Special Hobby Whirlwind

Excellent paint job, Peter! It really highlights a lot of structure on top of the wing. It really feels like you're getting close to the finish line. -
Didja buy it yet? I had mentally heralded the single-piece stabilizer as some great engineering. After years of wiggling and adjusting, finally a flat tailplane. but once I got to dry-fitting the entire empennage, the future wasn't looking so bright. My first thought was that this model had just become a G6 instead of a G14. So, I assembled the short horizontal stabilizer and discovered it wasn't very much different than the taller tail. My next thought was that I could saw the vertical stabilizer in half and reassemble it making it narrower. However, the fault is of different width at the bottom side of the vertical stabilizer assembly. So... There will be some modelling required. I will put some shims on the inside of the stabilizer to fill gaps. Then, I will file and sand the offending areas to shape. Heh... all of that stuff we have been hoping to avoid. In other news.... One of the great things about the directions is a blue highlighted area to point out gluing surfaces. So, I glued the cockpit in as directed. And then decided to check the directions regarding an interior frame I had purposely omitted. Seems you need it to hold on the ventral plate under the cockpit. So, I added it. i It also helps determine the height of the after end of the cockpit deck. Much to my chagrin. I discovered that the first aid access hatch was too easy to sink too deep into the side of the fuselage. So, I had to pry it out carefully and shim it up. So... I implore you. Don't follow the directions. Attach the first aid access hatch before you close the fuselage up. I also put Mr. surfacer over the sink marks I pointed out earlier. Now to let it dry. Meanwhile... I'll start back on the wings and ruminate further on the empennage mess. Happy modelling!

Now just needs some desert tan and some chocolate chips... and some carelessly applied USMC stencils... then it will look really tough.

Yay! Paint time! Looks good, man. -
I actually have the new PZ II C and PZ IV G on the way from Praza Japan.

The New Generation Tamiya kits are worth buying just for the figures. I wonder how many great figures get thrown in the can every year cuz some guys don't build them. My Dragon kits all need figures. it's hard to find them economically.

Thank you, Peter. It is a great kit... I don't know much of the molding process. But I imagine those small sink marks are caused by a contractor. I will use Mr. Surfacer. I don't use it very often because it shrinks so much when drying. Thank you, Phil. I rarely buy a kit because a manufacturer makes good kits. I'm more subject driven. For instance... All of my WNW kit's sport crosses and I have none with roundels. The only roundel-bearing kit I'm contemplating is the new Kotare Spit. I prefer the Mk.I above all of the others and have had little impetus to buy the later marks offered. If they get around to a Mk,I Hurri... I'll get that one, too if the Spit lives up to the hype. Thank you, Rob. Not really putting blame on ZM... just sharing the news. Stuff happens. I imagine someone operating the molds wanted to go to smoko.

Very nicely done!

Welcome back my friends. With the few hours not stolen from me by life's duties, I managed to get some things done. First of all...I sanded the dorsal and ventral seams. So that I won't have to scribe them later. I hate scribing... especially on a curved surface. Once that was done, I filled an excess filler port with black CA and discovered the first flaw.... Unfortunately, there is one on the port side as well. I'll get to them once the fuselage halves are solidly joined. Last night I put in the bare bones of the fuselage framing. Somebody mentioned being forced to add the tail gear before closing up the fuselage. It's just not so. All you have to do is swing it in at the correct angle so that the top and bottom locator lugs fit snugly. 6 Then you just add the fillet H-6 per the directions, as I have done below. (dry-fitted) You can even add the fuselage tub after sealing the back half together.... Though, I didn't use the fuel cell which may complicate things for the more detail-oriented person... though I doubt it. Happy modelling!

A few years ago, Mr. Toys in Springwood had both the 111H and Ju-88A for 158AUD each. So.... knowing that all the fellas at TOS were complaining continually about the difficulty of finding/buying both kits, I posted an article saying that I would be the agent of anybody wanting to buy either or both, they would just have to pay postage and cost of the model... And nobody said a dang thing. So, there are always ppl who complain about wanting and not finding... but they usually don't want to pay, either.

Holy shit, Rog! That's some haul. Bummer about the crushed cartons. I hate weak packaging myself.
