  1. I “borrowed” these pics off another website. CA ANG bird
  2. My “other bench” at home. Few years back I made a headboard for my daughters bed. Now she wants a foot board to match it. Out came the table saw, plainer and jointer… And of course the rain came a day early and the ‘66 sat out in the rain. Extra points if you can spot the model kit in the pic.
  3. Whaaatt? A single stage siphon airbrush? You can’t build/paint models with that. You gotta have the latest and greatest whiz bang triple stage pressurized gravity feed airless 400 psi gun to do it the right way.
  4. I’ve heard pros and cons about using ultrasonic cleaners on airbrushes. FWIW, I have a very high end cleaner in my shed. They were tossing it out at work and I volunteered to carry it to the dumpster. I might give it a shot.
  5. Yesterday I did a YouTube search of Iwata HP-CS cleaning out of boredom. Glad I did. I’ve always removed the back of the handle, loosened the needle nut and pulled it out the back to clean it. And I was wondering why it was getting gummed up and hard to pull out. 🤡 Removing the nozzle and pulling it out the front doesn’t wipe all the paint off the needle and pack it into the back half of the airbrush. I feel so much like a maroon now. When in doubt, YouTube it!
  6. Try isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip a bit on the dry/moist side. It worked great to get it off my sons face when I picked him up walking down the street after his 18th birthday party. Perfect opportunity wasted by me. I should have taken him out to Waffle House for breakfast before telling him.
  7. I had a 1971 Monkey growing up. Dad brought it home from Japan and since he was the Loadmaster, it was kind of easy for him. When they came out with the new 125 it was all I could do not to buy one.
  8. It’s not silent, but pretty darn quiet for a compressor. Especially one with an air tank. At the end of the run cycle, pressure switch that releases the air will get your attention though. If I had a tv running near me, it would not be a problem.
  9. How about under my bench? I decided enough of my loud “airbrush” compressor. This old beast was designed and used for pneumatic handicapped door openers. Saved it from the dumpster and tried to weld up the rust hole in the tank. It got to the point of just being too loud when things are very quiet. It would actually startle me sometimes if I wasn’t expecting it to turn on. Soooo.. Took a trip to Harbor Freight and bought this. Ahhhhh….much quieter now. $160 OTD with my coupon.
  10. Same here. Wow! That is cool!
  11. Sprayed the Matt black this morning and untaped. Still got a few fuzzy tape edges to clean up
  12. Got the blue on today, but taping and masking was a test of patience area behind and in front of cockpit get flat black blended in as well as under rear canopy section.
  13. My kids could care less about models. Tools, gun collection and the old ‘66 Mustang? Boys are claiming dibs already on guns and tools. Even my youngest daughter spoke up a few months back that she’s very sure her husband would like in on the action with the collection of guns. He was a cop for a short time. We’ve already decided we’re going to have to sell the Mustang just to keep peace. Besides, at this stage in their life they don’t even have room for it. Both boys and youngest daughter are in apartments. Oldest daughter has a garage, but because her husband is not the most motivated or brightest bulb when it comes to mechanical things, no way in hell that car will go to them. FWIW, I’m not dying here, still a few months shy of 60 and in good health. No plans on checking out soon. Just planning ahead before I’m too crazy to think about it.
  14. No, not about selecting out you coffin or urn. But your stash. Your collection. Your built models. I know a lot of guys just don’t care, won’t be their problem. But this month marks the second year since my mothers passing and the almost two years of probate and everything we have been through to clean out her estate. Mom was a hoarder of QVC/HSN items. We had 3 storage units we had to liquidate. Even the thought of me bringing another kit into our home sends my wife into a rampage because I have 24 large moving boxes full of them from the move. She even wants me to keep them packed away in the boxes until I want to pull one to build because “it will be easier for her to haul them to the dump.” Her words, not mine. LOL! This doesn’t include the dozen or so that found their way into the home since we moved. Her cousin up in NC is in the same boat. Her husband has probably 500+ kits in a “warehouse” in their home. And I’m sure a bunch of you guys here are in the same boat. She said she just calling someone with a dumpster to come clear them out. Im sure a lot of you have hard to find kits that would be a tragedy to throw in the dump. Out of production kits, Fisher resin kits, etc. I’d rather give them away than see them become landfill fodder. First off, I’m not a member of a modeling club/IPMS society, etc. We live out in the middle of BFE. A massive advertised model garage sale is out of the question. Besides, after dealing with Moms crap, I would never put that on anyone. I’ve been watching some of the vendors we buy from like Squadron and Hobby Nut Models. It appears as if they are selling “used” kits. Or rather pre-owned stashes. Has anyone had a conversation with a vendor about this? Seeing that Squadron is now in North Ga, it’s an easy drive for them if the right deal is made. My thoughts on what I would like to see done. After I’m gone, wife makes the phone call to vendor. They jump in a truck, make the trip to the house. Wife/family points out all the hobby items to them. No inventory necessary. Just take it all, go back to your business and do the inventory and mail a check to my estate for what they feel leaves them plenty of meat on the bone to make it worth their time. Not sure of anyone else’s situation, but it’s not about the value of what they are picking up, it’s the peace of mind to the family that they don’t have to deal with it. That burden alone is worth the price of admission. Built models? I’ve told my wife to contact local high school ROTC programs to see if they want them. Or a VFW post. As far as my display case, it was hell getting it in the house and it took the largest U Haul truck due to height issues and four guys had to pick it up and roll it into the back of the truck. Ramp was too steep and wrong angles. She said as far as she’s concerned, the display case will go with the house one day. Sorry for the morbid subject but I’m just thinking out loud here about things.
  15. Discovered another use for them last week. I had sprayed white lacquer into the wheel wells of my latest build and I forgot to plug the holes to keep paint out of. Dip the micro applicator in some lacquer thinner and wipe out the paint in the holes. Had to act quickly though. The thinner was dissolving the glue that holds the fuzzys on the end of the stick. Used one to get the thinner in the hole, another to wipe it clean. A cotton swab wouldn’t have even come close to fitting in the hole.
  16. Hard to believe it was two weeks ago today it was pulled. I’m still having some minor discomfort but thankfully Tylenol or Motrin keeps it ok. Big hole in gums is slowly filling in. Yea, that meme above? That would seriously be my youngest daughter. Oh, and our furniture/appliance outing mentioned? Yea, that set us back $11,000. Now I know why she took me out while I was numbed up.
  17. Supposedly it’s the torque converter they’re waiting on. He said they have them for the diesel powered trucks like mine, but not a big demand for the 351W motors in a 1990 F-250 these days. They are having to make it.
  18. Taped! sprayed… And untaped For some reason she’s sitting tail heavy. Hat to lay the tweezers on it to sit. Never had an F-16 build do this. Got a few fuzzy edges on the paint lines I need to correct before moving on to the blue.
  19. Peter, I’ve almost been there myself. My Fisher Cougar almost met the same fate right near the end. I walked away, poured myself a good stiff Scotch and relaxed a bit. Had to keep reminding myself that building models is fun and relaxing. All I could see was $$$$ and I think that’s the only reason it survived.
  20. Cold front coming in. We’ve got 25 mph hour winds blowing in across the lake. Hard to rake leaves in that wind! Besides, my old truck has been in the transmission shop for three weeks now waiting on parts. I’m missing out on the best weather to get anything done around here. My biggest dilemma now is do I wear shorts with a high of 61 (16.1 C) or do I put on pants for the first time this year?
  21. I started out with Tamiya white primer and let it dry a day or two. Then lightly scuffed out any dust spots are dry areas with 800 grit wet. Laid down many coats of white MRP. That stuff dries flat or semi-flat. I wanted some gloss so the tape would stick better for the other colors so I sprayed on a couple coats of Mr. Color white with leveling thinner. Had a good enough gloss for the tape to stick to better. White is tough. Sometimes you can’t tell if the paint is thin or if your trying to fill a shadow. Hardest color to spray. Gotta watch the paint as it hits the surface and not where you’re going as much. I learned that painting cars. Trust your instincts. Son called me last week telling me they were about to paint a car. Not sure if they wanted to go white or gray. Told them the same thing as above and recommended gray for their first paint job.
  22. Shot the red on the tail this afternoon to try out the SMS line of lacquers from Australia. Seems to shoot a bit on the thick side. When I shoot the wings I’ll add a little Mr. Color leveling thinner. I actually had to wet it pretty good with almost straight thinner to get it to smooth out. Basically emptied the airbrush and filled the cup halfway with leveling thinner and used a brush to mix the old paint in the cup with the thinner then hosed it on. Also started taping off the wings so I can shoot the red tomorrow.
  23. I will add, as the same with the old Revell kits, I’m having a hell of a time blending the wing to fuselage joint. And I think I’ve gotten a little more anal retentive since I built all 7 of those years ago.
  24. Quoting myself here. I discovered I did splurge on that nose correction when I went through my aftermarket stash the other day. Glad I didn’t get in a bidding war and win it.
