  1. And we're off! Can't wait to see how you do with this build.ine stalled as I think somehow I got the dihedral wrong. No idea how but it looks like a as Corsair. Hope yours goe better.
  2. Some great progress Rob. The colours are definitely not what I would have expected. They make for a much more visually distinctive ship. It's interesting to see the new information come to light after all these years.
  3. You're making great progress Phil. These kits definitely require planning ahead for paint and assembly.
  4. The Typhoon looks great John. Another build up to your usual standards. Now only if we could get one in 1/32
  5. Mig makes a panel wash they label for RAF bombers which had back undersides. It's a dark brownish grey. That would probably work well on the PBY.
  6. Gary, the cockpit parts look fantastic. Love the paint and decals job you've done so far and it's nice to see the kit is living up to expectations.
  7. Had to go looking for my scribing templates. Took some time finding them but I did and they helped with some of the shapes. I'm starting to wonder if the reason the kit has the mixed raised and recessed panel lines is that the original project went over budget. The rear of the fuselage is partially engraved and then the main panel lines are raised. Anyways, they're all engraved now. Just have the lower section to do which is the biggest part.
  8. Chris, it always look great when the masks come off. You could say the insignia have faded in the sun. Wouldn't be completely implausible. Maybe give them some chipping to sell the weathered look.
  9. I still haven't taken the plunge into big ships. Just the Vosper which I'm taking a pause on and the Type XXIII. Nice to see others following through on the subject though and learn from them.
  10. Best I've seen in Canada was on sale for $900 CAD with free shipping. Which is about $650 USD.
  11. Thanks for the update Scott. How is the auto parts clear like smell wise? I keep trading about the 2K clears but their toxicity means they're a no-go for me.
  12. Got a couple kits from Sprue Bros today. I ordered them back in Dec but had them sent to my sister in Wisconsin to save on shipping. We were going to visit this past week as it's March break here in Toronto but my other sister decided to go instead so she brought them back for me. Fitting into my "planes with big guns" interest, the recent ZM release. Sorry, it still has the tissue wrap on it. The other one is the WNW Camel kit I meant to buy when they closed down. I got the Duelist boxing by mistake. If I'm going to build a Camel, being Canadian, I thought it ought to be Roy Brown's plane.
  13. Nice! I picked up the recent Eduard rebox of the Hasegawa B-25s so hopefully will get to them one day.
  14. That will be a fun quick build. Guess that's not the surprise for the Seaview.
  15. Lol. Thankfully, the Akutan Zero doesn't need a T-6 wing. It does get a USN two tone grey camo scheme with stars though.
  16. Mike, I'm hoping it's all I need. Oddly enough, there's been a bunch of AM released recently for the kit. Aerocraft does a resin canopy and brass gear and Reskit is doing burner cans.
  17. Go for it! You're doing the Revell and I'm building the Tamiya so they're different enough. As for Zeros, the Tamiya I have is going to end up as the Akutan one.
  18. Our guy watches while I scoop the litter box and the instant I'm done, it's "Thanks dad!" and he jumps in to use it. Can't wait for the big reveal.
  19. Thanks guys! It was fun finding it all and seeing what I'd done in the past.
  20. There are another two but I have idea what they're from. Lastly, there was this body shell from a 1/24(25?) Monogram stock car kit. That's as far as I got with it. I think the rest of the kit is around somewhere. There's more in the cold room I need to dig out but I don't have the space at our house for it so it'll have to wait a bit longer.
  21. I was at my folks place tonight and went in the cold room to get something when I found some miniatures I'd painted at least 30 years ago. They were from a couple series of RPGs, one called Jovian Chronicles, the other Heavy Gear and were made locally. They're all mechs done in white metal. This is probably my favourite of the Jovian Chronicles ones.
  22. Great review Ernie. Thanks for the history on the type, particularly the origin of the type. It's definitely going to be a beast when done. I'm looking forward to when you start your build.
  23. The Tamiya kit has two issues with it that show its age. The first is the complete lack of side console detail in the cockpit. They're basically flat and Tamiya would have you use decals to represent the side consoles. The resin cockpit takes care of that. The second one is even more of a head scratcher. The fuselage aft of the cockpit has raised panel lines. The forward fuselage and wings are recessed. No idea why they did that. So a re-scribing is in order and that's where I've started.
  24. Probably one of the best angles for the Tomcat.
  25. Ok, I think most of us are of an age where we'll recognize that quote. Just in case anyone needs a refresher: The Final Countdown was the film that established my love of the F-14 Tomcat, well before Top Gun. Tamiya and Revell then obliged with 1/32 kits shortly thereafter. I had both and mangled both in my youth. So besides being my favourite hairdryer, this is a re-do of my first try at this venerable kit almost 40 years ago. A few years ago, I managed to pick up a copy of the original release with a Teknics resin cockpit set for $100 CAD. Then found another one for even less. Some of the AM including the all important HAD decals for the VF-84 Tomcats used in the film. I ended up adding a set of Aires burner cans, wheels and a bit more miscellaneous bits.
