Building the Wingnut Wings JUNKERS D.I By Ray Rimmel WWI Modelling Special n.º 6 Available in http://www.windsockdatafilespecials.co.uk/ The "Building the Wingnut Wings" series are already a mark and a must to all WnW models. There were several titles already and all of then were and are a reference in the way you can build a WnW like a master. This title is in the same editorial and design line as all others so you get lots of details and explicit text of how to do it all step of the build, accompanied with construction pics (which I would like that would be bigger) and some very nice detail shots of the real aircraft taken from various museum type. The model in deep on the volume is the new Junkers D.I. In fact, for what I read from modelers that already build this one, is that the D.I is probably the easiest model from WnW. So let`s see what this book has to give us. The cover is the Ray`s WnW D.I with some digital work on the back, showing the Ray`s great work and the D.I quality. So, along 43 pages, Ray brings us six sections: Part I – Inside the box; Part II – Building the WnW Junkers D.I Part III – Marty Digmayer`s Pull Out 1:32 scale Plans Part IV – Harry Woodman`s Junkers Archive Part V – The Sole Survivor Part VI – Appendices & Dedication The part I is an inbox review with pictures of the model sprues. The Part II, Ray described all the construction on this simple kit. Some good information is given with illustrations of the elevator (from Practical Flying) that can be used for super detailing. A special focus on detailing the engine Daimler-Mercedes180HP D.IIIa with the Taurus detail set and barracuda studios intake manifold. Some nice tips and some fantastic details pictures of the real thing. Finishing the chapter, some good tips to get a good camouflage result, paints used and 3 beautifully profiles. Part IV are some very useful 1:32 Junkers D.I pull-out plans from Marty Digmasyer with starboard side view, underside view, plan view, front view and port side view. Part IV is for me, the main part of this manual with some fantastic historical pictures from Harry Woodman`s Junkers Archive. Some of them, is a great reference. Part 5 is a walkaround of the sole survivor in Le Grand Gallerie of the Musee de l`Air e I L`Espace at Le Bourget, France. While the lacking of armament and strange markings, it´s the only game in town. The last but not the least, the part 6 is the dedication, more than deserved to Harry Woodman and the aftermarket accessories that give a good perspective of what you can buy to enhance your D.I. And to finish in high, some aeronautical engineering information and drawings of the D.I. CONCLUSION: The theme of the title was a surprise for me, mainly because of the subject and the model itself does not offer any particular difficulty to the modeler, being a perfect model to enter in the WnW Word. However, the info inside, the plans, the 1:32 camouflage drawings and the technical info are super and a really add up to your build. So if you want to get more info about the D.I that allows to add up the details on your model, just buy it. It’s well worth it. Review copy compliments of Ray Rimell at Albatros Productions.

Tommy and Lazy Donkey 1:35 Royal Model (Catalogue n.º 790) Price Tag: 39.90€ ( 24 resin parts and a small PE sheet) Tommy and lazy donkey represents a caricature and humorous situation, perfectly plausible. In this set, we have 3 elements represented in the box art. Tommy, the donkey, and the wagon. The soldier stands in a comical posture with his hands on his hip and a smile on his face. The face has fun expression well achieved. All the posture is of fun and dialogue with the Donkey. And the donkey's attitude is really laziness and some irony that seems to appear from the donkey's expression. The detail of Tommy's clothing and his hat is immaculate. The donkey, beyond its expression of scorn, has delicious details in its saddle. At the anatomical level, both figures are very good and well achieved, attentive to the intended objective. The whole posture of the scene is really spectacular, being the center of any diorama in which it is part. The wagon is of complex construction with several pieces in resin and the decoration inferior in photo-etched. This small photo-etched sheet provides this lower decoration which is an interesting and demonstrative detail of the attention given by Royal Models. The entire lower structure is in resin with well-defined parts. Wheels are entire parts that need some delicate cleaning. The parts of the wagon that is wood are a very subtle details wood and the can be accented with a steel brush and will be a personal option for the modeler. I think the rays and texture of the wood are indeed very slight, not knowing if, under a layer of paint it will remain. The instructions are only for the wagon and in fact, there is no need for instructions as for the figures. Instructions are CAD drawings and although they do not have part numbers, they are easy to perceive and understand. All the resin parts have no distortions or bubbles and the resin chocks are easy to remove. CONCLUSION: Another set of great quality by Royal Models and a set that will be the center of a small diorama, giving it a touch of comedy and interest. The pieces are of high-quality casting and without any distortion or bubbles. The small PE gives an extra touch of quality and detail that is not at all to be overlooked. I'm already imagining a small road in a North African spot with a Topolino behind Tommy. VERY Highly recommended. With my sincere thanks to Royal Models for this review sample. Pin Up Pilot 1:35 Royal Model (Catalogue n.º 788) Price Tag: 29.90€ (12 resin parts) This is a new concept, at least for me, with a pin-up and a cut front cowl of an aircraft, in this example to P-47. This is a new line from Royal Model. What you see what you get ... in this case it's totally true. The boxart shows off everything that is in the box, including the little base little base. So in total, 12 resin parts and a small decal sheet for the front cowl markings for P-47 "Jacky's Revenge" The decal sheet has a good color registration and pigmentation. Its royal models own production and they look quite fine. I do not know if the work well but there is nothing to tell me otherwise that a good behavior. The P-47 engine Cowl is a single piece with all panels line, small hatch and lots of rivets well made and in several sizes. The pin-up .. Just love pinup. The torso and the head are in a single piece. The face expression is very good with a sexy and bit sexy look. To accent the sexy look, a good and big neckline. Unlike other figures, there is the option of without bra with exposed breaths. The legs and the mini skirt complete the sexy posture. The arms, hat and hands are in separate pastes. All the sculpture is quite well achieved. The anatomy of the legs is perfect with a good turning of the thighs and legs with the knee well defined but without any exaggeration. The chapeau details are very well defined in relief making it easy to paint the same. The overall clothing, coat and mini skirt has the expressive graduation of the assumed posture being essential to get the sexy look that is intended and that Royal Models have managed to achieve. The resin has no distortions or bubbles and the resin chocks are easy to remove. CONCLUSIONS: This Royal Model new line is most welcome to the modeling community. The sexy posture figure is veru well achieved. I think the concept is well achieved and well-defined the pin-up concept: sexy posture, without showing too much body and with an airplane in the background. VERY Highly recommended.
