  1. It's a work in progress. Besides, it give the passenger something to hold on to.
  2. I decided that with the heat, I should add AC to the Beat. The install wasn't that bad:
  3. It was for a XVI I built a couple years ago. As @HubertB mentioned, it was for a warbird. I got the colour info from an LSP member who worked on the actual plane.
  4. Peter, great start on the Spitfire. The cockpit looks fantastic. I like the idea of mixing and matching the AM and using what suits the particular detail the best. For something different, how about painting the Merlin red with chrome covers? Oh and Tamiya's first WWII kit was the Zero, followed by the Spitfire. Carl
  5. Definitely great news there Martin. Almost makes me glad to hear you didn't become a foster fail.
  6. Gave the engine a pass with a wet rag. Looks a bit better. Ran the car last night for 15 minutes and no leaks and the temp held steady.
  7. That's what living in Toronto is. Two seasons a year: winter and then construction.
  8. The engine bay could definitely use the wash. So could my boys. Looking up the steps to remove the manifold made it look straightforward. Except where they don't tell you one bracket you have to remove is underneath the car and not on top. Good news is I got the part out. Here's the hole the coolant was leaking from. Needless to say it's the wet spot. Got it all back together with the offending but replaced. Now to do a coolant flush, put the front end back on and we'll be back in business. Martin, the funny thing is prior to the Element I didn't really work on our cars. Just left it to the dealer. But so many new cars you need a Master's in computer science just to change the oil. So it's kind of nice having a car that's more mechanical than computer.
  9. Sorry to hear that Mark. Never easy to lose a pet. They're truly become parts of our family. Carl
  10. Shouldn't be a problem. Between my two boys, I have 4 healthy kidneys to pick from. Carl
  11. So an update. Didn't find what the part is called but did find a diagram of it and showed it to the parts desk at the local stealership. They found the part number and I duly ordered the bit. $107 plus tax. Then out of curiosity I asked the service dept how much to install it. First quote was $800, then revised to $1200 as they realized there's a lot of work involved. So I passed and am now in the process of disassembling the Element. At this point, the only way to get the line out is to pull the intake manifold. And that's where I am for the moment. I can now actually get to the hard line. Oh and found a dead bird stuck between the rad and condenser.
  12. Welcome aboard Ernie. We're a crazy bunch but glad to have you. Carl
  13. I was about to complain that gas in Toronto is $2.06 CAD a litre but Hubert, you win. So instead, I'll complain about this: Drove home from a job yesterday to the sound of hissing. Though I had a puncture but turns out it was much worse. There's a leak in the coolant system. A hard line that's part of the throttle body coolant line had a pinhole leak in. Worse part is it's underneath the intake manifold. So I'm now trying to figure out how to get to it and what the part is actually called so I can order a replacement.
  14. They're called lungs. At least that's what I use.
  15. Congratulations on the 25 years of service Mark! Carl
  16. Sad news. Rest in peace. Condolences to Judy and the rest of his family. Carl
  17. Peter, it's a fantastic tool. Very well made. I got it when they originally came out. It replaced a cheaper version from another manufacturer. There's a separate tool/template that allows you to keep the tool positioned in the same spot and then adjust the diameter. Perfect for roundel. Also if you make multiple passes (rotations?), you can cut circles in thinner sheet styrene and cardboard. Carl
  18. Nice progress Bill. Glad to hear the Future worked. I might have to try and find some. Carl
  19. Scott, I see your cats are like ours. Nice fix on the Cougar too.
  20. Time to start saving my pennies. Oh wait, they're not legal tender any more.
  21. I like the first one. Is the maple leaf going to be in a gloss black with the rest in matte? That would be a subtle touch.
