haul: Even though they aren't large scale. I'm going to have to build a custom display. Right now I can't fit anything larger than a 1/48 P-47 so my few LSP's and recent twin engined builds are dust collectors.

Or you can take files or grinder or sandpaper to a set you have that you don't like, and custom make your own.

You're a great bunch of guys! I wish a very, Merry Christmas to you and yours! Gaz
